The Illuminating Highlight Pen is meant to mimic Yves Saint Laurent's blockbuster Touche Eclat illuminator in that it's supposed to function as both a lightweight concealer and a highlighter, but it simply does not fit the bill. If you're a fan of YSL's tough-to-beat highlighter, this isn't an adequate replacement, plus it costs more!

The issue is that this click-pen liquid highlighter barely shows up on skin. Although highlighter generally should never be obvious or overly glittery, pigmented, or thick – after all, it's meant simply to enhance areas of skin and not provide full coverage - this one has no effect on skin whatsoever. Even piling on several layers results in just a faint sheen, which uses a lot of product for very little effect - for this much money you should be getting so much more!

This pen comes in several different shades - including light green and lavender - but all are so light that it really doesn't make much of a difference which color you choose. Skip this one altogether and consider one of the options on our list of Best Face & Body Illuminating/Shimmer Products.

Pros:
  • None.
Cons:
  • Barely shows up on skin.
  • Pricey, especially considering this product's quality.

The Illuminating Highlight Pen by Tom Ford contours and enhances your features to create the appearance of symmetry. It's available in a range of shades that catch the light and bring focus to the cheekbones and eyes to create balance and symmetry, and a range of shades that act as skin-priming concealers to diminish flaws and shadows. The highlighter and concealer shades work together to soften and diffuse light for a smooth, undetectable finish.
Brand Overview

Tom Ford is one of the world's hottest fashion designers. Coming to prominence in the mid-1990s, he became Creative Director at Gucci's fashion house, creating his own designer line in 2006 and five years later, followed in the footsteps of other high-fashion houses by launching a line of color cosmetics.

Housed in sleek black packaging with "Tom Ford" stamped in prominent gold-embossed lettering, the makeup certainly looks luxurious, and the pricing is definitely in the haute couture range. There are some great performers among Ford's small but well-edited makeup line, and we’re happy to say most of the products have minimal or no fragrance. There are a few exceptions which are noted in our individual reviews.
