I love, love, love this product! It goes on silky smooth, feels great on my skin, and it gets LOTS of residual dirt off my face. Ever since I started using it, my skin seems much cleaner. I'm actually now somewhat grossed out that I used to put skin care products on such a dirty face...no more! :)

My Favorite Skincare Product
First, I have to make clear that I don't generally like or use toners. however, this formulation is fabulous and I smooth it over my skin on my fingertips after cleansing as a light moisturizer and immediate dose of antioxidants and beneficial skincare ingredients. Some days, this is all the moisturizer I need. It helps my night time moisturizer, daytime SPF, exfoliants, and other treatments absorb quickly and evenly. I found the smell a little strange at first but now I love it. The consistency does vary a bit from batch to batch.

I adore this toner as it has completely changed my skin! For whatever reason, as I approach thirty (11/09, happy birthday to me!), my acne is clearing up, but the small amount of sun damage and the few fine lines I have are starting to show up. My skin has also become a drier, going from very oily to normal skin type. This toner really babies and pampers my skin, giving it plenty of hydration without clogging my pores. I use it around my eyes, too, and have notices a difference in the texture of the skin and a softening of the slight crepeiness underneath the eye area. I just wish it came in a gallon jug!

not mosturizing enough
Loved the texture of this, but wasn't mosturizing enough, plus I think the retinol irritated my sensitive skin. I guess I will stick to the Skin Recovery Mosturizer! Not for me
I really hoped this line would work well for me but unfortunatly it started stinging when I applied it. After a few days of using it my face was so dry like I had a bad sunburn so I had to discontinue use. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. I really wanted to like this toner as most of the other PC Resist products I use have worked well. The texture of this is quite nice and it makes my skin feel smooth and refresed with no irritation. That being said, the odor is really off putting. I am able to handle the somewhat chemical smell of the other PC products I use but this one makes me queasy. I have to breath thru my mouth until it goes away. When I run out I plan to go back to the Skin Recovery toner as it works well for me and the smell is inoffensive. I did not use a toner before trying this product because they usually make my face sting. This one is amazing! It makes my skin feel calm and moisturized. I tried it one day because I got a little overzealous with my Clarisonic, so I looked through my samples and found this one with the hope that it would calm my skin down. My facial redness went away quickly and I promptly ordered a bottle of this stuff. I've been hooked ever since (about 2 weeks)! I use it every day, morning and night. I am now a toner convert!

BEST toner ever!
I'm in love with RESIST toner, and feel that I finally find THE toner for me! This rich, emollient, silky yet light liquid soothes my skin as soon as I apply it over my face. My skin is very soft after even the first application. I've tried so many skin care products - from very expensive department store brands, spa products to drugstore cosmetics, but I'm completely sold to PC products, and this toner is a must-have among other PC products I fell in love with!

Itches!
I read so many glowing reviews here that I was really excited to try this toner. Unfortunately, every time I have used it since it arrived, my face starts to itch! I tried eliminating each product in my regimen separately to make sure I wasn't imagining it or that it wasn't something else, but it's definitely the toner. I'm really disappointed. I couldn't tell if the effects were otherwise helping my skin. I gave the ratings a three because I have faith in Paula's products in general so I couldn't rate this too poorly, but I can't use something that makes me scratch. :( Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. Best toner
I feel like Paula's toners are not really traditional "toners" but more like less-intensive TREATMENT products. This is a silky-but-thin toner that really calms down my skin. It leaves no oily film as some other "silky" products can do. It's a perfect neutral finish for me, and I have very oily skin. This has anti-irritants, antioxidants and even an anti-glycation ingredient: carnosine. As with other Paula toners, I don't use a cotton ball -- I just splash this on.

I love this toner
This is the best toner I have ever used. I have combo (mostly oily), sensitive skin that is aging and getting drier. One swipe of this toner seems to calm any redness and hydrate any dryness. Along with the Resist cleanser, I feel like my face is very clean without being stripped. Excellent product!

