Great for preventing blackheads caused by sunscree
My skin was pretty nice, but over the past 2-3 years in my mid-20s, I developed blackheads and periodic breakouts, partially caused by hormones, and partially from sunscreen.
Since switching to my new routine including this exfoliant, I had one zit in the first few weeks, and none in over a month. I was waiting for that milestone to post my review.
My morning routine is just Elta MD UV Clear sunscreen.
In the evening, I use Paula's Clear cleanser, this exfoliant, and the RESIST moisturizer with retinol. It is Paula's only moisturizer without silicones, which break me out.
Sometimes my cheeks are a bit dry, but they are fine once I put my sunscreen on in the morning, and I haven't been this happy with how my skin looks in ages!

Delivers on its promises!
This is my first review for PC, but I thought my experience might help others out there who've struggled with clogged pores and rough skin. For me, it's been my entire adult life. I started using Paula's Choice 2% beta hydroxy acid liquid (now repackaged and renamed?) about a year ago. Didn't take long to notice the smoothing, soothing, exfoliating and pore unclogging benefits. But I never liked the slightly oily feeling it left on my skin, especially after applying my foundation, then really awful on a hot humid summer day. But I stuck with it because of its benefits. Then I was exploring the comments for it a while back when I needed to reorder. Others mentioned the "oily" feeling. Customer support suggested they try the PC product CLEAR Targeted Acne Relief Toner, 2% Salicylic Acid. I ordered it and am so happy with the results! No oily feeling, it doesn't add yet another layer do goo to my morning routine and it's really making a difference. I have some very old chroniclally clogged pores that are actually flattening out! To finish out my routine, I also use a 10% AHA cream (not PC) and a few of her RESIST products to round out my routine (her cleanser, retinal & toner). Also, a monthly facial (with extractions) keeps my clogged pores in check. If I'd had BHA and AHA products in my 20s, I'm convinced that I wouldn't have the acne scars I have. Sorry this is so long!

Not for me :(
I'll start by saying I love the other products - enough so that I just bought my mother the whole Resist line. However, this toner didn't work for me. I've tried using it for quite a while now. This is the 'problem' product in my regimen. My mildly breakout-prone chin is now worse than when I was a teenager. I even have some new scars. Toner works great! Bottle doesn't.
Really like Paula's products and have recommended the line to many people.
For convenience I had my order shipped to my vacation city (thanks Paula!) with everything arriving on time, in perfect condition. However, after flying home, I too, had lost over half the bottle. I thought maybe I hadn't put the top on well enough but after seeing other reviews realized it is the packaging.
I purchased travel bottles and since it is a liquid put it in a spray bottle which I continue to use even at home. I like how I have more control over the amount dispensed. I began using the CLEAR system's regular strength toner and acne treatment about a month ago and I have seen significant improvement in my skin. I never do reviews on products but I felt strongly that this was worth it. It helped me and I hope it can help someone else. I believe that using a gentle cleanser (like the one offered in the CLEAR system) coupled with the toner and treatment has made all the difference in my skin. Before using these products I would get moderate breakouts but mostly cystic acne. I have not had a breakout since using these products. It's amazing. Thank you Paula!!

Disappointing
I did not find this as effective as other BHA's. After using it for a couple of weeks there was little difference in my skin. I'm breaking out badly!
I recently started this product after 4 months of Retin A use. Retin A dried out my skin terribly and made it very fragile. It also didn't help with my major clogged pores on my cheeks. I stopped RA for a few weeks and my skin started to improve, but I still thought I could use some exfoliation. After only 2 days of using this product, I broke out with 5 very inflamed pimples. I haven't had inflamed acne in a while. Those pimples subsided and have been replaced with tiny red pimples covering my face, even on areas where I don't typically break out. I also have tons of flesh colored bumps trying to surface. I think my skin doesn't agree with this product. I do appreciate the non-sticky liquid and lack of burning or stinging, but I still think this irritates my skin. The pimples I have are very red around the blemish. Great product
This is better than Paula's normal 2% BHA liquid because it really is as light as water on the skin, wheras the regular formula is sticky. I have sensitive skin and this hasn't caused any irritation, and works great on the body as well as the face. I only wish they would change the packaging to include a spray pump - I pour it into an old BHA bottle to spray it on.

