Beautiful formula, Terrible color
This moisurizer was everything I was looking for except the color was very noticeably orange. It was thin, easy to spread and applied evenly and smoothly. It was moisturizing without being thick. It left my skin with just a hint of a healthy glow. Yet all that wonderful formulation was wasted on a color I couldn't wear...because my skin isn't orange! (I am caucasian with light, but not fair, skin.) I received the "Sheer Neutral" shade. I'm hoping another shade works better for me because Barely There Sheer Matte Tint is perfect otherwise. Love the idea, can't get a good color
I really wish this worked for me. I used it a few years ago with mixed results. The "sheer fair" looked good and evened my complexion when I applied it but then looked orange when I went outside. It also sometimes stung a little on my sensitive skin if I was already irritated. I would be happy to try it again if the color was tweaked a little. Want a darker tint!

Great Coverage Best of the Best!
I purchased samples & tried three different shades. Sheer Ivory, Neutral & Beige. I found missing ivory with the neutral or beige was the perfect blend for my skin tone! I wait a few minutes after the first application & then apply a second if I need a little more color! Of course I couldn't wait once I found the right mix & am thrilled with the result! Even two layers looks completely natural & polished. No shiny oily muck even at the end of day.
Once again Paula comes through to save the day!

Never stop selling this!
I have been using this since Paula first came out with it and I will never use another foundation. I'm not sure why people have had trouble with the colors but I think they are perfect. I use the neutral color in the summer and the ivory in the winter and even blend them during the in-between months. The coverage is perfect. I don't want a heavy foundation on my skin (which is looking great thanks to all of Paula's skin care products). I also use this as my SPF product during the day so I don't need another SPF after applying the Resist serum. I order this 2 and 3 at a time and I hope Paula never stops making this wonderful product.

I like to try other foundations and tinted sunscreens from time to time but I always come back to this one! It is by far the BEST out there! I see that other ladies are having difficulty finding the right shade. Please make more shades but also keep the ones you're currently making as they are perfect for me and my family members :-) Thank you for all your wonderful products!

If only...
I bought all the sample for this product to try so I can figure out which shade is best for me. However I found ivory and fair not bright enough to cover my dark baggy circles under my eyes. As I'm a bit darker tone than I wish neutral and beige was way too dark. Too bad Paula has discontinue multiple shades cause they weren't popular. Other than that, this product goes on so soft I love the feel.

Absolutely Outstanding Quality!!!
This gorgeously tinted moisturizer/ foundation is absolutely magnificent for my skin! I am in my forties and have very dry- combination and mild rosacea sensitive skin and this creamy, silky, luxuriously smooth and satisfying foundation is from now on my "holy grail" of foundations. I have been trying out (for several months) virtually every very high-end designer and low-to-medium priced drug-store brand and have been disappointed immediately with the formulations causing an instant red and uncomfortable reaction on my cheeks, or oxidizing effect (turns
orangey), or colour incompatibility. I have light-to-medium fair, partly blotchy maturing skin and have been mis-colour matched by seven makeup artists even at the highest end brands in Toronto! One formula was nearly perfect but the sales rep was so snooty, quite reluctantly unhelpful that my whole experience was ruined! I was referred to PC by two Derms and was given one sample to try at home of the BHA 1% Lotion. My Dr. said to try PC that their products and Cust Serv Reps are the nicest, most knowledgeable in the business of matching up prods and individual skin types to resounding success! (His words exactly.) The lotion sample was soothing, felt luxurious and I felt (not to be too cheeky, "in love" with it.) I was just plainly desperate to try superb prods that were good to my skin, great-feeling and that I could rely on and stop scouting for other skin care lines. I called PC and was struck by how truly caring, warm, patient, and generous the Reps were! I have received several free samples in the mail and I absolutely ADORE my face now after using these for only 10 days!!! I am getting the Resist line, and all serums, and Moisture Boost and the makeup particularly the Sheer Barely There in ivory and fair. Because of my previous huge expenditures of $$$ on other brands and my frustration w them, I am completely experienced when I say that PC has the BEST prices, BEST 5-STAR customer service, BEST product and satisfaction guarantee policy (and attentive, considerate action) on assisting individual
customers and simply THE BEST formulated skin care and beauty products! I want everyone to know about these products and I have recommended to several family members how they should try this line. So far 5

So close to perfect!
This tinted moisturizer has the best texture of any I've ever tried. It goes on smoothly, it blends flawlessly, it's neither too dry nor too moist. I also absolutely love that it contains only mineral sunscreens which means that not only can I use it around my eyes (eliminating the need for an under-eye concealer) but it also doesn't aggravate my rosacea! My only complaint, which seems to be the same complaint of many others, is the color is slightly off. I use Fair and the color is just a little too dark and a little too yellow. It kind of makes me look like I have a fake tan. It's not so noticeable that I will stop using this product (the yellow tint comes out more in certain lighting than others), but I wish Fair was a bit more neutral, or that there were more options for colors. Maybe it's time to bring back those discontinued shades. I already plan to be a Paula's Choice customer for life!