Unfortunately no good for me
This seemed like the perfect addition to my regimen, and I am using and LOVE the Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator. I used this for about one week and noticed my skin was oilier than it had been in a while and I got a few breakouts, whereas I had none for months just using the hydrator and 2% BHA. Went through a ton of blotting papers and gave up hope. This seems like it would be a dream come true for drier skin. I'm disappointed that it didn't work out! This instantly repaired my irritated skin!
Yesterday I accidentally put on too much Retin-A. I woke up with really red, raw, irritated skin that was weeping pus and blood in some places! I looked like an angry, peeling tomato. It hurt! I looked through the samples I skin-care samples I received from Paula's Choice and picked this toner. Keep in mind, I didn't believe that toners were necessary up until then. OMG my skin was INSTANTLY soothed. The redness disappeared. My face stopped throbbing in pain. This was all within less than a minute. I don't know what in this product was the miracle worker or why my face reacted THAT badly to the Retin-A, but(needless to say) I'm a fan of Paula ...and toners in general now! I'm going to check out more of the products on this site and order some more samples. Oh, I also put on the Antioxidant Serum a few minutes after the toner. It's another great product! I've seriously never seen a skin care product soothe my skin as quickly as this toner though. Thank you Paula!!!!!!!! :)

Best Toner !
This toner really is special! I love it! I started using toner when Clinique first came to the market and was a number 2. Gave up on it years ago and have been trying lots of new "state of the art" expensive things. Most don't work. But being Beautypedia reader, I asked myself, why not try Paula's stuff? Glad I did! This softens my skin and doesn't sting. As I use her BHA lotion and then the spf lotion after, I'm not sure what is working best. But this sure helps!

Toner??
Never used a toner in my life! Didn't think I needed one. Now, I can't imagine my skin regimen without it! A little goes a long way on the cotton pad. I know my skin is clean and balanced and ready for her other products. :)

Not For Me
Like many other customer reviews, this product seemed to work fine at first. However, I started to develop redness, red bumps, and irritated skin. Stopped using to let symtpoms calm and try to identify culprit in my skin care regime. Just used again last pm after two months of reprieve and have awoken to scarlet red cheeks and puffy eyes. Beyond the Face and Neck!
I am a huge PC fan and thank Paula and her team so much for simplifying skin care!! I LOVE this toner not only for my face and neck but also my body. It's a great lightweight moisturizer before using a self tanner ( PC's the best) and sunblock for exposed areas. Plus the ingredients are awesome! I am turning 50 and try to give the skin on my body the same TLC I give my face. It really doesn't take much time to do, I put a spray top on the bottle. I welcome a larger size! :)

Cyclopentasiloxane?
I loved this toner at first, but after a week, I started breaking out along the cheek and chin (as another reviewer commented). I am so disappointed! I used to be able to use any of Paula's products with no problem, but several of the new products have caused breakouts. Just when I thought my Rosacea was well-managed...
My rosacea became even less pronounced when I began using this toner. I could not believe that it was possible for my rosacea to become even less noticeable. I have been using 1% BHA lotion as well as a Paula's pick for sunscreen during the day to manage it. Also, I love how I don't have to avoid the eye area with this toner. When have you ever seen a toner that you can use all over? I have also noticed how much my already soft skin has gotten. Perhaps Paula can change her line of awesome skin care to "Paula's Perfection."

Maybe not for all skin types?
I had used the Skin Balancing toner for some time but decided to try switching to the Resist because the SB contains some animal-derived ingredients which I try to avoid. However, I have been noticing an increase in blackheads and oil, as well as minor redness/flaking, since using this product. I will be going back to the SB toner (even though my conscience is going to weigh on me) because it really does keep my combination skin balanced! Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. I had previously tried PC hydralight toner and used the skin balancing toner. I was kinda on the fence about whether I really needed to use a toner. The skin balancing toner seemed nice but my combo skin was still experiencing peeling even in the oily areas. I decided to try out this toner once I was out of the balancing toner and I'm so glad I did! It's just enough extra moisture to make my skin feel comfortable and look less red than it has since I was 19! But, my bottle at least has a "double locking" type lid. While I thought I had it closed it JUMPED (ok maybe I bumped it on accident!) off my counter and the lid came right off-as did lots of the toner onto the floor. I understand why the toner is in a light proof container which I appreciate but I have no idea how much is left and the bottle was relatively new. I bet my floor feels lovely now LOL Lid=evil, toner=marvelous :) Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review! I have combination skin. There is something in this that really irritates my skin. It caused my skin to break out in red bumps along the cheekbone areas. I have tried most of Paula's Toners, though I haven't had great success with a lot of them. This breakout problem is also true for both the Hydralight Healthy Skin and the Skin Balancing Toners. However, the Skin Recovery Toner and the CLEAR Acne Regular Strength Toner did not have this effect. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. Almost a miracle!
I, too, stopped using toner years ago; Paula's Moisture Boost cleanser and any nuimber of her moisturizers and/or sunscreens worked just fine for me. Yes, it is expensive; and yes, there is a funny smell (that disappears very quickly), but the results on my 58-year-old dry with slight rosacea are immediate and so very worth it! I am on a pretty tight budget these days, but this is the one RESIST product I will include in this budget as long as I can.