Result not as expected
I have been battling with my acne for years, thus decided to give this product a try. After using for around two weeks, I wasn't impressed. I still have those stubborn blackheads on. Maybe I should have used something stronger? Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. Blackheads are very stubborn and for some never completely go away. You can help them be less prevalent by using a daily 2% BHA as well as using the Skin Balancing Pore Reducing Toner beforehand to help normalize the shape of the pores. It is also important to use light-weight products as rich lotions and cream can lead to clogged pores. Having them extracted by a trained aesthetician will also help them to be less apparent. We suggest using the extra strength product twice per day and for a longer period of time in order to sew how your pores will ultimately respond. Okay, but not as awesome as I expected. It has loosened a few blackheads and some stubborn white bumps, but doesn't seem to be strong enough to clear them completely. Maybe my skin responds better to a lower pH, because I'm getting about the same results as when I used Clinique's mild clarifying lotion. I do like the texture of this. Wonderful product, packaging needs a little work
I love this toner! Under any of the several moisturizers I use, it helps keep my blackhead prone skin clear. The bottle is fine for use at home, and convenient, but does not travel by air well. I lost half a bottle in my luggage to leakage because the fliptop doesn't stay sealed all the way when the air pressure changes in the air. Please bring back the screw-on lid! Drying but good
I must say this toner is effective. If you use this whole acne system it works well, but I substitute the face wash with the skin balancing cleanser instead. This is just very drying, you will def only want to use this once a day first. However it works well to combat acne.

Not For Me

Caused further breakouts
Ordered this product because I get occasional breakouts and I was using the skin balancing toner before (which I love) but thought maybe I needed to treat my acne more aggresively to eliminate it. Been using this product for about 3 weeks and have been experiencing worse breakouts and drier skin! I don't think it is compatible with my skin type? Excellent exfoliator
This is an excellent exfoliator but unfortunately causes me to break out. I also tried the Resist AHA which also caused acne. The products aree definately worth trying. They do improve the tone and texture of skin......just did not work for me.

So much better than other toners...
I really love this toner! I have sensitive, fair, cystic acne, ruddy, sun spotted skin. I am 34 and also starting to get wrinkles. It is very hard to find a product line that addresses both issues. I love Paula's choice products they work together beautifully, without making my acne worse. This toner is so soothing and refreshing. It's my favorite part of my skin care routine. It never stings or makes my skin dry or scaly. The extra strength toner was a bit too much for my sensitive skin, but this one was perfect. I am a forever fan!

Excellent product, poor packaging
I am very pleased with the results from this product. My skin tone, fine lines, and red marks from acne have greatly improved. The only complaint I have is the products packaging. While traveling the bottle leaked which I just purchased a few weeks ago and is almost empty now. Customer Care Response: We are happy to hear the product works well for you. We have looked into the situation and can tell you that since this products texture is so slippery it can leak when not closed tightly. When the cap is taken off you want to close it very tightly in order to prevent any leaking. Not good enough
Used this product for almost a year thinking it would work after a long period of time but my acne is still the same. Definitely won't be using the CLEAR system again. Nice toner
This did not cause my skin to breakout like many of Paula's other toners. It left my skin looking quite shiny, though face powder can cover this. It feels like a lightweight moisturizer. Very nice overall.

Acne free!
At 41 y.o., I'd come to believe that I'd just have to live with my adult acne forever, and settle for periodic reprieves when it wasn't in full blown flare-up. The first morning after using this toner, I saw an improvement. Two weeks in, and my skin is acne free. Not just a little better - it's completely free and clear, with no sign of anything lurking beneath the surface, waiting to rear its ugly head. Whiteheads, red marks, inflammation - gone. GONE. I've been using the toner w/ some of the Resist products, and once my skin got used to the Retinol in those, it's been a match made in heaven. I can't get over the change in clarity, tone and texture... my skin hasn't been this clear since my early teens. I'm amazed, relieved and thrilled.

