Olay has been heavily promoting their collection of eye creams lately, and Olay Eyes Pro-Retinol Treatment for Deep Wrinkles is definitely one of their better formulations, though it doesn't have enough stamina to cross the finish line to our highest rating.

Housed in a small, opaque bottle topped with a pump, the lightweight yet hydrating fragrance-free cream dispenses easily, feeling richer than it really is.

In terms of anti-aging ingredients, Olay's favorite niacinamide is front and center—and for good reason, as research has proven this is a superstar ingredient for skin anywhere on the face. The niacinamide keeps good company with antioxidant vitamin E and a form of retinol that works with the other ingredients to soften and smooth the look of wrinkles (yes, even the deep wrinkles).

A quick comment on the packaging: It's great for keeping this eye cream's light- and air-sensitive ingredients stable during use. Most eye creams—including a few from Olay—are packaged in jars, yet jar packaging can quickly render an eye cream's most exciting ingredients less effective.

Does Olay make a better eye cream? Yes, their Pro X line has an eye cream that contains the same type of retinoid this one includes, plus a broader mix of replenishing and anti-aging ingredients, including peptides. That's largely why Pro-Retinol Treatment for Deep Wrinkles missed our top rating. However, it still ranks among Olay's best (and best packaged) eye creams for all skin types.

Pros:
  • Lightweight hydrating formula still feels creamy.
  • Contains niacinamide, vitamin E, and a form of retinol for younger-looking skin.
  • With ongoing use, cpable of improving the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes.
  • Packaged to keep its light- and air-sensitive ingredients stable during use.
  • Fragrance free.
Cons:
  • Not Olay's most sophisticated eye cream formula—but close.
  • Lacks a mix of proven skin-replenishing ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

Brand Overview

Olay At-A-Glance

Starting decades ago with the now-classic Oil of Olay, this brand now offers an extensive range of skin-care products sold at drugstores and mass-market stores. Today's Olay lineup for those concerned about staving off the effects of aging skin is impressive, comprising their Regenerist, Pro X, and Total Effects lines. All of these (and several other Olay products) contain the B vitamin niacinamide. As you might expect, the claims made for it are inflated, but niacinamide is a very helpful ingredient for all skin types, capable of exerting multiple benefits.

In fact, perhaps the biggest complaint about Olay is that there are a number of repetitive formulas within and between the sub-brands make this line confusing and tricky to shop! Still, there is a lot to like about this drugstore stalwart, with its main drawback being a few formulas containing fragrance or other ingredients that have the potential to cause irritation.
