This potion works! Takes time, so you have to be patient. But after a few weeks, my little freckles (age spots) were noticeably lighter than before I started. I'm still using it in hopes that they will disappear altogether. I rub a little on my elbows, too.

A great product
I think this is a great product. I'm very fair-skinned, and grew up in the tropics long before anyone knew about sun damage. Five decades later, I had one very large dark spot on my cheek and several other smaller ones sprinkled all over my face, as well as freckles. After about eight weeks of twice daily use, the large dark spot started to fade, and it's now nothing more than a diffuse discolouration that is easily hidden under decent foundation. Most of my freckles are almost gone, and the other dark spots are fading. This is after about three months. I've incorporated it into my Resist skincare regime, and my skin really looks and feels wonderful.I'm going to try it on my chest and forearms next.

I am in my late 60's and had dark spots on my hands. Very aging. I used this lotion as directed for 2 months before I noticed any improvement. My spots have faded to almost gone and I am ordering my second tube.

horrible smell
I've been using this for a few weeks now and the smell gets worse and worse. I don't know if I got an old tube or what because other reviews say the smell is pleasant. Haven't noticed any change in my skin but it may be too soon to tell. It's too bad there is no way I can keep using this because the smell even repels my husband! And it's not worth paying shipping and insurance to send it back. Why have a 100% gaurantee if you pay just as much in shipping to send it back. A huge bummer. I couldn't believe it! I know this is hard to believe but overnight I saw improvement. I am African American...I have several dark spot on my face from tweezing and then using a cream hair remover. I used this product ONE NIGHT and I could see improvement..

make the spot worse
i tried this for over a week now and i noticed that the spots became darker everyday even though i use my sun scream spf 60 i dont understand i use it at night not morning and break my skin out this is horrible i love Paula stuff but diff not this i cant believe my spot got much noticeable and darker Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. Ok...not sure it worked
I've finally finished a full tube (I alternated with the BHA/Hydroquinone tube, with same comments for that one), and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I did not notice any fading at all in brown spots :( I like the consistency, the smell, but the product seemed to be a wasted step for me. I have just about finished a tube with little or no results; this makes me wary of purchasing other Resist products. Great for scars!
This is a great product! I am 22 years old with hip and knee replacements which created huge scars so I try everything to fade them. I started using Paulas lightening product and have notice a difference in my scars after a month. It would be wonderful if Paula could create a product specifically for scars! didn't lighten, but didn't hurt
A few years ago I tried the previous incarnation of the hydroquinone product, which didn't work. So I was hoping that the new Resist formulation would maybe work better. I went through the whole tube, and unfortunately didn't see any results whatsoever. I rated it a 2, as it certainly didn't hurt my oily sensitive skin, but it did not lighten my brown spots at all. Havent' noticed a difference

You Won't Believe How Well It Works
I am a huge fan of Paula's team and her products, but this one in particular was worth writing a review about. I am in my forties with have fair skin with typical freckles and some age spots on my hands and chest. The dermatologist had originally planned to freeze some off. I tried the Skin Lightening Lotion on top of using the 10% AHA Body Lotion for a week. The dermatologist told me it wasn't worth freezing off my spots and to keep using what I had been using! I would also like to try the Lightening Gel with BHA because my decolletage has rosacea and the AHA makes it react, whereas the BHA makes it very calm and lovely.

I couldn't BELIEVE it WORKS
I'm not sure why this wouldn't work for some, but let me tell you, I'm the biggest skeptic on earth. I didn't really want to pay for another "miracle" spot remover - but ladies, this stuff works. It took several weeks, so be patient, but I have some tough brown spots from living in the Caribbean my whole life, and they are distracting. They are practically invisible now. I was religious about application, and yes, the skin shows pink because it's working - don't let that bother you. This stuff is highly recommended by me. Try it.

Nothing remarkable about it.
I have waisted over 8 months with this product.
I have redness from broken capillaries and lots of sun damage. Because there is not much do can do about broken cappilaries, I have decided to put up a little fight with the sun damage. I have used this product for about two months, did not see any effects, but knowing that you have to wait much longer I thought it was ok. Then I came across Neostrata HQ and deicided to give it a try. After 4 month the change was unbelieveable. The discoloration has gone down at least twice. So, after running out of that I deicided to give Paula's Choice another try. Here are the results after 6,5 months. My skin is rough like never before. The redness and discoloration have come back with a vengeance. I have more broken cappilaries. My face has never looked so bad before... I threw away the rest of it and I am waiting for a new tube of Neostrata, hoping to reverse some of the damage this lotion has done. What a waist of time... I am definitely done with Paula's Choice. Works great.
I have been using this lotion for about a month now. I can see visible results in the way my skin looks. Its not fast, but it does the job for me. The 7% AHA does sting at times, but stops quickly. All in all it works very well for me.