LOVE!!! But leaks
Love this product!! It's amazing how much my face has cleared up from this. I have been using this for over a year, and it's the best out there. I tried many different products, but nothing makes my skin more clear and more glowing than this!! However, this leaks big time if not held straight up. Beware of putting it in a suitcase. A MUST-HAVE PRODUCT
I have used the regular Paula's BHA lotion before. Though it worked on my acne, it made my face oily, sticky, and burning. I love it but also hate it, and finally stopped using it. When I found out Paula's have new BHA toner. I decide to give it another try. Now I must say I can't live without it!! My skin is sensitive but I feel completely fine when I use the toner. Now I'm using the second bottle. If you have severe acne, I will say use it two times a day. When it becomes better, switch to use it only during night time. However, you may need extra moisturizer because this product does make your face super dry during winter time!

my daughter loves this
my daughter has started with getting pimples already at age 10. I bought this for her thinking it would be an easy step to add to her bedtime routine. I was right, and her skin cleared up and I haven't seen another pimple in months! The only problem, is when we travelled to the cottage this summer, half the product emptied out into her suitcase. If you could look into making a leak-proof bottle, that would be great!

Best BHA I have tried
I am re-ordering this for the umpteenth time because it makes my skin fabulous, and I have very problematic skin. I constantly receive compliments on how nice my skin is. I keep looking over my shoulder to see if they're talking to someone behind me. I am 53, with mostly normal skin, have little wrinkling but have facial hair that causes acne due to shaving & tweezing, and I get some cystic acne. In addition I have rosacea, brown mottling along the jaw line, and huge pores on my nose. Oh how I wish for a laser fairy godmother!
I have hard water and after showering or washing my face it feels dry and tight. Paula's Skin Recovery Cleanser helps temper this feeling. The CLEAR Regular Strength Toner seem to balance the skin pH, and leave my face perfect for my liquid foundation. I usually don't even need moisturizer, except around my eyes. I credit this toner, and the liquid foundation I use for fooling everyone into believing I have great skin.
I have had some problems with the containers leaking during shipping. And, I don't like the squirt bottle as it is too messy and wastes a lot. I bypass this problem by just unscrewing the top and placing a cotton pad over the opening and then tilting the container. I either do 1 or 2 "tilts" depending on if I'm just using the toner on my face, or including the neck, and upper chest area. One bottle lasts me 3-4 months, using once or twice a day (usually once).
I have tried Paula's other BHA products and they weren't right for me for various reasons.

Good product, horrible packaging
This is a great product to use on my blackheads on my nose daily. I use it on other areas of my face a few times a week. I've tried the lotion formula but that doesn't work for me. The WORST part about this product is the PACKAGING. it constantly leaks and ruins other things in my cabinet. I miss when Paula did not feel she needed to keep putting out "skin care lines" but I guess she too needs to compete with Nordstrom and CVS type stores. Anyway the old white packaging was much better. Or maybe something with a pump. Hope these ideas help. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. does NOT replace a bha exfoliant
I was hoping to save a step (and money) by using this as a toner and exfoliant in one. This is fine as a toner but NOT as a bha exfoliant. The tiny white bumps on my nose are back until I buy another stand alone bha exfoliant. Customer Care Response: We are sorry to hear your skin did not respond well to this product. This CLEAR Toner is a BHA exfoliant simply in different packaging and name. It is the exact same formula as the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid. Your skin may just have not responded well to the formula but as long as one of the other BHA's works well for you, you may certainly continue to use a BHA. We do suggest using an additional toner such as the Skin Balancing Toner to add potent anti-aging and soothing ingredients to the skin. It also has ingredients that help the shape of the pores so when used along with the CLEAR Toner or any BHA will help very much with preventing clogged pores and blemishes. Too strong for me
While I did get moderate results from this toner, I found the percentage of Salicylic Acid to be too strong for my sensitive skin. It left my skin quite dry and I continued to experience breakouts. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. We suggest the BHA in a lotion form to see how your skin responds to it applied twice per day. The lotion form will not be as light but still help to prevent acne and clogged pores. We suggest using the product for at least a few months to give it a real good shot at providing results and see how your skin responds. Love It!
This is the best BHA toner in the world! Goes on like water, and absorbs without leaving any tacky feeling.
I use it morning/night. Helps with the blackheads and acne. Does NOT complete rid acne, but helps lessen them.
Would love a stronger version on this.

