Chamomile extract used primarily as a coloring agent in cosmetics. It can have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (Sources:
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, September 2001, pages 486–487; and
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1996, volume 92, number 3, pages 361–364). However, there is research showing that azulene can cause cellular mutation when exposed to UVA light so it best to not use this in leave-on products (Source:
Mutation Research, September 2003, pages 19–26).
