Retinol Reface is an inexpensive, fragrance-free retinol serum that claims to be non-irritating. That's a nice claim to make, but the truth is that some people will find retinol to be irritating no matter how good the rest of the formula is. Some people's skin simply cannot tolerate retinol, so despite its anti-aging prowess, it's over-promising to claim no one will see peeling, dryness, or redness from this product.

What would've helped reduce the potential for irritation is the inclusion of anti-irritants like those derived from oats, beta-glucan, or curcumin. Unfortunately, such ingredients are not present in Retinol Reface. Also not present is a third type of retinol. The company claims this serum contains three forms of this vitamin A ingredient, but only two are listed: Retinol and hydroxypinacolone retinoate.

In terms of how much of the retinol ingredients you're getting, the amount seems consistent with other retinol products you'll find at the drugstore, and you're also getting small amounts of antioxidant soybean oil and a couple of peptides. Used in higher amounts, the cost for this product would likely need to be higher, but this isn't a bad choice for an inexpensive retinol serum with the requisite silky texture.

Speaking of the texture, Indeed claims this formula is moisturizing, but the core ingredients aren't emollient enough to make someone with dry skin happy, at least if you plan on using this as your sole moisturizer. But like most serums, this has some hydrating capability yet works best when paired with a moisturizer meant for dry skin.

Pros:
  • Fragrance-free.
  • Silky texture provides light hydration.
  • Contains anti-aging superstar ingredient retinol, plus a derivative of this ingredient.
Cons:
  • Aside from the retinol, this contains only a tiny amount of other anti-aging ingredients.
  • There's no way to guarantee this retinol product won't irritate skin or lead to dryness, redness, or peeling; it completely depends on how your skin responds to retinol.

Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A is considered to be one of the most effective ingredients in helping to reduce the appearance of visible signs of aging. retinol reface™ contains not one but 3 forms of retinol to help deliver softer, smoother looking skin, while targeting the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet. Unlike many other retinol products, retinol reface™ is moisturising and non-irritating: no peeling, dryness or redness.

Water/Aqua/Eau, Dimethicone, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Caprylyl Methicone, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Pentylene Glycol, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethyl Isosorbide, 4-T-Butylcyclohexanol, Cetearyl Glucoside, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimenthyl Taurate Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Xanathan Gum, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Polysorbate 80, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Retinol, Carbomer, Polysorbate 20, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Acacia Senegal Gum, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Tocopherol, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol

Promising high performance, innovative products, Canada-based Indeed Laboratories is a small, drugstore-sold line specializing in anti-aging-themed products meant to make skin look better in high-def, which is to say real life. Their best-known product, and not surprisingly the one we're asked about the most, is Nanoblur. This product is essentially a silicone-based wrinkle filler and pore smoother that works, though no better than many other, similar products. All of these types of products work (temporarily, of course) to improve skin texture and fill imperfections to a degree that they're slightly to moderately less noticeable. Where Nanoblur makes its mark is the price point, which many will find enticing.

Although we're not reviewing the complete collection from Indeed at this time, we've looked over their other offerings and were a bit dismayed to see the claims for some being likened to cosmetic corrective procedures like Botox or dermal fillers. Despite what's being claimed, peptides, whether natural or synthetic (and as an aside, you want the synthetic peptides as they're engineered to be much more stable in the product and on skin) are not age-erasing miracle-workers on par with the procedures a cosmetic dermatologists offers. Peptides are intriguing ingredients for skin and they do have benefit, but no one is getting less Botox or canceling their dermal filler appointment because topical peptides did the same thing "without the needle".

This is a line that seeks to avoid fragrance, and that's always to skin's benefit, and their modern-looking packaging will help keep light- and air-sensitive ingredients (like retinol) from degrading. If you keep your expectations realistic and don't expect miracles from these products, you're far more likely to come away satisfied.
