Review Overview

Containing five shades of ultra-pigmented powder eyeshadow meant to be used as eyeliner, the possibilities for this palette are almost endless. Applying this smooth-textured powder dry easily imparts a soft smokey effect (though still very pigmented); using it wet with a thin lining brush creates more intense drama that doesn’t flake away. The shades—black, brown, olive, plum, and navy—are rich, vibrant, and leave a soft matte finish. The attractive white compact includes a small, well-made lining brush that could work on the go, but you’ll need a full-size brush to get the most out of this palette.

Pros:
  • Richly pigmented powder liner imparts impressive deep color.
  • Palette contains five well-chosen shades that work on a variety of skin tones and eye colors.
  • Works just as well wet or dry.
  • Smooth-textured powder applies evenly and blends well.
  • Exceptional value!
Cons:
  • None.

Brand Overview

Sonia Kashuk At-A-Glance

Strengths: Affordable and widely available (though exclusive to Target stores); good makeup remover; the makeup is still the star attraction, with impressive options for foundation, powder, blush, lip color, eyeliner and especially makeup brushes.

Weaknesses: The concealers, eye pencil, and brow shapers are a letdown; the makeup palettes may seem convenient, but several of the included products perform poorly.

Perhaps best known for her years of work with supermodel Cindy Crawford, makeup artist Sonia Kashuk's well-chosen selection of makeup has been available exclusively at Target stores since the mid-1990s.

Kashuk's brushes have been a strong point, and now that they've been redone they're better than ever, and still affordable. This is definitely a makeup collection worth visiting, and you'll find some premium options among Kashuk's powder foundation, regular powders, and blush. Several other products, from foundation to lipsticks, are also worthy of attention, though this is not a line that caters to darker skin tones. Ironically, it's the latest cosmetic products that met with the most critical reviews, largely due to poor execution or their gimmicky nature.

For more information about Sonia Kashuk, visit soniakashuk.com or www.target.com.

Note: Sonia Kashuk products are also available at select Bloomingdales locations in New York and California. The company also maintains freestanding stores in New York and New Jersey.

Staying power not great

Tried this vs. Laura Mercier tight line; using Trish McEvoy's Finish Line instead of water. Rubbed both with water (sampled on wrist.) Sonia's rubbed off MUCH easier...so for my allergy eyes that water a lot it's a "no go".

Best Wet or Dry Lined

Wet/dry liner resists smearing. Subtler than gel.

Versatile & Wears Well

I sweat easily and it often runs into my eyes. This powder formula eyeliner holds up better surprisingly than many liquids & gels I've tried. I'm older and like a less harsh line than you get from most liquid or gel eyeliners. With this you can make the lines as thin, thick, smokey or as subtle or dark/bold as you want depending on your brush or whether you put this on dry or with water.

Great buy!

Love this palette. One surprise for me, when I use powder liner I usually have better results using a wet brush to apply it. With this product, I have more luck applying it dry--it flakes less, the color is still rich and it lasts. Love it!
