Plant extract that native to Mexico that can have anti-inflammatory benefits; however, its saponin content (believed to be the active part of the plant) can be irritating to mucous membranes. When consumed orally, yucca may cause gastronintestinal upset. Because saponins behave like steroids and steroids can reduce inflamaion, yucca is believed to have the same benefit, though there's no evidence it works in this manner when applied to skin (Sources: www.naturaldatabase.com; and  Journal of Inflammation, March 2006, pages 3-6). Like most plant extracts, yucca also functions as an antioxidant.