Pros and Cons...
I love how this toner feels! I have oily skin (usually), and this toner feels lighter than water, if that makes sense, and I much prefer it to Paula's BHA gel and the other BHA liquid, both of with either felt sticky or tacky to me.
Unfortunately, the bottle DOES leak... I suspect it has to do with the super thin surface tension of the toner, because when I put some in a mini travel spray bottle, it leaked a little out of that, too. A little more research needs to be done on the packaging to prevent this. Also, I seem to be breaking out a little in front of my ears, but I'll give it a few more weeks to see... timing suggests these may be hormone-related pimples. I'm crossing my fingers! I started using this two weeks ago, but rather than making my acne better, it seems that it only irritated my skin, as I got a lot of new acne and my skin is red around them.
could it be just the normal response to new cosmetics? or is there something else I should try?

For me, really drying
I am 38 with rosacea and moderate acne. I tried using this toner with the CLEAR Cleanser and the Skin Balancing cleanser at different times. It didn't seem to matter- any application made my skin dry and tight, and I'm really oily! Paula uses lots of care and knowledge in developing her products- it just seems I need to keep trying until I find the right combination. Not a To-Go Item
I absolutely love this product, I have been using it for almost a month and have gotten incredible results! I have even cancelled my appointment with my dermatologist because this has cleared up my skin completely! But I brought this with me in an overnight bag and it spilt all over my things :( I am looking into purchasing some sample toners to bring with me on trips. Great toner!
I have little to nothing to complain about with this toner - it helps get the rest of my makeup residue off after I use cleansing oil, it doesn't sting or dry out my skin and the salicylic acid is great to help keep my oilies at bay. I do wish it was a little less spendy, as I was initially looking for a replacement for the $35 DDF Glycolic Toner - this is actually more expensive at full price, so I just have to wait for sales. Works really well!
Does what it says it does and is literally the only thing that helps when I have cystic acne. It does run out (much) faster than all of my other skin care products, and it's not cheap, but it's the only product with that crucial salicylic acid that doesn't irritate my skin at all. No redness, no stinging, no dry feeling. It actually helps calm my skin down. This is a great product, but, like I said, it's expensive and it runs out quickly. Incredible!
I really never write reviews, as it is so rare that products work for me! (I have extremely sensitive skin and have struggled for years with adult acne.) But, I started using this product two months ago, and my skin is clear for the first time in as long as I can remember. I can hardly believe the effect this has had-- my skin feels completely different. The texture is improved and my pores are smaller. Some stubborn blackheads persist in areas, but recently, I haven't even been wearing foundation, which is something I never thought possible. In terms of usage: I started using this product day/night after cleansing. I didn't experience any irritation (I had been using a stronger AHA toner so my skin could tolerate the BHA, it seems), but I actually found that blemishes healed faster when I used this toner PM only. Thank you, Paula-- I agree with the reviewer below: we should singing this product from the mountain tops! Please don't ever stop making this formula!!

Amazing!
This toner is amazing...and there's no need to exfoliate because this does it for you! It leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed. This does dry out skin if used twice a day, so perhaps start by using it once in the morning and using another toner at night! AWESOME PRODUCT! NEVER GET RID OF THIS!

There's nothing else like this on the market. This invisible, weightless toner clears clogged pores and calms the redness associated with rosacea. I use it every morning and my skin is actually skin-colored instead of a splotchy red mess. Thanks, Paula!

Too Irritating for me
This toner was too irritating for my sensitive skin. I have rosacea and acne prone skin so many products make me break out. This was not a good product for me. I have yet to find a toner I can use that doesn't aggravate my skin and seldom try one but I took a chance on this one. All my other Paula's Choice products are great for my skin but this one was not a good fit. I will go back to my 2% BHA gel. Customer Care Response: We can understand how frustrating this must be. Didn't Work For Me
Let me begin by saying salicylic acid has always made my breakouts worse. But I wanted to try Paula's formula to see if maybe hers would be the first to give me good results. Unfortunately, it didn't. But I have no complaints otherwise about the toner. It was very comparable to any other liquid toner I've used in terms of consistency, etc. I just can't use salicylic acid it seems. It actually GIVES me acne despite long term use. Bigger bottle please
Been using this toner for a while and love it. Just wish you'd make the bottle bigger to match the cleanser size, as I always run out of toner before the cleanser.