High end at a low cost
This toner is great for those of us with mature skin, breakouts and dryer skin than what we would like to have. I have tried many expensive to very expensive toners and this is the best and so much cheaper. My skin feels and looks younger. Thank you Paula for all your research!!!!!

Great toner, but not for me
Very soothing and elegantly formulated toner. I'm not using it at this time because it makes my skin a little oily when I follow it with my Resist moisturizer. Probably I'll retry using it in the dry and cold winter days.

the best toner ever - but way over priced
Being from the beauty industry, I've used zillions of toners through the years. Most are a waste of time and money or actually irritate the skin. So the age old question of "do I really need a toner?" for me has been no. But this line does such a great job with other products that I thought I'd give this one a try. What a treat! This is hands down the best toner I've ever tried. It feels divine and sweeps away anything left after using the hydrating cleanser. it's a great way to get an extra dose of beneficial ingredients without leaving anything sitting on the skin. I would give this *5* stars, but it's way over priced. This comes in a 4oz bottle, while it's priced the same (or more) as many department store toners that come in 6.7 or 6.8 ounce bottles. A Love/Hate Relationship
This is a great toner, gentle and moisturizing, and genuinely improves the appearance of my skin. The bad news is the smell, which makes me look around for a diaper pail even though my "baby" is 38. It really is quite rank, but the smell fades quickly from the skin.

amazing results
i've been a paula's choice fan for years, and i think her products just keep getting better. i ran out of the skin balancing toner, and decided to try the resist toner, though i was a little afraid it would be too emollient for my slightly breakout-prone skin. i shouldn't have worried - this toner prevents redness, makes my skin smoother, and provides enough moisture that i don't need any moisturizer. the results were immediate and very noticeable. another incredible product from paula.

I've never used toners--I always thought they were just a money grab by the skin care industry. Then I read the description of the Resist toner & it sounded like MUCH more than a cheap astringent. After just a few days of use, my skin looked clear & radiant--almost translucent. I was amazed! This stuff is GREAT! I slather it on morning & night--it goes a long way if you don't waste any in a cotton ball.I pour it on my fingers & spread it on my face after washing. It does calm redness; I have rosacea but have had no flare ups if I use the right PC products. This toner is surely one of them!

I decided to add a toner into my regimen because I felt like I could use more antioxidants between my daytime moisturizer (Cerave AM) and exfoliant (CLEAR regular strength). All I can say is wow! Before I never thought a toner was necessary, but now I can't live without this stuff! I love the milky consistency, it's very soothing and calms any redness. Also I don't wake up to a beard of flakes anymore from my tretinoin! Please... pretty please don't ever discontinue!

Toner - AWESOME!
I have been using the Resist Cleanser and evening moisturiser for several months and enjoyed them...then I added the toner and WOW. Within several weeks, I can visibly see that the smiling wrinkles around my eyes are lessened...as has my husband! I am thrilled (as is he!). For me, this toner is the key to a younger face. I am stoked to have tried it out and will keep on with it.

Really good stuff
I was extremely impressed with this toner. I stopped using toners for a very long time, since I rarely wear full makeup and feel like cleansing on its own is generally enough. In the last few months, I did try another toner from Paula's Choice that is okay, but basically just something that might catch some excess makeup/sunscreen that accidentally didn't get washed off, nothing really all that spectacular. I was hesitant to try another toner because I just felt "Why?" But I have been very impressed with almost all of the Resist products so far, so after reading the positive reviews on this product, I thought I'd give it a shot. And, I'm glad I did. This stuff actually lives up to the name "toner." I truly see and feel a difference in my skin when using my Paula's Choice Resist products with this toner, as opposed to using them without. This feels like giving my skin its own drink of water that really absorbs and hydrates. I almost feel like it is a very light mini-treatment all its own, a pre-routine moisture infusion. My skin is sort of the T-Zone combo skin, mostly normal, but with oily areas on the nose and chin, more normal/dry around the cheeks and under eyes. But I actually think that people with oily skin or problems with breakouts would really like this toner for moisturizing purposes. Especially if you have problems with getting flaky, dry skin *over* the oily areas (I hate that!) I think this would really help add non-greasy moisture to dry areas of the face and keep things softer. Anyway, a big thumbs up to Paula's Choice on this one, nice work.

Bottle design is BRILLIANT
I see others complaining about the bottle design, and I don't understand why. I have experienced no problems dispensing the toner onto a cotton pad or onto my hand. Also, I don't need to worry if I should happen to tip the bottle over, which can sometimes happen. I absolutely love and appreciate the fact that Paula puts a lot of thought into the design of her packaging in order to protect the antioxidants in the formula from exposure to light and air. Most companies neglect to do this. I think the bottle design is PERFECT, and I wouldn't change a thing.

