Great for sports
I use this sunscreen whenever I go for a run. I never have to worry about sweating because it's waterproof. My son can use it too who plays waterpolo. Very silky, no stinging. I use this almost every day. It's so affordable and well-formulated! Perfect for my combination skin. The packaging is not terribly elegant, so I dispense the product into a 2.5oz pump-bottle from the Olay Complete line. This makes application more pleasant, like I'm applying a lovely lotion instead of an intense sunscreen.

Great sunscreen for normal-to-dry skin
I was lured into buying this sunscreen when it was on sale earlier this year. I can't say that it's completely non-greasy, but it doesn't break me out or leave an oily sheen. I do find it to be more moisturizing than the name implies, so I'm liking it more as the weather cools than I did in the summer. I'll use it now for the smooth texture and the antioxidants, but I'll probably need a matte foundation with SPF when summer comes again. This is just too moisturizing for when my skin it at its oiliest, but it's a great product for normal-to-dry skin and I'll probably buy it again when my tube runs out.

Packaging needs work
I started using this sunscreen as an alternative to a facial moisturizer because I couldn't find one with a high SPF. I'm outside a good part of my day so SPF 15 just wasn't cutting it. This product has replaced my daily SPF moisturizer perfectly - and when compared to the smaller 2-ish oz face moisturizer packages, this is a huge bang for the buck. I will agree with many others though - the packaging is not good at all. I find I have to lean the tube upside down or put it in a cup to keep the cap up so I don't open it up to a huge mess. I think a packaging similar to the cleansers would be preferred as this formula is thin enough that it doesn't requires very little "squeeze" to get it to come out. I realize the flip top packaging isn't meant for products with antioxidants, but because this sunscreen is so thin anyway, there's no way to keep air out of the tube. Overall though, it's a wonderful sunscreen and even though it doesn't leave a very matte finish, once I've put my makeup on and finished with a little powder, it's perfect and I know I'm protected from whatever "extra" sun I'll get on any given day. Good sunscreen, but still too greasy for oily skin
It provides good sun protection, but it is a bit too oily for my skin, and it stinks my face a little. Customer Care Response: We can understand your frustration with this product. Using foundation with SPF 15 can be your primary source of sun protection if our sunscreens are too heavy for you. Just make sure to apply it liberally and evenly. In the meantime we will send you samples of our Shine Stopper which is applied over your sunscreen or makeup by patting it on the skin to help absorb shine and oil.

Chalky/Greasy despite name
I am a sunscreen fanatic, so I've tried nearly every brand, in all price ranges. Paula gets a lot of hits, but this a miss. When applied by itself after vigorous shaking, it streaks and pills up and leaves that white cast we so dread. I also wouldn't say this is non greasy, to the contrary its quite emollient feeling. looked greasy and felt that way too. Customer Care Response: We do have another sunscreen that is lighter than this one you may try. It is called Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion SPF 15 which is very light and fluid. It sets to a matte finish and will not leave you greasy or shiny. The best
I love this sunscreen! I've been using it for at least a month now. I wanted to try it out before I wrote this.
The texture is creamy and absorbs quickly. Its not greasy and does not cause me to break out (which everything else seems to). My only suggestion is that it be put in a tube or pump with a bit more control over the amount dispensed. It is a little thin for the tube opening. But that is a small matter when you consider the positives. I will be back for more. There are comments about the need for a flip top on this product...how long ago were they submitted? My last container did have a flip top...so just how OLD are these reviews?

I was hoping for a sunscreen that had a higher SPF and a finish that didn't leave a shine. This one really did a nice job. I use it during the day on my face. It hasn't caused me to breakout which is always a plus.

Great product - not so great packaging
I'm very pleased with the product as it feels great and leaves no greasy residue after application. The tube and cap need to have larger threads so it will not be so difficult to replace the top after using the product.

