great toner for oily skin
I am 40 with oily skin, and had been using the hydralight toner, which works fine. I wanted to try this toner because of the "pore-reducing claims," and I am so glad I did! My face has been less shiny-looking, and some tiny bumps I kept getting high on my forehead are gone.
This toner, together with my favorite product, 2% BHA liquid, seem to be a winning combination for my skin. Thank you, Paula!

Will not re-purchase
It's like putting water on your face. It doesn't hydrate and makes my oily cheeks dry and flaky. I've seen no difference in my pore size or any positive difference in my skin. It just made my skin worse. Going back to my Resist toner and the Skin Balancing toner will have to collect dust in my cabinet. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your comments. FAVORITE PRODUCT
This is an outstanding toner! I never used toners before, but this just glides on my skin so well and really prepares my skin for sunscreen. I try to keep my skin care routine simple, and I find this is a multi-purpose product, providing antioxidants, reducing oil production, and shrinking the appearance of pores. All in one product! Plus, the niacinamide in this really does the trick--there must be a high percentage, perhaps at least 3-4%!

First Toner
I just started to use this toner and this is what I found out. Although its fragrance free, this toner smells of lemongrass to me, and where I come from lemongrass is used as a natural insect repellent. Second, sting would be over dramatic, but the toner does tingle when I am using it. Other than that, I guess it will take time to see since I have only applied it twice! Not quite what i expected
I have been using this toner for over 3 weeks now and I gotta say, im dissapointed. I bought this product based off the reviews and because I liked some other Paula's Choice products but this one let me down. Upon the first couple uses I noticed no real change but after continuing i started to break out in places I never have before So i discontinued use. Its disappointing because these products with shipping are not very cheap so its hard to pay for something that is counter-productive. Wish I would have waited for the new packaging!
The good news, I think this is a wonderful treatment product! It took a few days, but it really seems to be evening out the texture of my combo skin. My pores seem slightly tighter and any flakies that I may have do seem smoothed. It's gentle and dries down nice and soft on the skin. The bad news? I purchased my bottle before the new packaging, and unfortunatly for me, I have lost quite a bit from the leaky lid! In fact on my second time using it I pored almost half the bottle onto my bathroom counter.:( Hopefully the new packaging is better! Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review! not what i needed
this was noted as helping to clear flaking skin shrink pores. i figured with the AMAZING ingredients it had to be 99% better than the rest of the toners out there, which usually have alcohol, fragrance and colors as their main ingredients. Unfortunately this did nothing for my flaking skin. It horribly overdried it! i was left with a very tight feeling and needed to immediately put a moisturizer afterwards. A toner is usually used after cleansing as well, and after removing make up i would sometimes wipes this over my closed eyes and it burned awfully. not quite sure why, but i have stopped using it. it goes FAST too! less than a month and it's almost gone (2x a day). A surprising essential!
I am a big fan of using as few skincare products as possible. I've avoided toners over the years because I felt like they were never worth the time and effort (or caused more damage than help). However, the PC Skin Balancing Toner has been wonderful for my skin. After I added it to my PC routine, I noticed that my other products applied more smoothly and evenly, and I do think it's helped reduce pore size some. It's hard to say, because I am using other PC products with a similar claim. So, while I don't know what the individual impact of this product is, it has worked very, very well with the other products I am using. My face is absolutely transformed from six weeks ago - from rough, oozing acne all over my cheeks to unbelievably soft skin, very little acne, and fading red marks.

Excellent toner!
I feel like Paula's toners are not really traditional "toners" but more like less-intensive TREATMENT products. Great ingredients like niacinamide (I'm a fan), ATP, and antioxidants are in here. I don't use a cotton ball -- I just splash this on in the morning. The bottles are so big, I feel I can use a good amount daily and the product lasts and lasts. I have very oily skin, and this is "invisible" treatment - meaning it leaves no oily or filmy residue on my skin and doesn't interfere with what I put on next. Paula's toners are the unsung heroes in her line, I think.