Great Exfoliant for sensitive skin!
Have been a user of Paula's BHA's since they debuted in 1995,and this has been my favorite of them all.With a slightly higher ph then the others,find it to be a bit more calming on my skin then her other BHA's.Thanks Paula from all of us with sensitive skin who still want less breakouts and that PC GLOW!

There's no cure for rosacea, but I believe this is as close as it gets. I have used Paula's 2% BHA liquid with great results, but found that I could only use it at night because it dried out my face too much if I used it during the day... and the 1% BHA products weren't strong enough for me. But this stuff is TRULY light as water and gives me all the benefits of the BHA liquid without any of the drawbacks, plus anti-inflammatory ingredients that really work. After using it for a few days I was amazed to feel comfortable going outside without makeup, with a face that was actually skin-colored instead of pink/red. Amazing :)

Love at First Swipe!
My skin ain't what she used to be. After experimenting with the other BHA's & AHA's that Paula offers with mixed results, I dug out a sample of this, swiped some on and went on with my usual routine. The next morning - FINALLY - the "strawberry seed" feel on my nose was smoothed out & my chin looked better too! I love the weightless feel of this and it's odorless from what I can tell (unlike the 1% gel!). This texture & strength are the ticket for me! So glad I had that little gem of a sample packet to try!

Great Toner!
This is my favorite Paula's Choice toner. The BHA liquid doesn't absorb into my skin like this toner does and there is nothing in it that is irritating to my skin. I can't say this product has cleared my acne, but I do think it helps. I'm purchasing my second bottle today.

Great For Non-Acne Skin, too!
As a former oily and still prone to blackheads on my nose in my 60s, I shy away from silicones and anything that makes my face feel "moist" or "dewy." Ew. This BHA toner leaves absolutely no residue, but is a VERY effective exfoliant. The pores on my nose are now almost invisible. My skin does not dry out, either. I have tried all of Paula's toners and BHA formulations, but this one is a keeper!

Wonderful Product
Works Wonders! I bought this for my daughter who is entering her teens and is starting to get acne. She doesn't like to put anything on her face and it was real challenge to find anything she would stick with. She decided to skip using this product for about a month and her skin broke out bad. After (again) discussing why BHAs are really necessary for her - she went back to using it - and her skin cleared up in a week! She is totally convinced! She likes the formula since it goes on like water and doesn't leave any residue. She saw the before and after results so now I don't have to convince her anymore. Zero residue!!
I am very happy with this product. My sensitive skin tends to get oily during the day and I hate to use BHA products under my makeup. Honestly, this is the only product I have ever found that leaves zero residue. I still use a gel from another company at night, but this is a daytime must!! So nice, light and leaves nothing behind. Works really well
My new BFF! I thought the 2% BHA lotion was the bomb until I tried this one. I have some stubborn blackheads on my nose, and chin. This takes care of all of those. Of all the BHA products Paula makes, this one is the most water-like and sinks right in. My skin is pretty dry, but I don't find this drying at all. NOT just for those with acne issues.

Such a great product that does show results. This has really cleared up my very troublesome complexion and generally improved my skin. I feel I have to say to anyone considering trying this, that of course it's not a miracle product, it may make you break out a bit at first because it's clearing out your pores and you do need to know that consistency is key. It exfoliates dead skin cell and disolves blackheads VERY VERY WELL.It is indeed as like as water - this is the most attractive characteristic of this product. I've just recently stocked up on this toner during the 15% off sale, because I now cannot live without it. Oh, there are other BHA toners out there that are recommended by Paula, but none at the price I want. It's inexpensive and it works so well! Now that the summer months are here, I've been using her mineral sunscreen (another winner), but the downside is the clogged pores. I use the toner every night and the next morning I wake up with the most gorgeously smooth skin. And the best part, in my view, is that it doesn't contain any fragrance! Hmm, I wonder if they sell any Costco sized bottles, because I'd definitely buy. Any chance selling a select few products at Costco?

HG product! I have been using Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid for a long time and it worked really well on my combination/acne-prone skin. However, it sometimes left my skin a little bit dry when used twice daily. Which is why I bought this one. And it works just as well as the 2% BHA Liquid but without the dryness and it sinks immediately into the skin! I use it during the morning only and during the night I use the 2% BHA Liquid one. This combination has definitely helped with the dryness (as well as my acne)! I love BOTH products, please keep selling them, will keep buying!