Amazing formula with color issues
I agree with many of the other reviewers here. The formula is to die for, but the colors are off. I've tried all but the lightest color, and I think the problem is simply that there is too much colored pigment for this sheer formula, so when the product dries, the skin is left with a distinct cast of yellow or orange. The colors need to be grayed down somehow. In my opinion, the most beautiful foundation shades are always softly desaturated and do not look like a distinct "color." There are plenty of red, orange, and yellowy aspects of our skin that we are trying to cover up already (blemishes, sallowness, inflammation, etc.), so if we can soften all that while adding an overall twinge of healthy color, that would be ideal. Paula if you get these colors right, I will tell everyone I meet to buy this product, maybe even random people on the street! ;) But seriously, it would be one of the very best products on the market, whereas now it is just better than average. Almost Perfect
I have fair skin, but have worn beige tones in the past, so I ordered beige. It was a perfect match, which leads me to think you might want to go a shade darker than your normal. It went on smoothly & evenly & looked very natura. My only complaint is I've developed some under-eye wrinkles & it seemed to settle into the wrinkles, making them more noticeable. Other than that, it seems like a great product-light, not heavy or oily.

The colors are a joke
I know colors can vary on different computers, but the sheer fair looks absolutely NOTHING like the swatch online. It is certainly not fair, and it is also ORANGE. I am extremely fair, and I used to wear a popular "high end" brand (initials are B.B.) in Alabaster--now that's fair. This doesn't even come close. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. More Shades Please!
I see that the All Bases Covered foundation is getting extra shades and a revamp-I came hoping the same for Barely There Tint, but sadly no :( I have ordered this twice in Sheer Fair and haven't had luck with it-the finish is amazing but it is way too dark for true "fair" skin and once it oxidizes it's slightly orange. I've searched Beautypedia for replacements but nothing comes close to the finish/coverage of this-would love if PC would add a color like Laura Geller's Fair Tinted Moisturizer, PLEASE :D Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review! Too dark and orangey
I really love this product, it provides just enough coverage, it's not greasy like all the other tinted mosturizers that I have tried, and it doesn't cause my skin to break out. Unfortunately I had to return it as the Fair shade was too dark and orangey for my skin. Please make something lighter and less orangey! Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. I need a lighter shade
This product provides a lovely, light matte finish that works for slightly dry skin. It is an elegant formulation, but sadly, the lightest shade is not quite light enough for my very fair skin tone. Simply the Best
This is the best tinted moisturizer I've used! I apply it in the morning right after the mattifying serum and it glides on so smoothly. I was surprised at how much coverage you actually get with this product and how quickly it absorbs. I know a lot of other reviews were not happy with the color, but they must have changed the formula. I have very fair skin and the lightest color was just fine for me. It's all about making sure you blend properly.

This is very nice. It's WAY too dark for me even the Fair. Best
Having super oily skin and rosacea, I find it hard to find a tinted moisturiser or foundation that doesn't slide off my skin or flake off by the end of the day. This is the only product I have found that actually sinks into my skin, not just sits on top of it. The Ivory tint is perfect for my skin tone and it has enough tint to tone down my cheeks, although it won't hide the worst of my broken capillaries, but I can still brush a bit of mineral foundation over the top if I want more colour and I don't look like I have overdone my make-up. Now, if only it came in a slight bigger tube ...

My last review of this was unfair
I wrote a review of this awhile back in which I said that while the formula was great, the color that was the closest match to my skin (sheer neutral), was too yellow for me. (The next lightest color, sheer ivory, was too "white" on me). But with a friend's advice, I learned to blend the two colors together to get a perfect match for my skin that looks great on me and is no longer too yellow on my skin. I would give this product a very high recommendation, but keep in mind that while it is sheer, you still need to get as close a match to your skin for it to look its best.

Awesome (and not pink)!!!
I ordered this in the Neutral and was pleasantly surprised to find the color was a perfect match (which is nearly impossible for me since almost every tinted moisturizer on the market is way too pink/orangy)!!!!! I have rosacea and oily skin, and this product works beautifully without leaving an oil-slick on my face a few hours later. And the coverage is awesome too, very natural yet still covers minor imperfections. I'm so glad to have found an SPF 20 that I can actually wear on my face now that I live in sunny Australia. This was part of my first-ever order from Paula's Choice and I'm excited to try more, thanks Paula!!!

