Who Are Resist Products For?

Since the debut of the Resist anti-aging products, it has been the Paula's Choice collection we're asked about most often. Many ask about how they can incorporate Resist into their current Paula's Choice routine, and others ask who benefits most from using the Resist collection versus other Paula's Choice products (such as the Skin Balancing or Skin Recovery collections.)

The most frequently asked questions include:

  • Is Resist only for mature skin?
  • I am in my 20s. Am I too young to use Resist?
  • How is Resist different from my current Paula's Choice routine (such as Skin Balancing, Moisture Boost, or Skin Recovery)?
  • Who benefits the most from using Resist?

Paula and her team formulated Resist to be the most comprehensive series of anti-aging skin-care products on the market. However, you may be surprised to learn that all Paula's Choice systems, including those other than Resist, whether Skin Balancing, Skin Recovery, Moisture Boost, or Hydralight, also provide anti-aging benefits.

Paula's Choice collections, other than Resist, are first designed to address the needs of specific skin types. For example, the Skin Recovery range provides greater levels of anti-irritants and emollients for dry to very dry skin, while Skin Balancing products provide lighter, oil-controlling formulas for those with oily or combination skin. These products' anti-aging properties are built into their exceptional formulas since they're loaded with antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients. The difference between these systems and Resist is that anti-aging is not their specific focus, although they absolutely do provide your skin with anti-aging ingredients.

OK… So How is Resist Different?

The Resist products are, in most instances, more complex than those of other Paula's Choice systems, as they contain greater levels of anti-aging ingredients in innovative formulas for fighting wrinkles and improving skin tone.

As mentioned above, Resist differs from other Paula's Choice systems because anti-aging is its primary focus and skin type is a secondary consideration. Products in the Resist collection suit a variety of skin types yet also work as an exceptional stand-alone routine. However, you may find that a combination of Resist and other Paula's Choice products specifically designed for your skin type is the best way to go.

Although the Resist line was designed to work for a range of skin types, you may find that, depending on your skin type or preferences, some Resist formulas are too moisturizing or not moisturizing enough. Following are two suggested Resist routines, one for someone with normal to dry Skin and one for someone with combination, oily, and/or breakout-prone skin.

When Should I Start Using Anti-Aging Skin Care?

The term 'anti-aging' has a multitude of meanings in the beauty industry. In many instances, it's used to describe a series of products that you must "graduate to" once you reach a certain age. But, despite those types of claims which you may have heard or read, age is not a skin type! There is no magic number of years when you should begin using anti-aging products, just as there isn't a specific age when you should start eating healthy, nutritious foods. Skin needs anti-aging ingredients throughout your lifetime—you cannot begin too early, and waiting until you see signs of aging doesn't make any sense, either.

Ideally, anti-aging is about giving skin of any age more of what it needs to repair past damage, produce healthy collagen, and function properly so that it looks and feels healthier and acts more like younger skin. The treatments and the types of ingredients that are essential in any effective anti-aging routine include the following:

  • Antioxidants to stimulate collagen and strengthen skin
  • Cell-communicating and skin-repairing ingredients
  • Exfoliants such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and beta hydroxy acid (BHA)
  • Daily, liberal application of a sunscreen rated SPF 15 or greater. UV damage is the number one cause of premature wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and brown spots

Can Skin Get Used to Anti-Aging Ingredients so They Lose Their Effect?

We're asked this question often, and our ready answer is: "No." Skin cannot get used to anti-aging products any more than your body gets used to eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetables—spinach or grapes do not lose their nutritional benefits whether you eat them at age 21 or 71, or every day of your life. The same is true of anti-aging ingredients in skin-care products: The ingredients that are healthy for your skin and work to fight aging do so in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, and the more of those healthy ingredients you put on your skin the better it will look and act!

In addition to giving your skin what it needs to act younger, it is equally important to avoid behaviors and products that make your skin look older. Things like irritating ingredients, getting a tan, smoking, ineffective jar or clear packaging that doesn't keep beneficial ingredients stable, mediocre formulas and not applying sunscreen every day, rain or shine, summer or winter—all of these are a recipe for skin that look and acts much older than it really is.

Now that you understand how Paula's Choice define anti-aging, hopefully it will make sense to you why all Paula's Choice products can be described as anti-aging. We formulate our leave-on products with a variety of effective antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients, and cell-communicating ingredients proven to keep your skin looking and acting younger. Whether you choose to assemble a skin-care routine based entirely on Resist products or choose to customize your routine so it includes Resist and other Paula's Choice products, your skin will be treated to proven ingredients from products that work as claimed. It comes down to this: With Paula's Choice, you're going to have the skin you've always wanted, no matter your age or concern.
