This body wash is inexpensive, yes, but its formula is such a mixed bag that it ends up being more of a beauty detriment than a beauty bargain!
Despite the presence of some gentle plant extracts, this also contains several citrus oils known to be irritating (and not what you'd want to use to wash more, ahem, delicate areas) and its chief cleansing agent, sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate is among the more drying surfactants.
Nothing in this formula can provide "a protective barrier from external elements". If anything, this cleanser's effect on skin's surface will be to impair its barrier function, leading to more problems in the realm of "environmental exposure". Besides, the claim makes it sound as if you can just use this and then skip other protective products like moisturizer or, for exposed skin, sunscreen. Nothing could be further from the truth.
- Contains some soothing plant extracts.
- Inexpensive and generously sized.
- Contains a high amount of fragrant citrus oil known to cause irritation.
- Not suitable for use on delicate parts of the body.
- Main cleansing agent is among the more drying surfactants, and generally best avoided.
- The claim of providing a protective barrier is not supported by the ingredient list.
Our moisturizing cream is a special combination of oils and protiens that will help replenish your skin’s lost moisture and provide a protective barrier from external elements.

California-based specialty grocer chain Trader Joe's isn't the first place you may think of when shopping for skin care, and rightly so: the bulk of this store's inventory is, not surprisingly, foods and beverages. However, they've recently ventured into sun care and offer a couple of worthwhile, inexpensive sunscreens as well as a remarkable facial cleanser. The sunscreens from TJ's we recommend aren't knock-your-socks-off spectacular, but are quite the beauty bargain. If you have a Trader Joe's in your neighborhood, some of the sunscreens are definitely worth a look, especially if you have a family to cover from head to toe during summer months when more of us are outdoors for long periods of time.