My Skin But Better...
This tinted moisturizer is amazing. I have large pores, redness around my nose, and wrinkles, but somehow Barely There Sheer Matte Tint makes me look presentable! I've been using it for about 5 years and occasionally I will try something else cheaper that I read about in a magazine, but my skin just looks so much better with this product. It looks natural, never mask-like.

great but colors are odd
I like this product a LOT now that I'm 60 & thicker foundations tend to sit in my wrinkles rather than cover them up. I use sheer neutral but find it too dark. My solution has been to mix it 50/50 with a blob of 'All Bases Covered' in wheat. This makes no sense given the color descriptions of each, but there it is. The sheer tint in 'neutral' is far darker than the opaque tint in 'wheat.' It seems like it should be the reverse. Also, as others note, all the PC foundation shades seem yellow based; none has a cool 'blue' undertone --like my skin. Still, my PC mixture works & doesn't settle into my wrinkles--it evens my skin tone & does so with no nasty chemicals. That's good enough for me.

My first tinted moisturizer
Approaching menopause, my skin's not as oily as it was, but I've been looking for years for an SPF daycream that wouldn't encourage the oilslick to form. This product doesn't make oily skin look worse, keeps it gentle with mineral sunscreens, and tones down my uneven skin tone. The lightest shade looks perfect on me, but I still need a colourless product for my neck. The next darkest shade I can wear in the summer for a very subtle bronzer. This product's coverage is sheer, and so matches most people when blended at the jawline. I use my old "office foundation" as a concealer over this product under my inner eye if I have a minute.

You can have it back
I was so excited when I received this as I use most of your skin care products. I applied it and walked out of the bathroom and had to return for something and when I looked into the mirror (to my horror) I was like a tangerine! I am so glad I did because I was able to wipe it off. Unfortunately, I had to go to work with absolutely nothing on my face because I did not have time to apply my usual powder foundation. Not light enough for my fair skin
I use Best Face Forward usually but thought I would try this Paula's product. I had high hopes but the samples that I ordered were all too dark. I ordered the first three colors and nothing looked natural. Snow Whites be warned to try the samples first. It did go on my skin very nicely though and I am disappointed that I can't add this product to my Paula's collection.

Nice formula but no color match for me
This is a very natural looking tinted "moisturizer". (I wouldn't say it is either very moisturizing or oil controlling - it is just sort of somewhere in the middle). I picked Sheer Neutral as the closest matching color for my skin. While it is the proper lightness/darkness for my skintone, it is just too yellow/warm to be believable on me. I wish there were some more truly neutral or slightly cooler colors.

Barely There Sheer Matte Tint spf 20
I ordered a sample of Barely There Sheer Matte Tint in Sheer Fair. I certainly did not look like the color on the computer. It is way too dark for my fair skin. On the computer it looks a lighter and pink. It would work perfect for my skin except for the color. I wish Paula would make a lighter shade. I also look the fact that it has spf 20 but I can't wear it because it is definitely too dark for my very fair skin.

Love the finish!
After trying out a very generous sample I decided to get this full size. I have light skin, with yellow undertones, and Sheer Ivory works well for me. I am amazed by its finish, it is incredibly natural. Leaves skin with a satin-matte finish. I love to use it all over my face and then apply foundation or concealer over the areas where I need more coverage.

My favorite thing
I have been using this for a couple years now and I LOVE it. It evens out my skin tone without looking like I'm wearing lots of makeup. I don't have perfect skin so I use some concealer on the bad spots and put this all over. The only reason I can use this is because my skin clarity is improved so much with Paula's BHA products. It's my new "foundation," and by far my favorite of anything I've ever used. I like too that because it's not a foundation it doesn't have to be an exact color match. I use the sheer fair in the winter and sheer ivory in the summer for a liitle more color. Thanks Paula for a great product.

Figured it out...
I originally rated the Fair shade as too dark. I figured out the issue was that I was trying to layer it like a foundation. This is a *tinted moisturizer*. Once I started treating it more like one and using it to even my skin tone along with a good concealer for redder spots/breakouts, I had great luck. Give it a try!

Disappointed in the color
I have been a Paula's Choice customer for over 10 years and love her products. However, when I received this makeup, I thought there had been a mistake or it had been labeled incorrectly. I ordered both Sheer Fair and Sheer Ivory, just to make sure I got a shade that would work for me and they are BOTH too orange! This product is wonderful in all ways except one--the color is too orange for my fair skin. The ivory is NOT ivory at all, and even the Sheer Fair is orangy on my skin. I so wish Paula would make a lighter shade of this makeup because it has everything else I need: SPF, sheer coverage, great feeling on the skin and does not exaggerate lines, it makes my skin look younger. Needs lighter, cooler shade
This foundation would be perfect if there were a lighter, cooler shade available. My skin is neutral in color, but this foundation still looks a bit too yellow/orange on my skin, and is a touch too dark.