Nothing special
I bought this based on the great reviews, but alas it didn't do anything for my skin. It goes on lightly and is not drying for sure and makes your skin feel good, but after a couple of months, it hasn't done anything for my skin. Just as I said about this toners matching cleanser, there aren't enough words to describe how fabulous it really is!! Keeps my sensitive and acne prone skin free of breakouts and so soft. Other products dry my skin out and still cause breakouts, but not this one. A must have in my daily skin are routine !!

Too Drying
I have combination skin and really thought this product would be right for me. Unfortunately it lead to my skin being very dry and flaky. Great
Best toner I ever used. You really can't use it too much. My skin feels clean, not irritated, not too taught, and the cotton pad shows all the left overs it picked up. Bottle doesn't travel well though so I recommend transferring it to a more secure bottle before taking it on a plane. The reviews for the Resist toner looked even better so I might give that a try next time.

Light and non drying
i love this toner. i have had sooo many issues with skin care products. this toner is so light and non drying. it is the ONLY toner i have found that is not either drying or oily. i used to use this in place of moisturizer until i found paulas choice moisturizers

Rosacea
I have suffered from Rosacea for almost 10 years. About two years ago a friend recommended Paula's Choice products. I bought the original line for Combination/Oily skin for Rosacea, but over time have tried other PC products and have to say that this toner is by far the best for my skin. I assume it is the Niacinamide that works for me, so I can't understand why the Hydralight toner is recommended instead. Nevertheless, this is a great product for oily skin with rosacea. Combined with the Hydralight Cleanser and Skin Balancing Moisture Gel, my rosacea is under control. And every time I get sucked in to buying another so-called "miracle" product to help my rosacea, I end up coming back to Paula's Choice because it is the only thing that doesn't irritate my skin. Nice work Paula!

Refreshing!
Although this toner isn't supposed to be geared toward my skin type (normal to slightly dry), I find it works beautifully for me. It refreshes my skin and really balances out my complexion. I am guessing it's because of the niacinamide. I found when I added it to my skin care routine, my complexion became much more even tone. It feels so refreshing when I use it immediately after cleansing (Moisure Boost Cleanser) - I pour a small amount in the palm of my hand and wipe it all over my face, around my eyes and down my neck. I was one who never really used a toner but after using this for a few weeks, I will never be without it.

The Ultimate Toner
This toner is the only non-drying one I have found...it is effective on my combination skin in doing just what it says: balancing the skin's moisture levels. It doesn't burn and the amount of product in the bottle impressed me for the price! A+, love it, even love the smell of it!

Amazing Unique Toner
You will not find much toners that are actually free of alochol, fragrance, essential oils and coloring agents. Also you would not find many toners that have a great deal of antioxidants, skin identical ingredients and light hydrators.
This seems the perfect toner.
In one word AMAZING. This is such a nice product. Sometimes, when I don't like to put on a lotion or a cream that day, I use just this and apply it with my hands. It is actually hydrating my skin without feeling i have product on.

Glad I kept looking!
I have tried most of PC Toners including the Hydralight toner which is one recommend for combo skin like mine. However, my skin has an immediate reaction to that toner.After realizing that some PC products have varying amounts of Green Tea extract in them, I looked again at the ingredients in Toners. Glad this one does NOT have Green Tea Extract!! YAY! I really like this toner. My skin is looking better.

Satisfied for many years
Can't help wondering if the people who don't like Paula's products are part of the new trend to get paid for giving bad reviews? And who cares if you think I am fake or not. I've been using Paula's Choice for many years now and never had issues with any of her products. They have been the answer to a life-long struggle to attain beautiful, healthy skin. For those of you who find the reviews confusing, just try her products. If you don't like it, send it back...you have nothing to lose. And if you are one of those unfortunates who has a terrible reaction, all I can say is if Paula's products don't work for you then nothing will...stick with water.