Texture not quite up to par with claims made
I purchased this sunscreen after experiencing awesome results with Paula's 2% BHA gel. I was running out of my Garnier Nutritioniste Anti-Sun-Damage SPF 28 and turned to Paula for hopefully another winner.
The claims on this sunscreen, particularly on its texture, are impressive and I was excited to try it. The first thing I experienced with this sunscreen is really unsightly pilling if I used this on top of the BHA gel. I figured using two Paula's Choice products together would be perfect, but it was pretty much the opposite. I tried to remedy this by using the sunscreen on top of BHA liquid and it was better..but not great.
The biggest thing about this is that it doesn't really "set to a matte finish". My skin is always shiny after using this. I assume because of this, this DOES NOT work well under makeup. THE PILLING....UGH. I can't stand how badly this balls up under OR over everything.
To its credit, the broad-spectrum protection is very good and it is very lightweight and watery. However, the finish (which is a significant part of why I purchased this) is very lacking. I've already tried toughing this out for the last 3 months and no combination of products with this sunscreen has really worked. I will use the rest on my hands, arms and neck, but will continue searching for something appropriate for my face. need a pocket size
If you are serious about encouraging the use of sunscreen, you need a 1 to 2 ounce reclosable tube. I keep a tube in the pocket of every ski parka, camping parka, and bicycle jacket. Great sunscreen
We use a lot of sunscreen as we live in the Mojave Desert & do work outside in the yards often. We cover ourselves head to toes. This sunscreen is lightweight, not greasy, doesn't leave white residue, doesn't add to feeling hot. It is comfortable in everyway. We love it & are happy to not be using the other natl brands that do everything this sunscreen doesn't. I bought 5 tubes on the half price sale & we will use it all by end of Oct. Love the lotion, hate the cap!
I had been using the Essential Non-Greasy for several years (and loving it) but bought this last summer for stronger protection. Overall, I like the lotion itself better than the Essential. I love the smooth, light texture! But it REALLY needs a different cap. Even a screw cap with bigger threads would be better, so you don't have to line it up just right. I actually store this upside down in my toothbrush cup, but even so, the inside of the cap eventually becomes a gooey mess. I'm here to order more though--in the end it's totally worth the mess! Best SunScreen
This sunscreen is a godsend to me. Why? because it goes on dry,aborbs instantly, doesn't feel sticky or greasy. Same when I apply it to my face, blends well, absorbtion is remarkable. I do not wear makeup during the day, so do not have to deal with how it does under makeup. I also apply it to arms and neck, chest area and it absorbs right in with no problems. Great product for the whole family!
We live in sunny (very sunny) Hawaii and a dermatologist have told me that here it takes 3 min. in the sun to damage and burn unprotected skin. Sunscreen daily is a must for me and my family. This sunscreen is very nice. I like that it is not thick and I can spread it easy on my skin and my children's. I have dry skin, however the lotion is not dry for me at all. I use it on my kids faces and body, myself (face and body), even my husband uses it. It is tricky to screw the cap, but I lay the open bottle down and close the cap after I spread the lotion on my skin. That works for me. Thank you Paula for this wonderful suncreen! I LOVE it. I REALLY wanted it to work..
I have purchased the Sunscreen SPF 45 twice because I thought that I could forgo the stinging but after the last purchase, I couldn't buy it again. It stung mildly but my main concern was the fact when it got near my eyes I had an awful time wiping it off (it hurt). I since switched to another brand that has SPF Broad Spectrum of 100. It is heavier in lotion but the sting is non-existent. If the product changes the stinging formula, I will be the first one in line to convert back. The first non-zinc oxide/ titanium dioxide sunscreen I've ever used that doesn't irritate my skin. Had a teeny-tiny stinging very close to the eyes-- but only lasted for 15 seconds & no redness. It's so nice to have a sunscreen that doesn't give me that white cast that I get from zinc oxide/ titanium dioxide! Works well under my foundation. Just went on a ski trip and everyone was begging me for this-- the only sunscreen that kept us from getting a sunburn when @ 10,000 ft above sea level. Glad I brought all 5 bottles! Wish it was made in a 10 oz size!!

Not pleasant to use
Does NOT have a pleasant smell. The twist-cap is absolutely horrible (think spills and cleanliness). The yellow font is also not eye-catching. Shiny finish
Easy to apply, yes a bit runny. No problems with eye stinging. I would agree it is not "greasy" but it does leave a shiny finish especially around my oily areas-nose & forehead. If you are looking for a matte finish, this is not the one.

Difficult to rate
In freezing winter, this is good sunscreen with adequate moisture. In muggy summer, this is too heavy and oily for its designated "normal to oily/combination" skin. In winter, I use it one face; in summer, I use it on body.

light and matte
This sunscreen is extremely light and matte on the skin. I think it is the mattest feeling sunscreen I've ever used. Completely weightless! No breakouts whatsoever. There is a bit of stinging though - most likely due to the high content of sunscreen ingredients. The consistency is somewhat watery, so it's very easy to spread across the face. LOVE IT! Also perfect for the body. No grease at all.