Bad additions to good product
Talc. I hate talc. It irritates sensitive skin, and is not helpful for those of us who don't sweat much. For me,the addition of talk ruined an otherwise fine product. I have combination to slightly oily skin, but I just don't sweat much. So unless I add a bit of water, the product is problematic. I've had the same problem with other cosmetics, and expected more of Paula's choice. Going to a richer product actually makes the problem worse, so I hope someday soon the talc or other absorbent comes out of at least one all skin type foundation. Favorite Product Ever
I'm in my mid 20's and have had intermittent breakouts since my teens, mostly on my chin and hairline. My hose has large dark pores that I've never been able to get rid of. But, for the most part, my skin is pretty fine. Any moisturizer makes me break out. Regular foundation feels slimy by the end of the day. This makes my skin feel so soft,so natural, and gives just a little bit of smoothing coverage. I have fair skin with dark brown hair and wear the Sheer Fair. Please don't ever discontinue this!

Not For Fair Skin
I bought a sample of Sheer Fair and it's too dark and yellow/orange for my fair skin. On my computer the color looked much lighter and more pink. The actual sample looks more like Sheer Ivory. Besides the color it felt great on and it appears it would wear well (I washed my face and used toner three times to get it all off).

Nearly Perfect - Need Lighter Shades
I love this product! Gentle non-chemical sun protection for sensitive skin, non-greasy/non-shiny, brightens up face - makes it look light and dewy, doesn't make me break out. My only complaint is that the lightest shade (sheer fair) is slightly too dark for me and has an orange cast on my face. If a less-orangey lighter shade were available, I would happily rate this with 5 stars!

Almost PERFECT!
Love, love, love this stuff. So creamy, glides on beautifully. Nice coverage, doesn't leave skin oily or too dry. A little goes a long way. Really, it is almost perfect. I just wish it didn't have parabens! SO much has been said about the harmful effects of parabens in the body, I just wish this product didn't have any. Other than that, I LOVE it.

I NEVER thought I would stop using mineral makeup, until NOW. I tried the NEUTRAL shade and found that is goes on smoothly, stays all day, has a NATURAL MATTE appearance, and eliminates/STOPS any oily mid-day shine! GOOD BYE mineral makeup!

Excellent, But Would Like Lighter Shade
Excellent product! It's great on my extremely dry, fair 49 year old skin with rosacea. I put a layer of Paula's Skin Recovery Moisturizer on the dryest areas of my face first. Only reason I didn't give this a "5" is that I'd like to see a lighter shade. But it's so sheer that it's not too much of a problem. Good for casual light makeup "Saturday running errands" type wear.

Does not moisturize at all and feels very drying. The bottle is also a lot smaller than what I thought it would be. I had high hopes for this but was very disappointed. Life Changing!
This product is absolutely "life changing" for me. I have tried every sunscreen under the sun and have discovered in the process that I cannot use anything that has chemical sunscreens in it. That means that I have to use one that has Zinc Oxide,Titanium dioxide, or both as the active ingredients. Well, there is not one anywhere that works well for me since my skin is combination/oily and they seem to be too heavy, leave a whitish cast and just feel "icky". Sunscreens with chemical suncreens in them burn my eyes and make my skin itchy. This makeup is perfect. I apply Paula's Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Serum in the morning after cleansing and then apply this make-up...PERFECT! It gives me complete sun protection and feels awesome on my skin. I can now go throughout my day without feeling like I want to run to the bathroom and wash my face like I always felt when I wore sunscreen. I am blond and blue-eyed so I have to wear sunscreen at all times and this product has absolutely made it enjoyable rather than a chore! I love Paula's products. I have tried some that I do not like, but that attests to how skin type oriented her products are. They are really geared toward individual skin types and you have to be sure to get a good match - She makes it, you just have to listen to your skin and research what skin type each of her products are geared for and you will definitely end up with healthier and more beautiful skin! A Great All -in- One Product
Got a sample of this in Sheer Neutral with excellent results. It blends smoothly even without a sponge. I have light/medium skin with freckles and this shade looks natural even in bright sunlight. It has a light finish, so it doesn't feel like makeup, and just enough color to enhance without looking obvious. The formula is great for combination skin. It moisturizes the dry patches without adding more shine to oily areas. Also does not emphasize fine lines. (I've tried some foundations that actually make lines more noticeable). Tried other tinted moisturizers that didn't do anything for me, but I would definitely try this again. Thanks for making a product I can actually use!

