Review Overview

Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex with SPF 30 has an innovative lightweight cream texture that provides substantial moisture without a thick, heavy feel. Anti-wrinkle protection is assured from stabilized avobenzone, and the formula further boosts skin’s defenses with a proven antioxidant complex. Its satin-smooth finish serves as a perfect base for makeup application. This daytime moisturizer with sunscreen is ideal for those with normal to dry skin that want a luxurious moisturizer that protects skin in multiple ways but never feels like a traditional sunscreen.

One more comment: It is worth mentioning that one of this sunscreen's active ingredients (octinoxate) can be sensitizing for some people when applied around the eyes. This is less of an issue in a fragrance-free product such as this, but it's something to keep in mind in case you notice signs of irritation such as stinging. Most people have no issue with applying octinoxate anywhere on the face.

Paula's Choice Skincare At-A-Glance

Paula's Choice Skincare was established in 1995 when best-selling beauty author and consumer advocate Paula Begoun (known as The Cosmetics Cop) decided to develop her own products. Like most of us, she was fed up with products that overpromised results, cost a lot of money, and failed to deliver—or made matters worse!

As a natural evolution of Paula's personal mission to help consumers find the best products for their skin, the line has grown into an extensive range of skincare and makeup products that are formulated to meet the needs of almost every skin type and skin concern imaginable. From acne to wrinkles, oily skin, rosacea, large pores, eczema, redness, dry skin, and on and on, Paula's Choice offers a solution.

Paula's Choice Skincare stands apart from other cosmetics brands. The formulas contain only ingredients that have substantiated, published research showing they are beneficial and effective—so you get visible results. Stable packaging is another feature of the brand, using innovative, opaque, and air-tight or air-restrictive components that keep antioxidants and other light- and air-sensitive ingredients from breaking down. The line is also 100% fragrance-free, which is best for all skin types, especially for those with sensitive skin or rosacea.

Disclosure: Paula Begoun is the creator of Beautypedia and founder of Paula's Choice Skincare products. Reviewing thousands of skincare and makeup products over the past 30 years, both on this site and in her best-selling books, Paula's mission has always been to help consumers find the best products possible for their skin. The Beautypedia Team proudly and unequivocally maintains this commitment. In addition, The Beautypedia Team reviews all products using the same rating standards and criteria, whether it is a Paula's Choice product or another brand.

Why are all Paula's Choice Skincare products rated highly? The Paula's Choice Skincare Team would not launch a product unless it was worthy of a high rating from The Beautypedia Team. Paula and The Beautypedia Team were researching and reviewing products long before Paula's Choice Skincare ever existed and consumers were constantly requesting a skincare brand that met all of Beautypedia's criteria. As a result, The Paula's Choice Skincare Team was created and uses the same research and criteria to formulate Paula's Choice products as The Beautypedia Team uses to review products.

Strengths: All products are fragrance-free; uniquely formulated AHA and BHA products; effective skin-lightening options; toners that go beyond the norm; all sunscreens provide broad spectrum protection; proven anti-acne products; antioxidant-rich serums and moisturizers; anti-aging products that work as claimed.

Weaknesses: Does not offer a complete collection of makeup; makeup shade range isn’t as extensive for darker skin tones; limited concealer options.

Thank you

This might not be in the best place, but if the company thinks it should be moved, that is fine. 4 stars are not quite appropriate but I wanted to write. It is regarding what Paula or her company wrote about one of the ingredients. Octinoxate. Hopefully some people affected by this ingredient might see it here that had not read it where its published. When I read that I knew not to use this product (Cornea Disease) so she kept me from hurting or wasting money. I appreciate this, thanks.

Stings My Skin

Was hoping my foundation would work smoothly over this moisturizer, but it stings my skin. It does lose its pasty whiteness fairly soon, though. I normally have sensitive eyes, not skin. It also appears to be a synthetic, chemical sunscreen as opposed to a mineral, physical one.

melts into skin - good under makeup

After trying sample sets of Paula's skin care in Resist, Skin Recovery and Moisture Boost, I choose Moisture Boost for my sunscreen. I have very fair, sensitive, dry skin (and maybe the beginnings of rosacea). This moisturizer made my skin happy. It is creamy, but not greasy. I do need to massage it into my skin and wait a few moments to let it absorb before I start my makeup. I had used Olay Complete for years, but I think Paula's is a better sunscreen. I have less age spots now. I wish it was a better bargain though. Compared to Olay Complete, this is a lot more expensive. A small amount does cover my face but I don't want to skimp on sunscreen. I got 3 tubes on sale and am using it everyday. I might try Olay again when I run out and do a comparision with the switch. I am 40+ yo and custom picked my skin system from Paula's choice. So easy to do! For less than twenty bucks, get 3 sample sets. Snip a tiny corner off and try. If you're sensitive like me, I needed to only try one new thing at a time and usually I tried it at night. So it was a process. But so worth it! I use Moisture Boost Cleanser and Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex with SPF30 (moisturizer with sunscreen). My skin does not like any Toners! I choose the Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment (5% Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and alternate it with Skin Perfecting 1% BHA Lotion with about 1-2 days in between. My skin reddened with daily use of either one. I also use a retinol product once a week. I noticed better results with another brand (Netrogena). At night I put on a treatment for sun damage/melasma which is super emolient so I don't use a night cream. I don't use a serum either. The skin around my eyes didn't respond well to Paula's serums - looked drier than ever! So I use a natural oil straight up - almond and olive oil. Skin is happy :-)