Tried it for a year

Works...Proceed with Caution
This works to lighten spots but I had to tweak how I applied. When applied at night over my nightly aha exfoliant I had a reaction on my chin (it looked liked what I imagine one's skin would look like after tattoo removal). Then I tweaked application: wherever I applied the lightener with aha, I would NOT apply my other aha exfoliant. This worked to lighten without a reaction. It seems like this should be in the directions...but then again maybe this was unique just to me. FYI I currently use the aha lightener at night and the bha lightener during the day. The bha lightener feels milder on my skin. In the future I will probably use the bha lightener only, for both day and night.

I love Paula's Resist line, but this product just isn't working for me. After reading the many reviews, some claiming almost miraculous results, I had to give it a try. I have a number of small brown spots on my nose, which really bug me, and a larger brown spot on the side of my face(all the result of sun damage). It definitely lightened my sun spots on my face and chest. But you do need to be realistic in your expectations of any lightening product. The spots don't go away, but they did lighten, some more than others. This product also seems to make my skin look better - maybe the 7% AHA.

This is my go-to lotion, I am 48 and get many compliments on my skin -- NOW. Used twice a day initially, didn't think about it, just kept using it, and about a month later, realized that flakiness was GONE, skin seemed younger smoother softer. I use it once a day now, before bed. (also, for anyone looking for youthful-looking skin, there is no substitute for a exercise -- get your blood flowing, work up a good sweat! and drink plenty of water. this will clear impurities out of your system/skin. and it's free!)

Nice exfoliant but No fading
I was really excited to try this cream as all the products of Paula's have been amazing. This one, however is a letdown. As an exfoliant it works nicely, but it did not live up to the claim to lighten brown spots. I used this religiously day and night for 2 1/2 months and had no lightening of my spots. Too strong for my sensitive skin
I bought this product based on the great reviews but unfortunately the dark spots I used it on burnt my face. I suppose my skin is too sensitive for the 7% AHA. great daily exfoliant / fade product
I use this all over my face rather than as a spot treatment, as I don't want to have to incorporate another exfoliant, and being that I'm freckled I can use the fading all over. A little goes a long way. I love that it's a 7% acid, which I think is just right for daily use and keeps my skin super smooth. In the past I have used 4% hydroquinone products (this is a 2%), but I feel like I'm getting the same result as I did from the other line I used (Obagi from the dr. office) which was like 5 times the price. Definitely Worked
My son purchased this item for me and I felt compelled to try it for his sake. I even took before and after pictures. However, I did not need to see those pictures to almost immediately notice a difference. The only down side is that the lightening is not permanent and you have to keep using it. I am now on my third tube, but truly do not mind.

Modest Improvement
I switched to the lotion version after using the gel for a year or so. My spots are most likely due to hormone changes, but continual use of this lotion has made it much easier to cover up large melasma patches over my cheekbones and forehead. If you stop using lotion, the spots get darker. I'm careful to avoid sunny windows indoors. Wearing a hat destroys my curly hair, but I'm going to do that this summer hoping that the results will improve.

Did not work
After applying this product it would leave a sticky, dry glue like residue on my skin. It did not work for me. Other than that I'm very happy with Paula's Choice products even my husband likes to use Resist moisturizer.

Difficulty - Resist Skin Lightening
First of all, truly am happy with many of the other Paula's Choice products I use, but this lightening lotion didn't work much at all?!
I stopped using it for awhile and thought to try again. The expiration isn't until 5/12, and I noticed the lotion turned brown?! I don't remember it turning brown. I'm going to try another lightener from P'sC, and see if that works better. The formula is still effective but we will process a full refund for you in the meantime. This product has to be applied every day and you have to apply and re-apply sunscreen every day as well for the best results. Results will be noticeable in a couple months with consistent use. Didn't work for me
I love Paula's products but a few from the Resist line just didn't agree with my skin unfortunately.
This was one of those products. I did not like the smell. I found that I needed to apply at night as it didn't blend well with my foundation in the morning. I also experienced some irritation on my cheeks after alternating this product one night with the daily smoothing treatment with 5% AHA the next night. I have sensitive skin and I think that it was recommended to alternate if that was the case.) It looked like I was breaking out in zits on my cheeks (closer to the apples) though they were not zits. I stopped using both products and they went away quickly.
I'm not sure which of the two products irritated my skin. I've just stopped using both. I love the remaining products in the Resist line. I have not been using this product long, so not sure about the lightening effects yet,but love how soft and smooth my skin feels.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is the opening is too large, so very hard not to dispense way too much. Other than that, great!

