Review Overview

Soft Moisturizing Creme is marketed as being for the face, body, and hands, and although it can be used on all of those areas, it’s best thought of as a body cream—and not a very good one. Although inexpensive (and we do love a beauty bargain) the formula is a rather uninspired mix whose alcohol content (we’re referring to “alcohol denatured”, not the good-for-skin myristyl alcohol) makes it less moisturizing than it otherwise could be.

This fragranced moisturizer is an OK option for dry skin, but Olay, CeraVe, Aveeno, and Eucerin offer more advanced formulas, and almost all options from those brands avoid the jar packaging Nivea chose. The jar packaging won’t keep the plant-based ingredient in here stable once opened, and it’s also a hygiene issue every time you dip your fingers into this water-based product.

Note: This moisturizer is also sold in a 2.6-ounce tube for around $4. Although that type of packaging is better for the plant-based ingredients this contains, it doesn’t change the fact that the overall formula is average.

Enjoy NIVEA Soft, a surprisingly light textured moisturizing creme that gives your skin a revitalizing refreshing feeling. Enriched with Vitamin E and Jojoba extract, it spreads easily and is quickly absorbed for refreshingly soft and supple skin all day long. The light, fresh scent adds to the invigorating effect.

Brand Overview

Nivea At-A-Glance

Strengths: Budget-friendly; good makeup removers; a gentle scrub; some worthwhile lip balms.

Weaknesses: Several boring formulas; no products to treat breakouts or lighten skin discolorations; problematic toners; disappointing self-tanners; the anti-cellulite products are a joke.

Nivea is a globally known brand owned by Beiersdorf, the same company behind department-store brand La Prairie and drugstore mainstay Eucerin. Among those three brands, Nivea's product selection is the weakest (which isn't saying much, because none of these lines have much of anything to offer skin). For Nivea, uninspired formulas abound, presenting limited options unless you have normal to dry skin, and even those have exceptionally inelegant formulas. The enduring popularity of this line has more to do with advertising and perhaps tradition (it has been around a long time) than with what any researcher would consider state-of-the-art.

In mid-2010 Nivea re-launched most of their Visage (facial care) products on the web site drugstore.com. These products present a few well formulated, inexpensive options that are worth your attention. For more information about Nivea, owned by Beiersdorf, call (800) 227-4703 or visit www.nivea.com.

The best moisturizer for me

I loved this creme on my body it leaves my skin fresh and amazingly soft. I have used many body lotions and oils including other Nivea products but this one works wonders. I then started using it on my face, no breakouts for me. It makes my face softer and smooth. It doesn't leave my face oil free though but a little powder does take care of that. I am a big fan of this creme.

I am 47 but still have oily skin and large pores. This cream is simple and perfect, and at a great price. I use it as a night cream on my face and neck because it is clean and light, no SPF (can't stand SPF smell and heaviness), makes my skin velvety smooth, and smells light, fresh and sexy for my hubby. No grease, no shine, nothing to attract more dirt. It's so gentle I put it on my fair red headed children's sunburned or windburned cheeks and chapped knees and it doesn't sting. Perfection

Make me break out HORRIBLY!

Do NOT use this if you are acne prone or anything. This moisturizer made me break out terribly. Yes, it make my skin soft but honestly, the breakouts KINDA ruin that. A word of warning people!

I don't know why this is a gem for me

I know the ingredients in Nivea Soft are as basic and "old-school" as can be. However, this is one of the few moisturizers that softens and plumps my skin without causing greasiness or breakouts. It feels fresh and clean upon application, and it's deeply soothing on rough hands and knees. I use it as eye, face & neck cream, mostly but it's great for my whole body.I don't buy this because of the cheap price, I buy it because it's a unique consistently effective moisturizer that works great.