Resist Toner great - bottle not so great!
Because the bottle is impossible to squeeze (unlike the Skin Recovery Toner) I have to shake it over the cotton ball to coax the milky liquid out. In the process I often waste some. I notice from reading the reviews that others simply bypass the cotton ball & shake the toner directly into their palms or fingers and spread it over the face with their fingertips. This sounds like a great idea as the product ends up exactly where it belongs: on the skin to do its magic and not gobbled up by the cotton ball, only to end up in the trash!
Question: Is this a good method of application or does it defeat the purpose? Isn't the idea to "remove the last traces of makeup with the cotton-soaked toner"? (I think I read that on Paula's site at one time). Please enlighten me. Thanks.

Excellent toner
After reading the other reviews on this product I just had to add my own. I am 49 years old with normal/sensitive skin. This toner is very soothing on the skin, does not irritate whatsoever, and I like the fact that it has lots of antioxidants and other beneficial ingredients in the formula. When I apply it after cleansing, I feel as though I'm giving my skin a treatment. To me, it's more than just a toner. I would definitely repurchase and would highly recommend it to others.

this is a toner worth using
I have not used toners in years since I thought they were useless or damaging (if there's alcohol). So glad I gave this a chance. This is definitely worth using! It leaves my 50+ skin smooth and hydrated. My forehead seems less oily.
Since this stuff is so good, I don't want to waste any of it. Instead of soaking a cotton pad, I splash a little on my fingers and then smooth the liquid on my face. This method works because the consistency is milky rather than watery. It would be perfect if Paula offered this in a spray bottle. My rating is actually 4-1/2 stars. When I can get it in a spray, I'll rate it a true 5 stars!

Great Product Line
This review applies to many of the products in this line. I really like them, they don't irritate my middle-aged, acne prone skin. My only complaint (and my husband even noticed)is that it the bottles are so opaque that you don't know when you are about to run out. So, we have run out of some products without reordering. Please fix...Customer Care Response: Products packaged in clear (instead of opaque) containers allow state-of-the-art ingredients such as antioxidants to breakdown within weeks (or days, depending on the formula). We will contain to use opaque packaging to ensure the efficacy of our products.

Great toner
I was a little worried about trying this product, because I have oily and acne prone skin. I am surprised to say that my fears were unwarranted. So far so good. The toner is very calming and my sensitive skin draws it right in.

Absolutely THE BEST!!!
I ordered this toner with the slight hesitation and concern that it would just be another overpriced toner that ends up either stinging my skin or making me break-out. Well...was I WRONG!! This instantly calmed my skin and made the redness and dryness disappear! It left my skin smooth, plump and with a nice clean, matte finish. My skin already looks better! Not for me
I was excited to try this toner and had been looking for something to actively resist the signs of aging. The first week or so of using this product was good, and I was using it reguarily. However, after a short amont of time, my skin started to become very irritated, especially around my eye area. I thought it might have been some makeup I was using, so I eliminated some eyeshadows and such out of my routine to see if it made a difference. It didn't, so I stopped using the toner to see if my face would improve. At this point, it was very dry around my eyes, and sooooooo itchy. Stopping the toner worked. I really didn't want to believe that this Paula product was causing weird skin irritations for me, so I tried a tiny bit of it again last night before bed, under my eye area since this stuff is supposed to help with wrinkles. Well, I woke up today with the most swollen eyes I've ever had, talk about irritation! I really wanted this product to work for me considering the great reviews, but unfortunately there must be something in it that doesn't agree with my skin. Into the trash it goes! skin saving toner
Love this, everything about it is perfect! It's the ONLY thing I've found that calms my sensitive skin & it works wonders. Too much wasted with a pad, use your hands to apply. But, I've been upset since it was out of stock for so long (I really needed this for reactive skin). Out of stock items seem to be frequent with PC. I had just placed an order before this became available again, so I wasted shipping costs on previous order. There should be compensation for out of stock products. Glad it's back in, I ordered more for fear I'll run out again!

This aggravated my seborrheic dermatitis quite badly. Apparently oleic acid is (allegedly) a no-no for SD. Still a lovely toner...I'll be using as a body spray.

Unheard of! A toner that moisturizes!
I hadn't used toner since the days of Sea Breeze when I was a teen, so I "knew" I didn't want that for my dry, sensitive skin. However, I wanted to try the whole Resist line, so I gave it a try. No sting, no tightness, just a soothing liquid which brings my skin back to softness after cleansing. I tend to read while doing the skin care routine, so I'm not paying a lot of attention to what I'm doing. I would always remember that it was time to apply moisturizer because of the uncomfortable tight and dry feeling of my skin after washing. Now, after using Paula's Resist Toner, my skin feels relaxed and balanced, so I've been known to wander away, book in hand, with my skin care routine only half completed, since my skin wasn't reminding me to add more products. Wonderful product, Paula!! I'm a believer!