I LOVE this product because it works so well. I just rub it in on the places with the brown spots and they significantly lightened the 1st week. Of course, I use a sun block over those same places when I go outside from then on because those are the spots where the sun usually causes the spots. IT WORKS!!
I had some skin discoloration on my cheekbones which occurred during my two pregnancies as a result of hormones/sun. After one month of applying this product, the sun spots are almost gone. I also applied it to a pimple that has been hanging around my chin for months (4 to be precise) and it has also faded significantly. Thank you Paula for delivering on your promise. By the way, my best friend saw a dermatologist about some dark spots on her forehead and cheeks (also occurred during pregnancy) and he told her nothing works...perhaps I should tell him about Paula's Choice!

Very happy with this product for maintenance after Obagi regimen. My skin looks good for my age (over 65) but still needs exfoliation and spot skin lightening. I use this combination product in the evening, alternating with retin A. One night a week I use Paula's 10% AHA. This routine has been great for maintaining skin tone, moisture, and fading sun spots.

I have had a LARGE, DARK melasma patch smack dab in the middle of my forehead for years, as well as smaller patches on my upper lip and cheeks. I have tried many other (expensive) products with absolutely NO results. I've been using this for about 3 weeks and can see that the melasma is finally fading!!! What a great product at a great price. I am so happy with this product! (I notice it is on sale now -- I certainly hope that doesn't mean it will be discontinued). MUST TRY!
I am so blown away by the quality of Paula's products! This is one of my "can't live without" skin care products that I just adore. I had pretty bad sun damage especially on my forehead and cheek area. It kinda creeped up out of nowhere and was pretty much impossible to cover w/makeup w/o looking cakey. This has made a HUGE difference in the appearance of my blotchiness and freckling. The smell that some have complained about is so not an issue IMO and far better than other products I have used that didn't work nearly as good. Absorbs nicely too! A must try if you've tried everything to no avail! TRY TRY TRY !!!! Thank you Paula! Love all your stuff!

I spoke with my OBGYN in reference to the dark spots on my skin above my upper lip. It looked horrible and I was very self conscious about it. Even make up wouldn't cover it up. I suspected it was caused by the birth control I was taking and quit taking it is not an option. I didn't want to use the prescription strength skin lightening creams because they have topical steroids in them and I had previously had an adverse reaction to steroids. My doctor took me to this website and recommended this lotion. At first I did feel a slight burning sensation when I began using it but applying moisturizer on top of it helped a lot and now it doesn't bother me very much at all. It is important to follow with a moisturizer with SPF to prevent sensitivity to the sun. This cream however had made a tremendous difference! It did take a little longer than recommended- about 8 weeks for me to begin seeing a difference and if I stop using it then the dark spots will return, however I am still taking the birth control as well. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

Works surprisingly quickly
I recently started using a tube of Paula's skin lightening lotion that I bought a few years ago, and it wasn't working -- I probably stored it in conditions that were too hot or too cold. I just got a free sample of this to give a fresh start, and it's working very quickly to lighten a pea-sized sun spot that I've developed over the past year. I'm really impressed, thanks.

Paula's skin lighterners are the BEST!
I've been using Paula's regular skin lightener for years, very happily. Work better on age spots caused by sun damage than anything I've ever tried. Even the doctor was surprised that one large spot bleached out as much as it did (they will never disappear, but they can fade). I'm quite sure this product will be just as good, if not better.

Just need to add my praise for this product. I cannot speak for long term results yet, it's only been a little over a week, but this is first lightening product that really seems to agree with my skin. I had tried an Rx that seemed to flake my skin and seemed to offer little benefits or results. Questioning Ingredients
So far, is producing good results after three months. But I just realized this contains phenoxyethanol which is a xenoestrogen. Trying to eliminate these from my daily use. Wish this came with a safer preservative.

small price huge results
I was 31 when I started using this product. Stress had started break outs on my face, that were not traditional in nature. The dermatologist said I had mild rosacea and prescribed an antibiotic cream for my face, which was very expensive. I started using this product and the break outs not only went away, but my skin glows. I've used this product for about a year and a half. Believe me ladies, it still works as fabulously as it did in the beginning! Fuss-free, big impact.

This stuff is great!
I'm using it on my arms and chest. It's lightening my sun-related dark spots and the AHA is really improving the overall texture of my skin. I just wish it came in a larger package - 2 oz is fine for the face, but I go through it pretty quickly using it on my body (even though I'm careful not to use too much).

bright red
This made my skin bright red for some reason. I love all of the other Paula products i have tried and have never had any problems but this one just didn't agree with my skin =( Too harsh i suppose.