No Fake - It Really Works
I use this tonic for a year now, finished 2 bottles, and urgently need more! It is great, my skin is toned, fresh and does look younger. I use it on the entire face with combination with 2% BHA liquid for my forehead, nose and cheeks. I previously had enlarged pores, pimples all around and started to see lines, the worst condition women fear to face. Now I get compliments on my skin SO often! LOVE IT!!! My pores look so small, my skin looks young and clear, I never had such clear forehead. And lines faded a bit. Off course, I do have an occasional breakout here and there, but this is nothing. MUST HAVE!!!

real review on amazing product
I do not usually write reviews, but felt compelled after reading the review titled "fake reviews". If you do not like the product or it did not work for your skin, fine. Not all products work for everyone. If they did there would not be so many different formulations. But fake reviews? Really? I am sure it happens on some sites, but I assure you I am a real person with real skin, and this is a real review. ;)
I have used this toner for nearly 2 months. Initially I purchased a sample and liked it so much I purchased the full size. I really appreciate the fact that you can purchase samples of each and every item to determine if it suits your skin before committing to a full size. In this economy everyone is on a budget and even if I can return an item that doesn't quite work for me, it is much easier to try a sample than go through the return process, especially if I have to pay for shipping again. I do wish the toner were ph balanced to my skin, but if waiting a few minutes before finishing my skin care regimine is the only drawback I can handle that, as this is a fantastic toner. It does not make my skin sting, dry, or red like most toners do. I use this toner twice a day and use 2% bha liquid at night (alternating every other night with another glycolic acid exfoliator). My skin has never looked better. I no longer have clogged pores and my pores look tiny (which has NEVER been the case). I have found a keeper with this skin balancing toner and will continue to use this with my skin care regimine.

Finally, a well-priced toner that doesn't burn
This is a keeper. I've only found one other toner that I was happy with, and it was three times more expensive! It's well-balanced and prepares my skin for moisturizers and serums like it should. Don't know if it's supposed to reduce pore size, but nothing does that for me, so I don't factor that into anything anymore.

A real find for combination skin
I bought this after using and loving the Skin Recovery Toner last winter. It's an awesome product for people who want to add some extra antioxidants to their skin care routine without adding irritation, fragrance or heaviness. Feels good, but breakouts galore
This products feels good - it's very soothing - but makes me breakout like crazy. I thought maybe it was a coincidence (that is, I was about to break out anyway), but I've tried it multiple times over a couple of years, and so there can be no mistake now, this stuff really wreaks havoc with my skin (which take a couple of months to clear and heal EACH time, arrgh). If you have dry, sensitive, blemish-prone skin and are worried about trying a toner geared more towards the oily skin set, please try this! It is gentle, non-drying and non-irritating (for me) and works great under serum and moisturizer. I have noticed my skin is much clearer since I have added it to my routine while remaining nicely hydrated. It absorbs well and has an inoffensive kind of nutty smell to it. The only con is that (as others have noted) sometimes the rubber part that dispenses the liquid gets caught in the cap, so I do pay attention now before tipping my bottle over!

Great stuff
This is a very nice toner. I've never used any of the other PC toners. I'm not sure I consider this essential to my skincare regime, like say the BHA acid, but it leaves my skin feeling fresh. At first, there's even a bit of a... not quite burning sensation. It's pleasant, whatever it is. All in all another very nice product to use.

Skin Balancing Toner Changed My Skin
I just wanted to let you know that your Skin Balancing Toner has changed my skin. I've always had blemish-prone skin and used BHAs and benzoyl peroxide treatments. They helped but didn't eliminate my breakouts. Very frustrated with cystic acne spots on my cheeks, I read the reviews for your toner and ordered it with the other blemish products. Keeps skin in check
This toner is amazing. It preps my skin for BHA, moisturizer, and serum. I have very dry skin but do break out once in a while so it makes my skin feel extra clean before applying heavy duty creams. Love it!

Best Toner Yet!
This has been the best toner I've tried yet! Most are extremely drying on my skin and leave dry patches. But this helps keep my skin hydrated and my oil in check. I have noticed that if I use this after washing my face with Clean & Clear Medicated Cleanser (which is not a Paula's Choice product) it actually stings my face. But now I use Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser I have no stinging what-so-ever!