Wonderful Sunscreen!
This is a wonderfully moisturizing sunscreen! I use it every day under my makeup and I have extremely sensitive skin which tends to be on the dry side. This is the first sunscreen I've found that feels good on my skin, moisturizes and doesn't cause a reaction or breakout without being heavy. Enthusiastically recommend!!

Runny but great
I have very sensitive skin and thought I would try this product. It is the first sunscreen that I have tried that does not make my skin feel coated with a thick greasy film. I golf so am out in the sun for a very long time and it works very well and I do not have to reapply during the round like I have had to do in the past. I just wish it had come with a warning about how runny it is. The first time I used it about a quarter of the contents came out because I squeezed the tube. I agree the pop top would have stopped this from happening.

Sun Screen that Stays PutQ
I wear this sunscreen everyday on my face and neck. I cannot begin to express how happy I am with it. Many sun screens run into my eyes causing stinging, burning and constant watering. non-greasy, absorbs well
I really like this sunscreen! It's relatively non-greasy compared to other sunscreens, doesn't feel heavy (though you can obviously still feel a little bit of a light "sunscreen film"), and it absorbs well (no detectable whiteness). The only thing is that I've been reading news articles about oxybenzone being bad...

A sunscreen that isn't sticky and greasy!
I just tried a sample of this sunscreen and now I'm back to order a bottle. I was very impressed with its non-greasy feel. I've read the other reviews and I agree that this sunscreen would be very irritating if used on the face, but it's a terrific sunscreen for the body. (I use Paula's mattifying SPF 15 on my face, and it's wonderfully non-irritating.) It's very difficult to find a sunscreen with a high SPF that doesn't make you feel like you're melting into a sweaty, greasy mess! I live in FL where it's hot and humid most of the year, and all other sunscreens simply make me long for the moment I'll be able to shower and wash the mess off.

Feel very nice on the skin
This sunscreen has a very nice silky finish. Sinks into the skin yet is not too dry feeling, nor too emollient feeling. The lotion is very liquid and can be messy. A pump type bottle would help with that. On the other hand, packaged as it is in a tube, you can throw it into your beach bag.

I like most of Paula's products, including this one. It's not greasy like other sunscreen products that I have tried, which is very important when wearing makeup. It also makes my skin look smooth and dewy.

NOT Non-Greasy
I ordered this sunscreen thinking it would be non-greasy and good under makeup. Not the case at all. Takes too long to absorb and no where near as matte as Dermadoctor Sunscreen. Also the bottle expiration date was Dec 2010 but the pic on the bottle shows it's supposed to last 12-18 months from the time opened. What's that about?!

I'm not sure how to rate this product. To begin with I should say I have very sensitive skin, dry and prone to acne.
It has a very nice texture, easily absorbs into the skin without leaving any white film. A good product with high SPF and if it worked for me I would never use anything else. HOWEVER, I have sensitive skin and this does sting and burn my face. Depending on what condition my skin is, I can use it mixed with a little moisturiser and just get minimal stinging.
So good, but not for us with sensitive skin. Hope that Paula will bring us a high SPF sunscreen for us with sensitive skin.

Wonderful Sunscreen
I had put this product in an envelope to return when thank goodness I had a second though. Instead of putting the suncreen on with my fingers (and no doubt rubbing it in) I decided to use a cosmetic sponge instead. It made all the difference in that it did not start to peel and rub off almost immediately. It also helps that I put a large enough portion of the Skin Balancing Moisture Gel into the palm of my hand and mix into it a bit of Resist Super Antioxdant Concentrate Serum. I apply that to my face, neck and upper chest and let it dry completely. Only then do I use a sponge to apply the sunscreen. The other comment I would make is that the suncreen is a very thin solution and I am wondering if there is a reason for that! Also, please, someone redesign the tube so that the lid is a flip-top because when you lay the tube down without the cap on for a moment it can leak out and I waste product.

Extremely Effective Sunscreen

Poor packaging for dispensing
I used this as well as Ultra-Light Sunscreen Spray Lotion SPF 55 and I must say that the SPR 55 won for its user-friendly packaging. Yes, no one can tell the difference in texture, but the packaging of SPF45 makes application more cumbersome.

The best sunscreen!
This sunscreen has been great for my normal to oily skin. So far this summer, I have had no need for a moisturizer and only put this on my skin. With an SPF of 45 and some added antioxidants, I know that I am taking care of my my skin and protecting it. As a man, I like things simple and this easily fits the bill, it's no too thick and easily absorbed without it being greasy or smelly (I even use it around my eyes).