I have been on the hunt for a chemical free tinted moisturizer that evens out my skin tone and finally found it! I love that this is a physical sunscreen. I use the sheer fair and it blends into my skin. It leaves a nice finish that isn't too matte and doesn't leave a shine. Even though it is winter and I'm not outside much before I leave work I apply it again for added protection.

Not what I expected
I am a huge fan of the All Bases Covered foundation and I was looking for something lighter for summer, but I was expecting this product to be more like a tinted moisturizer. Instead, it felt almost drying.
I was also disappointed by the color choices. I have very pale skin and I love the Light Cream in All Bases Covered, but even the lightest Barely There looked noticeably dark on my skin.

My favorite foundation makeup...period. Allows skins own luminescence to peak through so you don't get that funeral parlor look. spf 20 is great! I wear this every single day. Non drying but no pimples either.

I tried this in neutral and it barely covers any flaws and is yellow toned and leaves my face shiny. I really prefer the coverage of the Almay Sun Shade type of foundation but it is too pink. Oh well!

Almost nothing compared to Laura Mercier's TM in regards to texture and the perfect amount of moisture and coverage. Too bad there was no color match. The fairest shade was too pink. Sheer fair is perfect for my warm complexion! While it says matte, it really dries down to a satin-y finish that does not leave my VERY dry skin taut, and actually feels plump. Does not attach to flakes. Reminds me of Laura Mercier... BUT BETTER!!

I love how natural this looks. I wear it on days when I would have gone with no makeup and it looks so nice. The "Fair" color is perfect for my very, very pale skin, which I did not even dare hope for... the color on my monitor looks too dark. But this is great stuff!

I have been using this for about 3 weeks now and my skin has actually gotten better! How is that possible? My skin feels smoother and looks better without makeup. I have rosacea and was a little apprehensive to try a new product, but I am sooo glad I did! My pores aren't as clogged either. Thank you Paula for a great product!

Nice Smooth Finish
I am new to Paula and 51+. I am one month into my Recovery skin care and my skin looks and feels wonderful. Just ordered the sheer tint after trying sample for a week. Goes on smooth, doesn't take alot for coverage, and creates a nice finish on my skin. Doesn't clog around my eyes and looks very natural with my freckled face. I love this product!

Not a fit with my senstive skin
I purchased a sample of the sheer (so glad samples are available!). The texture and finish were very nice. However, several hours into the day, I had my typical reaction - red face with burning/stinging. I also purchased a sample of the foundation and will give that a try next and hope it works out better.

The good things are; this was non irritating and didn't feel like it was suffocating my skin. The bad things are; this product is not matte, I always had a sheen that I needed to blot away and it is expensive for the amount of product.

Still not fair enough
The best sheer tint with the most reasonable price on the market... BUT. Still too dark! I would love it if you could release a fairer colour, I am very fair and have trouble with this issue often. Both of the lightest foundations are spot on, this one just needs a fairer shade.

fantastic product for me
The sheer ivory looks amazing on my fair skin. I have a lot of red undertone; this shade beautifully evens out my skin tone. It looks completely natural, even when I apply quite generously, and the coverage lasts all day. I know some people found the shades to be too dark for their skin (this was not at all the case for me - even the sheer neutral looks good), so I would recommend getting a few samples and testing them out.

Wonderful product
Although it just comes in 4 shades, I find my perfect match. I like the matte finish while it adequately moisturizes my oily skin with no trace of oiliness. Any normal cleanser can wash it away - good. I use this alone in summer whereas it is clearly not moisturizing enough in windy chicago winter.

not for pale skin
Warning: this stuff runs DARK. I thought the "Sheer Fair" color would be akin to Best Face Forward's "Best Bisque," but this is significantly darker. I've always thought it was bizarre that Paula's Choice doesn't offer makeup options for pale skin. This seems incongruous with the whole "safe sun" message. Oh well, I understand that Paula's real passion is skin care, so the cosmetics selection will remain limited.

While I love the makeup and the shade I use, the packaging if very frustrating. Being in a tube, so to speak, once the content gets low, one has to squeeze it harder, and it often comes out then in a huge blob. It cannot be returned to the tube, so much is wasted. I wish this could be in regular makeup container, that one could bring the content to the top by gently shaking it, unscrew the lid and just put the fingertip to the top. I don't know if that is very clear)

great moisuriser with high protection
I love this. I am 37 and need some tint on my skin but also have melasma and oily skin and this works like a charm. It is easily reapplied if you are a person that prefers light make up to layers of foundation and powder. Great product :)

could it be a bit more moisturizing?
I quite like this product. I have fair skin, and I tried the Sheer Beige, which is meant to be the darkest shade. I was worried when I saw the actual tint, it seemed to be too orange and dark. But it blends perfectly with my skin, and at least it gives a bit of colour for my face (otherwise I am too pale). Next time I am going to try the Neutral shade, as in a sample size, that was my perfect match. Anyway my only concern about this product, that I have very sensitive and dry skin and by the end of the day, it seems to be a bit uncomfortable to wear this product. It dries my skin a tiny bit. I use the Skin recovery lotion with spf15 under. Should i use the skin recovery moisturizer?