Disappointing
This product could not control my breakouts!! I'm 45 with combination skin and have used Paula's 2% BHA gel for a year with wonderful results. I expected this toner to yield similar results while cutting my exfoliant/toner steps down to one. But 1 week into using it I had the bigggest breakout I've had in years. I tried again 2 weeks later with similar results. I'm sticking with the gel - please don't stop making it!!

Can't live without exfoliating
I don't know why I was ever negative about salicylic acid. This toner works great! I use more than it suggests, and find it more effective. I soak a cotton ball or round, & sometimes I just put a little on my finger and dab it on. After I use the cotton round, I like to swipe it all over my chest, neck, arms, legs. Then, moisturize my body. I also like the extra-strength. It is not harsh.

I don't like how the toner feels (slightly slimy) and the smell of it, but it works really well. I've been getting HUGE cystic pimples on my chin every month for the past year after I stopped taking my birth control. My pimples took a couple days to form and weeks for it to go away. I tried all the pimple creams out there, but it barely made a difference. After I started using this, I stopped getting pimples on my chin!! I know because the only thing I changed with my routine was this. I didn't think it would work so well. I'm so glad I decided to try it. I decided to give this toner a try after I started dealing with repeated painful cystic acne/whiteheads. Within a week and a half, my skin has completely calmed down and looks great again! This is the BEST product for acne. Will it prevent all acne, no, unfortunately, there isn't any product that does. But is sure does help to reduce the amount of breakouts. The best part is, it doesn't dry out the skin, but really makes it feel like all the impurities have been removed. I am so happy with this product.

Great Product-Bad package
The toner is great! It works well with the system. I first bought the product around Christmas. When traveling for the holiday, the package did not seal properly. The product leaked all over and quickly evaporated away. The packaging needs to be water- and air-tight to preserve the product and allow for travel.

nice but...
I liked seeing how much dirt the toner would remove after i washed my face, and it was very light and gentle. I don't know if this is strong enough, however, to be worth the price. I would like to see more results.

This one is The One
It's just wonderful. More than I expected from one product. I have smooth skin and those horrible little bumps under my skin that turned into spots, are gone! I use Differin, Bensoylperoxid 5%, and this does so much more. It really prevents the acne more than tries to cure the spots. I have sensitive skin and this is wonderful and never stings nor irritates my skin.
If you got a problem with acne (with or without sensitive skin) you have to try this. You won't regret it!

Effective as 2% BHA, but gentler
I normally use the 2% BHA liquid (identical to the Extra Strength Clear Toner), but ordered this thinking it was actually the one that was identical to the liquid. In winter, the 2% liquid is a bit much and makes my skin peel, but nothing else (gels / lotions) are as effective on my acne. I noticed that my skin was not peeling anymore since I started using this, yet it remains clear. I checked the ingredients the other day and found that this is the new formula, not the old one I'm used to. I must say I LOVE IT. It's perfect for my slightly dry skin (along with Paula's other products). Thanks!!

Wonderful product: need bigger bottle
I have already commented previously how I love this product (really fantastic !)but forgot to add the following. The bottle is very small (118 ml) and contents is gone in no time. Can we please have a bigger bottle (preferably all toners should be 237 ml).

Great Product
This toner has really helped clear up my acne and has helped tremendously with blackheads. They're not completely gone; but my pores look the best that they ever have. I was using this every day but since my acne has improved so much I'm going to once a day or every other day to avoid over-drying.

I used to use the 2% BHA Liquid, but I'm now a convert to the CLEAR Targeted Acne Relief Toner. The 2% BHA Liquid did a decent enough job of clearing up acne but, like others who have commented here, I found that it left a sticky/shiny residue on my skin. The CLEAR Targeted Acne Relief Toner leaves no discernible residue, and it seems to work better at keeping the acne under control, too. I intend to continue using it faithfully, so please never stop making it.