Having combination skin and using Retin-A made me look for an effective but gentle enough sunscreen. I'm so happy with this one: it's light and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy. The first time I applied it to my face, it stung a little but it never happened again. This is a wonderful product!

Great for water
It doesn't feel as heavy as other sunscreens, but I think it still feels a bit waxy. When I'm going boating, this is the only one I use. It stays put! It doesn't feel gooey at all. Overall, a great sunscreen!

I had high expectations towards this product but can't use it on my face. I rubbed my eye while driving today and OMG! I thought I'll go blind - had to stop immediately. It stings really bad and because its waterproof I couldn't get it out of my eye at least for 2 hours. I'll use this tube on my legs but don't think I'll repurchase. Agree about the cup with others.

Great Product - Poor Packaging
I have been using this product for around 4 wks & must say it works wonderfully! The sunscreen is quite milky so I often end up with more product in my hand than I would originally have wanted. This works out well though because if I end up with any excess I rub it into my neck and declote which is so easy to forget about! It does sting a little around the eye so I use the SPF15 which is milder in that area. This product could definitely benefit from a flip top.

I've been using the new SPF45 lotion daily for about 5 weeks - I LOVE IT! I love the consistency and how light it feels. I love how it absorbs and leaves my skin soft, not greasy. It doesn't burn, just tingles. It doesn't cause breakouts. I have been dying for light, high SPF lotion from Paula's Choice for years to help with my melasma, and this is definitely it, finally! 2. Isn't slick, shiny or greasy
3. Doesn't run into my eyes as the day wears on

Like others have reported, this sunscreen stings. I mean it's not so bad to bring anyone to tears. However, it is undeniably present. The stinging/ burning eventually subsides. Other than that, this is a fantastic product.

This sunscreen did not make my eyes sting. It applied very well and felt good on my skin. It is not sticky or greasy. I do agree with others though that the packaging should be given greater consideration as the product is too fluid for a tube type packaging. Perhaps a pump would be better.

Though I've used Paula's products for many years, I've never used the Avobenzone- or Oxybenzone-based sunscreens because they sting my face (in any brand or formulation). After trying a friend's tube of this product on my arms and legs, I found that I really like the finish, and I will continue to use it on my body.
To those people who have a stinging reaction on their face, I'm guessing that Paula's product has higher levels of the active sunscreen ingredients than drugstore varieties, and that you're experiencing what I've always experienced from the most common chemical sunscreens: burning and irritation. I'm looking forward to Paula producing a mineral sunscreen (the only kind that has never bothered my face) higher than SPF 15.

Only white if you don't rub it IN!
The people who say this leaves their skin white or purple haven't rubbed it in fully. This sunscreen is so gentle on the skin and absorbs well even into my oily/combination skin.

Another excellent sunscreen
I have been using Paula's Choice products for many years. I stray every now and then, always because Paula herself raves about something else, and I always come back. That's the funny thing about this line: Paula inadvertently downplays her own products!
Notice how the claims on every product are nominal. This is awesome, of course, because, on one hand, who needs more blatant lies and false promises on skincare products. But on the other hand, many of her products do much more than they claim. This sunscreen is no exception.
This sunscreen is very cosmetically elegant. That is to say, it's oil absorbing and leaves a soft glow while feeling very light and non-occlusive. This sunscreen actually makes one's skin look fantastic. That's a cosmetic effect, of course, but who cares?
Like others have mentioned, the packaging it utilitarian (which is fine) but terrible. This definitely shouldn't have a screw-on lid. That's the only inconsistency in the entire line---mediocre to bad packaging. But at the end of the day, who cares? These products are affordable, efficacious, sometimes miraculous, always understated; they do exactly what they say they will do---and often more. What more could you ask for?

I love paula and am very faithful to her products, but i noticed that this stung a bit when i wore it (i just got samples). I tried it once before swimming... it ran into my eyes and i thought i was going to go blind. I had to run inside and douse my eyes with eyedrops. Try the lotion spray.

Great sunscreen!
I have to wear sunscreen head to toe every day, and I like how quickly this one absorbs. Although it is thin in consistency, I love that it doesn't feel like I'm wearing a sticky layer of dirt on my skin as I've experienced with other sunscreens. I have sensitive, combination skin on my face and I can wear this sunscreen head to toe with no problem (unless I get it too close to my eyes). The only negative is that it would be much more convenient with a flip-top cap. Overall, this is my favorite sunscreen!

Love this product - great value! Does need time to absorb for me, but the high SPF is worth it. I have to echo others though, and ask for a flip-top cap! The screw-top is SO annoying, especially with freshly-lotioned hands.

