Review Overview

We'll admit: we're stumped as to why NYX calls this "Extra Creamy Round Lipstick" (the shape of the lipstick itself is the standard angled appearance you find with most lipsticks, so we're not sure where "Round" part comes in) and it isn't exactly extra creamy. But odd name aside, this is a great cream lipstick, and a great deal, too!

This lipstick glides across lips with ease. The color quality is rich, and you don't need to put a lot on to get good, opaque coverage. It's lightweight and feels comfortable the whole time you're wearing it, and has surprisingly good staying power for a cream lipstick. We found it lasts about five hours, depending on whether you eat something.

This lipstick comes in a huge range of colors, with options for just about everyone. Best of all, it's fragrance-free, and at this price, you'll likely want to buy more than one!

Pros:
  • Creamy formula glides on with ease.
  • Rich color quality.
  • Feels lightweight and comfortable.
  • Good staying power for a cream lipstick.
  • Fragrance-free.
Cons:
  • None.

Brand Overview

NYX Cosmetics At-A-Glance

Strengths: NYX provides complete ingredient lists on its website; inexpensive for such quality makeup that rivals department store brands (yes, even M.A.C.); superior blush, gloss, and eyeshadow; several excellent mascaras.

Weaknesses: Many products are available only from the company's website, which means you can't see or test the colors in person (and the company doesn't offer samples); disappointing foundation primers.

This small Los Angeles–based makeup line was founded in 1999 by a woman named Toni Ko. The company's Web site is vague about Ko's background, merely stating that she developed an interest in cosmetics as a teenager (you know, just like about 99.9% of teenage women) and wanted to create her own line of cosmetics. Ko's goal was to produce high-quality products at affordable prices, and that's the draw of NYX (pronounced "nicks") Cosmetics. We are pleased to report that, for the most part, Ko succeeded in her childhood dream.

It is important to note that this line offers a full selection of makeup products, from foundations to lip gloss. However, the only place to access everything NYX Cosmetics has to offer is their Web site. The Ulta chain is the largest distributor of NYX Cosmetics products in the United States, but they carry a smaller selection of NYX products. The good news is that most of the few NYX products Ulta stocks are impressive, especially the powder eyeshadows, which compete evenly with eyeshadows that cost a lot more.

NYX Cosmetics customer service number is (866) 699-1004 or you can visit www.nyxcosmetics.com.

Depends on Color

This really is a good product if you get a shade that is a hit. I read reviews on each shade before I buy to make sure because some shades are much less creamy than others. I have Tea Rose (medium everyday pink), Summer Love (beige nude), Pure Nude (pink nude), and Eros (bright warm red). The texture really varies within these shades (Eros is creamiest while Pure Nude is a bit chalkier), but these are overall a great value for the pigmentation you're getting in these lipsticks.

Smells and TASTES Bad

They must have changed the formula. Not good.

Creaminess can vary with color

I found that the creaminess and wearability of these very greatly by color. The more pigmented reds are drying but they look so opaque and gorgeous. OMGoodness Snow White is a fantastic, old-school glamour red. But it almost hurts after a while to wear even with gloss and a balm underneath. On the otherside Rea is a sheer everyday beige nude that is a pleasure to wear. It feels so healing and smooth to wear. Love it.

Seriously?

Usually we're on the same page Paula, but not with these lipsticks. They are instantly drying on my lips; I definitely have to put gloss on top. I am a fair skinned "Summer", so the two colors I got were Harmonica & Strawberry Milk. They both look ghastly white on my lips, very cheap looking. They remind me of a dime store's little girl's makeup kit (Just like Mommy's!) so they can play dress up with the pale Little Bo Peep pink fake lipstick.

Love these!

Great formula with just the right amount of slip. Non-drying, even slightly hydrating. Comfortable. Satin finish. Perfumey scent is a bit much if you're sensitive, and the only thing that keeps me from making this my everyday brand. I prefer these to the more luxe Black Label lippies from Nyx, which are too creamy for my taste. Tea rose (brightish warm pink) is must try if you're fair. I think "round" in the name refers to the shape of the case. The one for the Black Labels is square.

Better than high-end lipsticks!

Paula's review is spot on again! I bought several of these babies and they not only apply beautifully with just one swipe, they last an amazing amount of time for a creamy lip product. I have dry lips and usually have to reapply lip products often to keep them moist but this one I just put on in the morning and touch up after lunch and I good all day. Plus the color choices are amazing. I've had compliments from MUAs at high end counters on these! I love all NYX lipsticks but these are my faves

Tastes like I'm eating deodorant!

The title of my review says it all. This lipstick tastes like I'm eating Secret brand deodorant.