Love it!
I had started noticing brown spots on my face a couple of months ago. Started using this and saw a difference in two weeks. Spots are almost gone at 3.5 weeks. Fine lines are gone and my skin is clearer. Two days with blackheads, then completely clear skin. 10 years gone!

Not for me
I have never had a problem with sensitive skin but this caused considerable irritation. I stopped using it for a week, then tried again. Now my face is a mess. I am a long-time fan of Paula and her products, so I am very surprised. I have used her AHA, BHA, and skin lightening products before without any problem. But this formula does not agree with me.

Bring back old formula!
This formula now has an AHA that made the back of my hands burn and peel. The old formula was great! I know that I can put it on only once a day and my hands will not burn or peel, but I do wash my hands sometimes and at that rate these brown spots will never go away. With the old formula I could reapply after washing my hands. This one I can't. I'm sure this formula may work, but at this rate it will take FOREVER! I have the AHA gel and if I wanted to use that I could and would have! I don't need it in this.

The Best!
This product is fantastic for skin like mine. I am 58 and have lots of sun damaged patches on my face and forehead. This lotion (after 3 months) has made my face look smooth and the dark patches have faded. I did peel a bit after first using it, but it is the only thing I use now except for sunscreen and blush. I hardly need make-up anymore.

One of My Favourites!
Before this product came out I had used the Lightening Cream and 7% AHA together - and they worked great. Now I have them in one easy to use product! I am currently using a prescription 6% hydroquinon cream for my facial discolouration, but I continue to use Paula's product on my forearms and hands to keep sun damage away. Even if I use sunscreen, by the Fall my arms have discoloured. This formulation helps keep it minimal during the summer and removes it over the winter months. I use it twice a day with no problem - even when I was using it on my face. Thank you Paula for another wonderful product!

Excellent product
I suffer from Melasma and this is the only OTC product I have ever tried (and trust me, I've spent a small fortune!) that actually works. It takes a while longer than the prescription strength version (I see some results after 2-3 wks, best after 6wks) and I usually use it every day in the summer to maintain my skin. As a bonus it also deals with any acne pretty well. The prescription stuff absolutely ripped my skin to shreds, and the dermo told me I'd have to do that 3 months of the year, every year to keep my Melasma under control...forget that!! Now my skin isn't perfectly even toned (who's is?!) but it's close enough for me to be happy with it. Paula, thank you so much for producing a product that is honest!

It did start to improve the brown splotches on my forehead, but soon after I started breaking out on my cheeks and forehead with gross whiteheads....

Great Texture but not for me
This product has an elegant cream/gel texture that is simply a pleasure to use. However my skin never react well with AHA product and this is no exception. After using this for a few days I brokout out with lots of whiteheads everywhere, which is very typical for me when using an effective AHA product. Since then I switched to the BHA version of Resist and have been very happy with the result. I will still recommend this product to anyone who can tolerate AHA well. The texture is perfect for normal to oily/acne prone skin. Dry skin may need some additional moisturizer on top.

A Must Have!
Paula, you have outdone yourself again. I love this product. Its another fantastic addition to the Resist line. I used to use the AHA gel and the skin lightener product separately. This combined product is much faster, the smooth lotion texture is great and I love the new packaging. WOW! I am amazed at how efficient this cream is. I've spent in excess of $400 on microdermabrasion in order to clear up some patchy discoloration on my cheeks. For best results, do not use hydroquinone (the active ingredient in our RESIST Skin Lightening Lotion & Gel) and benzoyl peroxide (the active ingredient in our CLEAR Acne Fighting Treatments) at the same time. A temporary dark staining of the skin may occur. If accidentally used together, wash the skin with soap and water to remove the staining.
Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.
What is the difference between the RESIST Remarkable Skin Lightening Lotion and RESIST Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening Gel?
The main differences are texture (gel vs. lotion) and the type of exfoliant included in the formula. RESIST Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening Gel was designed with normal to oily skin in mind, so it contains salicylic acid (BHA) which is preferred over AHAs for that skin type. RESIST Remarkable Skin Lightening Lotion contains glycolic acid and is ideal for someone with normal to dry skin.
Can I use an AHA or BHA in combination with either one of the skin lighteners? Using an additional exfoliant may not be necessary with either skin-lightening product, because both already contain them. However, if you prefer, you can alternate use of one of our AHA or BHA products with either skin lightener.
I have heard/read from sources that hydroquinone is carcinogenic (cancer-causing) and the FDA wants to ban it. What does Paula think of that? Paula has written about this topic on her Web site and in her books, but the summation is that the negative research about hydroquinone and the frightening assertions being levied in the media are not related to how this effective ingredient is used in skin-care products sold in the United States.
