It seems everyone's getting on board the BB and CC cream train these days and StriVectin is no exception. Despite our consternation with Strivectin's questionable skin care claims and formulas in general we're happy to report that their entry into the CC market is a cut above their competition.

Before we get down to the heart of our review, a note about BB and CC creams: Basically, the categories are a lot of marketing hype. Generally, BB creams from U.S. cosmetics brands are similar to a tinted moisturizer, whereas BB creams from Asia are generally thicker and have a high SPF rating. CC creams are more like liquid foundations, but not always. BB and CC creams typically provide sun protection (but not always!), and may or may not include beneficial ingredients like antioxidants or skin-lightening agents. Neither BB nor CC creams are as revolutionary as they are made out to be, and there is certainly no consistency among products from different brands—which can make choosing one very difficult!

That aside, we have to say that StriVectin's Clinical Corrector Anti-Aging Face Tint With Broad Spectrum SPF 30 (Whew! What a name!) is one of the best CC creams we've encountered. Housed in a squeeze tube, the fragrance-free formula has a lightweight, creamy consistency that's a breeze to blend, and it feels elegant.

Clinical Corrector blends seamlessly into the skin for sheer to medium coverage, and dries to a natural-looking dewy (not greasy) finish. Its long-lasting moisturizing feel makes it a good option for normal to dry skin, and it doesn't fade throughout the day.

More bonuses for this CC cream! It provides true broad-spectrum sun protection, and contains some skin-beneficial ingredients for good measure. It's also fragrance-free, which is always a good thing!

Clinical Corrector comes in two shades, both of which are natural-looking on their intended skin tones, although the lightest shade is a bit dark for those with the fairest of skin tones.

Pros:
  • Lightweight, creamy consistency that's easy to blend.
  • Natural-looking dewy finish with sheer to medium coverage.
  • Provides broad-spectrum sun protection.
  • Includes skin-beneficial ingredients and is fragrance-free.
  • Doesn't fade throughout the day.
Cons:
  • The lightest shade might be too dark for those with very fair skin tones.

We had previously written about the original StriVectin-SD, when a reader asked about its ability to repair stretch marks. That was StriVectin's initial claim to fame, though the fame was all self-promoted, as there is not a single independent, peer-reviewed study to prove that StriVectin is an effective option for repairing stretch marks. The studies that do exist about StriVectin's benefits for stretch marks were paid for by Klein-Becker, the company that distributes StriVectin (and is associated with Bremenn Research Labs, which has a growing history of trouble with the FDA and various watchdog advertising organizations).

According to the company's ads, they were surprised to find that not only was StriVectin-SD getting rid of women's stretch marks, but also that somehow their facial wrinkles were going away, too. This discovery lead to the astounding "antiwrinkle breakthrough of the decade." What followed were the now-famous magazine ads that posed the question of whether StriVectin was "Better Than Botox?" Not surprisingly, this ad captured the attention of millions of people concerned with mitigating signs of aging "without painful injections".

Regrettably, no supportive research needs to be available to sell this kind of hyperbole. All it takes is to promise women that a product will get rid of their wrinkles and they will buy it in droves, no matter how many other product lines, infomercials, advertisements, or cosmetics salespeople pledge the exact same thing. StriVectin isn't and was never "better than Botox"!

Of course, now the original, lauded StriVectin-SD product has been replaced by what the company describes as a "super-charged comprehensive skin repair cream for stretch marks, wrinkles, and aging skin". It seems there's no aging skin concern this product cannot address, but as it turns out, the updated formula presents the same drawbacks as the original, although it is arguably a better formulation (just not for stretch marks).

As for the rest of the StriVectin line, it contains proportionately more misses than hits. It isn't the anti-wrinkle answer and in fact some of their products contain the type of irritating ingredients that hurt your skin's ability to look and function in a younger manner.

Best CC cream on the Market
    • StriVecton CLINICAL CORRECTOR ADVANCED ANTI-AGING FACE TINT is the BEST CC cream on the market. If you have a fairly clear complexion this CC cream is remarkable. In my mid 50's, I get constant compliments on my youthful looking skin. StriVecton CC offers light-med. coverage with a "glowing" effect that softens lines, feels like you have nothing on. It is very comforting. Paula's review is spot on and I highly recommend.