I HATE the feel of foundation and this stuff is the BEST!!! I live in sticky and humid Houston and this stuff works GREAT in both summer and winter!! It's not oily at all and leaves a very natural "no-makup" look on my skin. I have tried all the tinted moisturizers out there from Laura Merier to La Mer and they don't even begin to compare to your! PLEASE don't EVER discontinue this product!!

Just What I've Been Looking For
I have a very hard time finding a foundation that works well. I've been blessed (NOT) with deeply creased wrinkles thanks to heredity and not taking heed to that in my younger years. So I have a hard time finding a foundation that doesn't settle into my creases and make my face look horrid. I've been using Sheer Miracle mineral powder foundation for several years and it's worked perfectly but as my 40-something skin dries more and more I have felt the need to find something moisturizing. This is the first tinted moisturizer/liquid foundation I've tried in over ten years and I really hit the jackpot. It looks great, helps hydrate my skin (with other products) and seems to last well all day. I commute to work by bicycle and apply my makeup before leaving the house in the morning. I'm happy to say that this foundation holds up for both my too and from rides and throughout the work day. Kudos!

Love this sheer matte tint
I would call this a tinted moisturizer, I have tryed many other. This by far is the best for summer. I son't like a heavi foundation look or really any foundation look. This looks like your natural skin only better, plus it's got the sun protection that you need. I'll use this summer and winter, maybe alittle powder on the t-zone. Thanks so much, this rocks.

Best foundation, period.
I have rosacea, so I've tried so many foundations and tinted moisturizers in my pursuit of flawless looking skin- and this one blows all of them out of the water. It is buildable, natural-looking, and all-inclusive (no need for sunscreen underneath!). When I wear this, people can't tell I'm wearing makeup - I just get compliments on how great my skin looks. I would say "matte tint" is a misnomer; it definitely gives your skin a nice satiny sheen. I dust some mattifying powder over it and my skin looks truly flawless. Very nice
I am a redhead, but my skin does not have the pinkish undertones that most redheads do. I bought the sheer fair color and I have to say it's an absolutely perfect match for my skintone. If you are a fair colored girl with more of a yellowish undertone, this will work for you. I have tried many tinted moisturizers and most are too dark and it's very obvious. This blends right, it's thick enough I don't need a separate moisturizer and it blends well and wears well. Nice product!

TRIED and TRUE
I've been using this "tinted sunscreen" for YEARS now. A few years back, I had laser work done on my face and it took a lot of the little bumps and spots off. I didn't want to drown my face in foundation, since I'd spent a fortune, but I still did not have magazine-cover perfect skin. This was and is the IDEAL product for sunscreen and that just- a-hint of coverage. Most of all, I love that PC is not tested on animals.

Sheer with full protection

My favorite product!
This was the best foundation/tinted moisturizer I ever used! My skin is sensitive to most type of sunscreen, but this one didn't cause any irritation. Also, many foundations cause my skin to flake. This one is moisturizing, yet it has a matte finish. I don't know how that works but it looks wonderful! I tried both "sheer ivory" and "sheer neutral", and actually both work - I just look a bit more tanned with the neutral.

Beautiful Finish
This tinted moisturizer has a very nice finish and covers a little more than others I have tried. Application is smooth, but if your skin is on the drier side, you will probably want another moisturizer under it. My only complaint is that the lightest color, Sheer Fair, is slightly dark for my skin and makes me look a touch orange/tan. Wish there was one shade lighter, but I think it will work in the summer when my skin gets a touch darker.

Great wearability, but too dark
I loved the texture and wearability of this foundation, and unlike the others, it's a higher SPF 20. Unfortunately, even the sheer fair is a little too dark for me, as I have very fair skin. It's funny, the All Bases Covered in nude (not even the lightest color in that formula) is the exact color for me, but it's too moist in more humid weather. And the Best Face Forward would definitely be too dry. Yet there's one foundation I truly love here and your company won't add more shades? After all that talk of matching your foundation to your skin color exactly?! Sigh!

Good Stuff
When I initially applied this, I was very concerned about the EXTREMELY sheer coverage. However, as the product settled, I noticed it did an exceptional job of neutralizing redness and evening skin tone, and also did not settle into pores or fine lines. On a good skin day, I would have no qualms about going out with just this product on. Another thing I love about this, as well as all of Paula's foundations is that they actually improve the redness in my skin and I find my skin "reacts" less to environmental irritants.
That said, those with more than minor redness, breakouts, or skin discolorations will find this doesn't provide nearly enough coverage.

