Review Overview

The Curve Felt Tip Eye Liner is an excellent long-wearing liquid eyeliner pen that gets its name from the ergonomic shape of its handle. The handle is specially curved to fit in between the thumb and forefinger, which allows for a firmer, more controlled, and less awkward grip as you apply. For people who have difficulty applying liquid eyeliner with a steady hand, the shape of this pen will make the process easier. Although the handle shape is an excellent innovation, the price is a bit on the high side when compared to that of other liquid eyeliners at the drugstore, but in comparison to department-store versions, this is still a bargain.

Aside from its unique shape, this eyeliner stands out for its precise application of intense jet-black color in a smooth, non-feathering line. This product doesn't skip or smudge, and the formula is water-resistant, which helps it to wear all day without traveling. When you're ready to take it off, don't worry about needing a special eye-makeup remover—a regular, water-soluble cleanser will work.

  • Ergonomic shape helps keep hand steady during application.
  • Applies a thin, or thick, line of bold, jet-black color.
  • Long-wearing; doesn't skip, smudge, or travel.
  • Easy application, easy to remove.
  • None.

NYX Cosmetics At-A-Glance

Strengths: NYX provides complete ingredient lists on its website; inexpensive for such quality makeup that rivals department store brands (yes, even M.A.C.); superior blush, gloss, and eyeshadow; several excellent mascaras.

Weaknesses: Many products are available only from the company's website, which means you can't see or test the colors in person (and the company doesn't offer samples); disappointing foundation primers.

This small Los Angeles–based makeup line was founded in 1999 by a woman named Toni Ko. The company's Web site is vague about Ko's background, merely stating that she developed an interest in cosmetics as a teenager (you know, just like about 99.9% of teenage women) and wanted to create her own line of cosmetics. Ko's goal was to produce high-quality products at affordable prices, and that's the draw of NYX (pronounced "nicks") Cosmetics. We are pleased to report that, for the most part, Ko succeeded in her childhood dream.

It is important to note that this line offers a full selection of makeup products, from foundations to lip gloss. However, the only place to access everything NYX Cosmetics has to offer is their Web site. The Ulta chain is the largest distributor of NYX Cosmetics products in the United States, but they carry a smaller selection of NYX products. The good news is that most of the few NYX products Ulta stocks are impressive, especially the powder eyeshadows, which compete evenly with eyeshadows that cost a lot more.

NYX Cosmetics customer service number is (866) 699-1004 or you can visit www.nyxcosmetics.com.

Thank you

I mostly wanted to thank Dana for her great review. She has saved me from trying this, because I like the felt-tip liner idea. I rated it based on what I thought was fair, since this was required, and there was no way to reply to Dana directly, or to "Like" her review, or to say it was helpful. I rated the results "Average", the value "Poor" ($15? Really? For one? Physicians' Formula gives you 3 different colors in one package) and no, I wouldn't recommend this due to lack of colors offered. Not everyone wants only black. I guess I will stick with my Physicians' Formula felt-tip liner for now, even tho it has a con itself, ie, the tip can break off very easily.

I tried this product in Nov 2012 from my local Ulta store. I REALLY tried to like this product but ultimately in my opinion is not a keeper, so I returned it. While the unique plastic curve design of the handle MAY have helped in application, I found the handle to be a bit clunky & not an asset to its design as I had hoped. It surely is not a fool proof ergonomic invention in liquid eyeliner application. Please note the design of the handle is identical to the design of the brand Mally (QVC exclusive) Ultimate Performance Ink Liner which is more expensive. Both products are not waterproof. What I enjoyed about the NYX product was the marker like fine tip design of the pen also identical to Mallys. However that’s where my enjoyment started & ended as the liner formula leaves much to be desired. I have 38 yr old slightly oily & wrinkly eyelids. My eyes don’t water however this eyeliner left little black dots in the whites of my eyes & under my eyes in the laugh line area, & smudged in the outside corners regardless if I lined the waterline. During application if it accidentally found it’s way onto eyelashes it dried into a stiff unattractive finish which required removal before curling & applying mascara. If I did apply in the waterline it burned like the fires of Hades. If you are seeking a better solution try Lorel’s Telescopic Precision Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner which received an Paula’s rating of GOOD.