Fantastic product !
This is a fantastic product ! I don't have, and never suffered from, acne, but I have always had some open pores and blackheads on the nose and chin area of my now mature combination skin (which is thin, delicate and very fussy). I first tried the BHA gel but did not like it and then tried the 2% BHA liquid. The latter leaves quite an oily residue on my skin and I was only using it at night. So I thought I try the new Clear Acne cleanser (I was using the One-Step cleanser previously)and Clear Acne Relief toner and these two products together are just wonderful ! No tight feeling, no oily residue, and I can see an improvement. I use the Clear cleanser twice a day and the Clear lotion only at night (I use the Skin Balancing lotion in the morning). I'm wrapped and so happy I came across Paula's books and products; I've learned a lot. Thank you so much Paula for the huge amount of research and effort you and your team put in so we can make informed choices and only use the best skin care !

Great Toner, no burn.
I really like this toner. It goes on smoothly and doesn't burn like some I've tried. It also does a great job at controling my minor acne breakouts. I've been suffering with painful cystic acne for 6 years now and using the Targeted Acne Cleanser and Toner together really help keep my acne under control. I still have the occasional breakout but the severity and length of time I have the pimples has greatly diminished. I highly recommend this product!

The BEST BHA product
I LOVE this product. Like others mentioned I love that it feels just like water. It doesn't have that slightly "oily" feel that the other Paulas's BHA products have.
I use it in combination with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream and I LOVE this combination. I saw definite difference after using up the samples (after about a week). I have an oily skin, prone to breakouts, blackheads and bumps. This product cleared it up completely!

Best toner or BHA EVER!
My aging, acne-prone FUSSY skin has had problems with clogging and acne even with the other toners and BHA products. (It was better with them than without, but not good enough.) This product is like a skin miracle for me! I'm clearing up more and more every day, and don't need the other products. I need less of the benzoyl-peroxide products, too. Great BHA for sensitive skin
First, I can't believe that that there is a review complaining about the product just b/c of the packaging colors. Trust me, if you tried this BHA you wouldn't give a hoot if the packaging was bright cherry red! (Which by the way the color is not bright orange, but a pearlescent copper, and combined with white makes me feel clean and sunny. ;) I liked this product b/c it works, but without the stickiness and mask like feel of the 2% BHA, which yes is the same exact formula as Paula's Choice previous BHA product, which is openly stated in the FAQ's. I would recommend this BHA to those who have extra sensitive acne prone skin and/or those who find the regular 2% BHA too sticky to wear during the day.

New acne products always fill me with trepidation. Being a lifelong acne sufferer, I am simultaneously hopeful and skeptical. But this product has been as advertised. I haven't noticed an oily film (and I have oily skin) - only a 'clean' feeling (not dry) upon drying of the product. Love it. I wear copious amts of SPF 55 on my face all summer (I work outdoors) and by fall have payback with some serious acne breakouts. I have had some inevitable breakouts but notice that they don't last as long and don't flare up as badly as years past. This product seems to expedite their passing. Yeah! Occasionally, I'm really thrown off by a perceived lack of enthusiasm for a product, and this one is a case in point. Why is no one screaming from the mountaintops about how amazing this is? (Really: I don't understand!) I've been using the BHA liquid for many years, and it works great. However, it leaves a residue on the skin, as many skincare products do, which doesn't diminish its effectiveness; but at the end of the day, I don't like residues (do you?). But this one? Well, it literally IS like water (just like advertised), and anyone with oily skin like myself is bound to think this is the best thing since sliced bread. In fact, I pretty much bet no one will ever top the texture or effectiveness of this product. Why? Because true perfection cannot be improved upon.

Wonderful exfoliant!
I have used the gel and lotion versions of the BHA as well as the 2% liquid. This version is by far my favorite. It does feel "light as water" as well as keeping my pores clear. I don't need to apply moisturizer over it either as it leaves my skin soft and hydrated but not with a "film". This is my nighttime BHA and I will continue to use this for as long as it is in production! Great formula Paula!

Greasy residue
I just received the new CLEAR acne targeted toner and after the first use, it left my skin with an oily and greasy film/residue. I will continue to use, but I thought as a toner, it should leave my skin refreshed and squeaky clean.

It actually sounds like you may have used the Extra Strength Toner as it can leave a film like the one you mentioned and is considered normal. If it was indeed the Regular Strength Toner, typically, this type of greasy or oily feeling can be indication that too much is being used. You should only need to use about a nickel size amount of product on a cotton round or pad. Paula has found that a "squeaky clean" actually can be damaging to the skin. This means that the skin barrier has affected and can lead to problems if this is a continued practice.