I'm 47 & have allergic, sensitive, acne & blackhead prone combination skin. I apply this product at night after cleansing. It doesn't irritate my eye area & seems to help with itchiness & redness in my eye area & face. It's not a heavy or oily feeling product. I will continue to purchase this product. When it comes available again I will likely purchase two to stock up in case of another long period of unavailability. Any chance of a deal for those of us waiting for that email notification of availability???

This toner is wonderful. I've been using the whole line as each product came out and my skin has never been better. I was using the hydrating line at PC, but switched to this. I'm 57 and people are really surprised. My skin glows. I just wish they'd add the spray to the bottle - much easier.

I have used this new Resist Toner for a week. The results are truly amazing! I love Paula's Skin Balancing and Healthy Skin Toners, but this one gets the Gold Star Award! It calms any redness after shaving, hydrates my dry patches, and doesn't make my oily/combination/acne prone skin worse. This is without question, the BEST toner I have used and know of. Soothing!
I have rosacea and very sensitive skin and my skin is raw and flaky all winter. I called Paula's Choice for help and was very surprised when the rep suggested a toner, I thought toners were harsh and drying. Wrong! It is immediately soothing. I've been using it for about a week and my skin looks and feels GOOD! At the same time I started using RESIST hydrating cleanser and moisturizer. This is the first winter that my skin has ever looked good. So worth it!

Heaven in a bottle !
If I could, I would rate this product 6 stars ! This toner has everything someone with sensitive/reactive skin could dream of : nice slip on skin to prevent friction/irritation, slightly thickened milky texture to allow cottonpad or fingers application (without the toner running through fingers), powerful soothing and instant redness vanishing. So moisturizing that it's exactly what is needed when the RESISt Barrier Repair Moisturizer is not enough during colder months, and exactly what an oily skin needs as a sole moisturizer during hotter months. The bottle is smaller than usual, but this toner contains so many antioxidants and cell-communicating ingredients that a larger bottle wouldn't be a good idea as these ingredients could loose their effectiveness as air gets inside the bottle. I couldn't live without it anymore :-)

surprising, excellent!
I'm quite surprised how FAST this toner worked for me. I didn't expect much, because I always thought toners were just for getting rid of trace dirt and makeup. This toner is different. After using it for a week, my very oily skin was less greasy. My sensitive skin had become MUCH calmer and less red. Overall, my skin color and texture looks noticeably better. I'm 100% sold on this excellent product.

Ultimate Toner
I tried both this and the companion cleanser and they are both standouts in Paula's impressive skincare lineup. Quite frankly, I've never bothered with toners because Paula's cleaners clean beautifully on their own. However, my dry skin gets a wonderful moisturer boost from this new product so it's earned a place in my skincare routine. Nothing like it anywhere at any price! Love it!

Can't Resit!
I decided to give this toner and the new cleanser a try. I normally have combination skin leaning towards oily, but as Im getting older and with winter here, its dry and tight and I was looking older than ever! I love the way they make my skin feel. The tightness is not there and I look like me again! Worth every penny! Im so glad I came across Paulas Choice 5 yrs ago. This is the ultimate skin care line. Paula has raised the bar- AGAIN!
I bought this the first day it came out, and am completely wowed. Instantly calms my complexion and reduces redness. Hasn't been a problem at all for my acne-prone skin; in fact, I really think this is helping (the linoleic acid perhaps?). So far, this is my favorite of Paula's toners. The results are more immediately visible than with the Hydralight toner, and leaves my skin with a more dreamy-matte finish than the Skin Balancing toner. I think it's worth the extra cost for this remarkable formula and ultra-light-proof packaging.

My oily skin nevertheless experiences seasonal dryness and also dryness caused by over-zealous acne control and exfoliaton.
The new RESIST Cleanser and this toner are the perfect solution when my skin is feeling tight and uncomfortable, without being overly moisturizing.
At first I was disappointed that the RESIST line seemed to be aimed at normal-to-dry skin, but have found that many of the products are ideal for me in the Winter months.

What do toners "tone"? I thought Paula didn't recommend toners!
Paula has always recommended toners that are well-formulated. Toners can be a great after-cleansing step to be sure you've removed all your makeup. When properly formulated, they soothe skin and provide an extra dose of antioxidants and repairing ingredients.