Good stuff
I got a sample of this in sheer fair. It is very light coverage so it's great for the summer time or if you don't have lots of imperfections to cover. I do have lots of imperfections to cover so I think I will go with the all bases covered foundation, which I also got a sample of and I like the amount of coverage better, but all three of the foundations paula sells are fantastic, I just can't decide on the right shade!

Great, but why so dark?
I LOVE this formula. I continued to buy several tubes though the lightest shade is too dark for me (and it was obvious). It's even too dark for my sister, who no one would classify as pale. I just wish this came in a lighter shade! "Sheer fair" and "sheer ivory" cannot possibly honestly describe those colors. For comparison's sake, I wear All Bases Covered in Nude when I want foundation, and that's not even the lightest shade offered (it matches my skintone perfectly, so points to Paula for that)!

This is easily the best SPF on the market. Chemical sunscreens concern me but with rosacea prone skin I know I need protection. This sunscreen is elegant, all mineral sunscreens and is sheer, no white cast! Would love in a much larger size!

I've been using this sheer matte tint for years! I'm a huge fan of Paula's products because all of them are fragrance free and made to be good for my sensitive skin. Evens out my skin tone beautifully!
I am Asian-American and have eczema on my face. I was previously using L'Oreal's True Match Liquid Foundation in natural beige, because it matched my golden/yellow undertones perfectly. Unfortunately however, my skin is drying up as I get older, and L'Oreal's True Match Foundation was exacerbating my eczema. Coupled with the winter climate and dry air, I knew I had to switch foundations, fast. I tried Paula's Barely There Sheer Matte Tint in Sheer Ivory, and was very pleased to discover that although I have an oily T-zone, this foundation doesn't make my face look greasy. It also has not created problems for my eczema. Last but not least, it blends in beautifully with my golden/yellow undertones, evening out my skin tone and smoothing out redness.

I cannot say enough good things about this Barely There. I used to alternate 4, 5, or more different bottles/formulations of foundation, in order to get a the right color, texture, natural-look, sunscreen, etc. This works all the time, for all occasions. Sheer Beige just melts into my skin, making it look flawless, plumped, and radiant. Barely There is light, but somehow matte, and the sunscreen is gentle. On me this has excellent coverage, too. It truly evens out my skin tone, and looks so healthy!

Best Foundation/Moisturizer/Sunscreen
Aside from being a sunscreen with a high protection factor...and a moisturizer...the foundation factor is Beautiful! It goes on beautifully. I have oily/combination skin..and now I don't have to use an individual suncreen and moisturizer and foundation...this has it all and looks so pretty. The Very Best!!
I have very sensitive skin and unfortunately I am unable to use chemical sunscreens. It's incredibly difficult finding products that contain zinc and titanium as the only active ingredients. So imagine my surprise to find this little gem!! It wears beautifully, it's matte, it imparts a bit of color but your skin still shines through and it has 5% of both zinc and titanium. If this is applied liberally enough to get the full SPF rating, it looks heavy and masklike. If applied very sparingly, it looks sheer - but then you don't get the sun protection.

No Shade Suitable For Fair Skin
Great formulation...but if you can't find a shade to match, the formulation matters nil. Why the lack of shades? Please add more shades, particularly one for truly fair skin and not just the token "Fair" shade every other cosmetics line has (and doesn't work either) Customer Care Response: When Paula originally introduced her makeup line she offered Sheer Ivory as the original lightest shade, then Sheer Fair was introduced to meet the needs of those who found the Ivory shade too dark or too yellow. Great foundation
I love the Sheer Matte Tint. I can't stand regular foundations because they always feel too heavy or don't blend right on my combo skin. This tint is perfect: goes on quickly and easily and provides sun protection. The packaging is great, also, because I travel frequently for work and don't want to have to worry about my makeup leaking all over.

Love it but need more colors
Love the way this goes on, very natural looking and makes my skin glow but not shiny. Please, please add more colors. The neutral is a little too light for me but the beige is a little too dark. I mix the two for a custom shade but would prefer to just buy one shade. Otherwise, it's the best!!

Not for fair skin
While I liked the product, like so many foundations it disappears within hours on my oily skin esp in summer in the south. Also, I agree this foundation (and all PC foundations) doesn't/don't come in shades for very fair skin. I contacted the company about the lack of colors for very fair skins and why all neutrals and none with pink tints. I got an reply that PC colors are ONLY in neutral shades and there are NO plans to include more shades for very fair skins. Well after that response,I finally gave up and found a Lancome shade that is a very good match for my very fair skin.

