Soft Moisturizing Cream is marketed as being for the face, body, and hands, and although it can be used on all of those areas, it’s best thought of as a body cream—and not a very good one. Although inexpensive (and we do love a beauty bargain) the formula is a rather uninspired mix whose alcohol content (we’re referring to “alcohol denatured”, not the good-for-skin myristyl alcohol) makes it less moisturizing than it otherwise could be.
This fragranced moisturizer is an OK option for dry skin, but Olay, CeraVe, Aveeno, and Eucerin offer more advanced formulas, and almost all options from those brands avoid the jar packaging Nivea chose. The jar packaging won’t keep the plant-based ingredient in here stable once opened, and it’s also a hygiene issue every time you dip your fingers into this water-based product.
Note: This moisturizer is also sold in a 2.6-ounce tube for around $4. Although that type of packaging is better for the plant-based ingredients this contains, it doesn’t change the fact that the overall formula is average.

Nivea is a globally known brand owned by Beiersdorf, the same company behind department-store brand La Prairie and drugstore mainstay Eucerin. Among those three brands, Nivea's product selection is the weakest (which isn't saying much, because none of these lines have much of anything to offer skin). For Nivea, uninspired formulas abound, presenting limited options unless you have normal to dry skin, and even those have exceptionally inelegant formulas. The enduring popularity of this line has more to do with advertising and perhaps tradition (it has been around a long time) than with what any researcher would consider state-of-the-art.