Dissapointed
This was the first product that I've ordered from Paula's, and I was so excited and couldn't wait to try it, I've heard so many good things about her products. However I've used this product off and on for a few weeks now trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. But I finally had to stop because it has really irritated and dried my skin out, no natural glow what so ever! I also noticed after a few uses it started to sting my face when i applied which I have never encountered with a sunscreen before. I also didn't care for the consistency of the product, it was extremely runny, literally poured right out of the tube. I also had problems with it stining my eyes as well.On a good note though, I will say that it didn't cause any breakouts.
I finally came to the conclusion though that it was not for me. I am just so heartsickened because I was really looking forward to this product in hopes that it would work. My skin is still recovering.

Stings my skin
It is not greasy and watery. It texture is fine to me. but it stings my skin every time. I couldn't return it because I was out of country. I truly want to returen it. It stings skin and I've got some pimples on my forehead. :(

Very Good
Overall, this is a great product. It goes on a little shiny, but after a slight dusting of powder stays matte for the rest of the day. Personally I would prefer an in-part physical block, because my skin is quite sensitive. This product does sting/burn a little bit sometimes. Also, this is more of a milky texture and really should be packaged in a vertical format so that it doesn't drip out of the tube.

Stings My Skin
I so much wanted to like this product - and I do except that is causes my face (and eyes) to burn. UGH! I guess I'll go back to the 'Essential Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 15' that I used for years. I do however like the way this product feels on my face. Too bad I will have to return it!

Excellent sunscreen
This is a great option for daily sun protection. It applies easily and dries to a satin-matte finish quickly. It gives my skin a healthy glow--not shiny, not greasy. I appreciate the great sun protection in this elegant formulation. It works well under makeup, too (just make sure you let it dry before applying foundation).

Great Sunscreen!
This sunscreen makes your skin moisturized and smooth and is not greasy or sticky feeling at all. Some of Paulas sunscreens make your skin too shiny and may feel greasy up to an hour after application, but not this one. It has great sun protection and absorbs quickly into your skin within 10 minutes or less. I would say its more matte than the mattifying lotion.

Is Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 45 suitable for blemish-prone skin? Although it is impossible to state with certainty that someone will not break out from a sunscreen, the texture and finish of Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 45 is very unlikely to cause such problems. Oftentimes what causes breakouts from sunscreens are either the active ingredients or the ingredients used create the product's texture. Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 45 contains lightweight ingredients and its active ingredients are less likely to trigger or exacerbate blemishes.
You have several sunscreens that offer significant sun protection. Which one should I choose? It mostly comes down to personal preference. Ultra Light Weightless Finish SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray is a silky, non-aqueous liquid; Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 45 is a silky, lightweight lotion with a smooth matte finish; and Extra Care Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 30 has a thicker, creamier texture for normal to dry skin and mineral-based sun protection.
All of these sunscreens provide broad-spectrum sun protection and supply sufficient UVA protection. The SPF 45 sunscreen has a soft matte finish and can be considered more absorbent due to its formula. The SPF 45 sunscreen is also very water-resistant, while Extra Care Moisturizing Sunscreen SPF 30 is water-resistant. Ultra Light Weightless Finish SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray has not been tested for water-resistance (though based on its formula, it stays on quite well during submersion in water). Keep in mind that whether a sunscreen is labeled water-resistant or not, routine reapplication is necessary to ensure protection.
I thought Paula said sunscreens rated above SPF 30 weren't needed—SPF 30 is enough, right? For the most part, SPF 30 is sufficient. But there are two reasons why you may want to consider a higher SPF. Many dermatologists feel that a higher SPF is necessary because most people don't apply sunscreen liberally, and when there is a higher concentration of sunscreen active ingredients (as would be the case in a sunscreen with a higher SPF number) you would be getting better protection even if you didn't apply it liberally. The other reason to consider a higher SPF is if you want to stay in the sun for even longer periods of time and have very fair to light skin color.
Although Paula has spoken out against the fact that other companies offer sunscreens with oftentimes ridiculously high SPF ratings (such as SPF 70 or 100), the issue has always been that such products tend to give consumers a false sense of security. They erroneously believe that a higher SPF only needs to be applied once as they spend the day in the sun. That is not the case for any sunscreen number. A sunscreen rated SPF 30 or above provides longer but notbetter protection. That means you can stay in the sun longer before your skin shows signs of turning color, but does not negate the need to reapply every two hours after periods of swimming, perspiring, or toweling off.