Wonderful, but needs more shades
This is a fantastic tinted moisturizer. Suits my skin perfectly, I don't even use liquid foundation anymore.
Unfortunately event the lightest shade is too dark for me. The undertone is perfect, but it's just too dark (and I'm not even considering myself to be pale). Please, add at least one more fair shade! I give this product a 2 simply because it needs to have a wider array of colors available! The Sheer Fair is too dark and a little too peachy for my super fair, yellow-undertone skin. Another Winner
I have always avoided mineral sunscreens because of the white cast and occlusive feeling on my skin, but I decided to order the Barely There Matte Tint SPF20 in the hope it would work for me. In the meantime I went and got a few samples of Clinique City Block SPF25 (recommended on Beautypedia) to tide me over until my order arrived.
Well, the City Block was as I expected - heavy, and not providing an optimal base for concealer. The Barely There Matte Tint SPF20 on the other hand is light, matte and natural looking. My concealer went on beautifully. This is a great option for those (especially us guys) who don't want to wear foundation. I was lucky to pick the ideal shade for me as well (an option you don't have with Clinique.)

a big mistake
I have very sensitive combination skin and 5 minutes after I put this product on my face it turned totally red! As soon as I washed it off the red went away. Go figure!

More shades wanted!
I would love this tint, but even the Sheer Fair is patently too deep for my fair skin. It's so tricky to find an affordable sheer tint with SPF and here I've found the best, but there isn't a shade I can use.

Disappointed
I was really looking forward to trying this foundation. I am a fan of Paula's no frills and reliance on data, instead of traditional cosmetics company smoke and mirrors to sell their wares. This foundation did not wear well at all. It migrated and discolored quickly. I have pretty good skin. I have few if any wrinkles, so I don't need a lot of coverage. I went back to the inexpensive Loreal True Match I purchased. Its covers better and does not settle into pores, the way Paula's foundation did. I wish I had something positive to say.

As with most of Paula's products, I am again impressed with another fantastic product. I tend to stay away from foundations because of the way they feel on my skin. I just wanted to let you know that never in my life have I found a foundation that actually matched my skin color and was easy to apply. I'm fair skinned and sort of yellowy, but pinkish where I breakout. I have spent a fortune on all different brands of makeup. I love this foundation! I tested this foundation against a high-end foundation: On one side of my face I wore the expensive foundation, and on the other I wore Paula's Choice. (I did this for a few days.) The Paula's Choice Sheer Matte Tint "tied" with the expensive foundation on several factors (blendability, coverage, color, finish, SPF). Price was not a deciding factor in my test as I am willing to spend big money on the right products. The fact that Paula's is only $13 is the cherry on the sundae!

How should this product be used?
Apply to clean skin using a makeup sponge or clean fingertips. Dab tint onto the central part of your face and blend toward the jawline using smooth, even strokes. If needed, apply a light layer of moisturizer under the tint. If you have dry skin, moisturizer can help make application easier and coverage more even.
It is recommended that you apply the tint liberally to achieve the rated level of sun protection. An application that's too thin will not sufficiently protect the skin from the sun. If you plan on applying a sheer layer of the tint, use our Healthy Finish Pressed Powder with SPF 15 to set it.
This tint can be applied to the eyelids and then set with powder. This step will ensure an even application of eyeshadows and eyeliner.
Barely There Sheer Matte Tint can be layered for additional color and a bit more coverage. Since this is a tint, the level of coverage increases only subtly as you add layers (not substantially as it would with a foundation).

Do I need to use a separate moisturizer with Barely There Sheer Matte Tint?
Unless you have dry skin or dry areas, Barely There Sheer Matte Tint can be used comfortably on its own. It is designed for all skin types, but someone with dry to very dry skin may prefer to apply a moisturizer first for additional hydration. Those with normal to oily skin will likely appreciate the light feel and natural matte finish Barely There Sheer Matte Tint provides, though for this skin type a lightweight moisturizer can be applied to dry areas if needed.
Is Barely There Sheer Matte Tint closer to a tinted moisturizer or a foundation?
It is closer to a tinted moisturizer, but offers more coverage than most tinted moisturizers do. It does not provide coverage on par with liquid foundations, including All Bases Covered Foundation SPF 15 (for normal to dry skin) and Best Face Forward Foundation SPF 15 (normal to oily/combination skin).
Is Barely There Sheer Matte Tint safe for breakout-prone skin?
It is a good choice due to the fact that it isn't heavy, thick or greasy. However, we cannot guarantee it won' cause or worsen blemishes. For some people, this product's active ingredients (the mineral sunscreens titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) can cause clogged pores. The only way to know if any product will cause or worsen breakouts is to try it and see how your skin responds.
