We're always more critical of a product when it claims to be great for super-sensitive skin but isn’t because cometic companies making such claims are disingenuous, or seriously uninformed, about how to deal with this difficult problem. It is particularly rude when the sensitive skin product in question contains irritating ingredients.

Sensitive skin, in particular, requires a product with a relatively short list of ingredients (the more ingredients in a single product, the greater the likelihood that sensitive skin will react), one that contains ingredients to reduce irritation and help ensure a healthy barrier function; it absolutely does not need products that contain any irritants, including fragrance. This moisturizer misses those goals to the detriment of your sensitive skin. It contains a potentially irritating amount of angelica root extract (a plant whose constituents can cause skin to react negatively in sunlight), contains a potentially sensitizing synthetic sunscreen ingredient (though it is not rated as offering any sun protection, so why bother sticking that in here?), and contains grapefruit oil, which, like all citrus oils, is irritating to skin.

To its credit, there are several great ingredients in this moisturizer, but nothing that cannot be found in products from other lines who know how to formulate a moisturizer that helps sensitive skin instead of making matters worse.

One more comment: this is packaged in a jar, which means the air-sensitive, good-for-skin plant extracts and retinol will deteriorate after opening. There's also the hygiene issue of dipping your fingers into a jar-packaged product every day. For water-based formulas like this, daily introduction of bacteria stresses the preservative system and further degrades the beneficial ingredients.

Claims

Formulated to rescue skin from external aggressors like harsh weather and provide comfort after dermatological procedures and surgeries, it pampers and calms seriously stressed skin. Irritation and inflammation are soothed away while peptides stimulate the release of feel-good endorphins. Skin is nurtured, pampered and hydrated to return it to its natural, healthy state.