This toner is a dream. I have extremely sensitive skin with eczema and this does not irritate in any way..not even for a second. I need a little extra "something" to soak into the dry patches so this is perfect under my moisturizer, as well as being packed with all sort of good ingredients. I could even use this as a moisturizer on its one, depending on the weather and how my skin is behaving at the time. I am excited to try this with the spray nozzle as there will be much less product wasted (as opposed to soaking a cotton pad), and as well to use as a makeup fix to take away the powdery look.

prefer Healthy Skin Toner
My skin does not like this toner, and I experience breakouts when I use it. It's a mystery I don't understand, as this seems like it should be the perfect tonic. A PC customer service rep hypothesized that I could be reacting to the higher dose of antioxidants and more complex formula. In any case, I will be returning to the Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner which gives me great results and seems to suit my skin's needs better. Better than so many others .
when reading reviews its hard to tell if you personally will enjoy the product especially when a 1 star review is juxtaposed to a 5 star one seemingly contradicting each other. Ive decided that i wanted this product because it had niacinamide in it, to reduced the inflammation associated with acne. however i dont use this product consistently because i found zealous application would cause my skin to be flaky. in australia the prices arent as competitive as they are in the USA, but that isnt too much of an issue because this is lasting me a while. you should try this product while it can leave a residue on the skin its moisture binding properties can replace a moisturizer. I couple this with paulas choice 2% bha and while it is sticky when applied in the morning my skin is so comfortable. as apposed if i leave it with products my nose is oily and unpleasant.
when it comes down to the deciding factors most of what skin care provides is comfort this formula is fragrance free and alcohol free which so many other companies ruin perfectly good formulas with these ingredients. Paula and her team should really be praised for providing the option to escape this psychosis in the beauty industry.

Can't do without this
This past winter, my skin was incredibly flaky, dry, and irritated due to the cold weather and my use of Retin-a and benzoyl peroxide. I normally use Skin Balancing Moisturizer, but it wasn't enough this winter. So I tried some of the heaviest moisturizers by Paula and other brands, and the flaking remained. But then I tried the Skin Balancing Toner, and my flaking and dryness went away! I couldn't believe it. And it doesn't leave behind any oiliness or greasiness. I love this product and I really can't do without it.

I didn't know I needed this
I didn't think I really needed a toner, but I ordered a sample anyway. I am so glad I did. This helped to wipe away dry flakes I had before I applied makeup. It also leaves my skin soft and fresh. I really like this product. I wish I had purchased it sooner.

This is a great product. It leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized while removing any traces of makeup you might have missed. And it doesn't irritate my skin or leave any redness like other toners I have tried. My skin looks so much better with just a week of using Paula's cleanser and toner. Sorry, Paula. I did not like this at all. It seemed to dry out and flaked my skin. The only reason I gave it a 2 star was it's wonderful silkyness. I've noticed an annowing stinging and dryness that comes with alot of you skin balancing stuff.

My favourite PC product
After using this product for quite some time now, I decided it was finally time to leave a review. Don't worry, it's entirely favourable. When I first started using it, I noticed that it didn't sting or dry out my skin like alcohol-based toners, but other than that I wasn't sure what it was doing for my skin. Then a week later it hit me. My T-zone was noticeably less red, and my entire face was so soft. Now I get it. It's like a conditioner for the face. I tried the Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner for a while, but it just didn't seem to do as much for my skin, and I have since switched back to this one. I don't know what I would do without this product, so please never discontinue it.

Made me itch
This made my skin itch!!! Disappointing. Not convinced that a toner is a necessary step in skin care, but I use witch hazel mixed with glycerin (homemade). Very soothing.

I really don't know where come all these good reviews, I don't like this toner at all, it doesn't feel refreshing, and it leaves film of oilness, and it does not help acne treatment at all.

Toner Irritates My Skin
My daughter and I love Paula's products, however the Skin Balancing Toner is very irritating to my skin. It burns, turns my skin bright red, and then I breakout with red bumps.I would really like to know what ingredient is causing this problem. Based on several other reviews, it seems to be a recurring issue. I recently received a sample of the Skin Recovery toner and so far that is working much better. In fact, it feels really great on my skin!

Good toner
I have been a fan of Paula's for many years. I have always been disappointed that her cleansers and esp toners for combo skin would sting and make my face red. After much detective work I figured out I am sensitive to two ingredients that Paula uses frequently in her combo skin products. I like this toner as it does not make my face bright red and sting. I still get some slight redness but I am happy as my blackheads on my nose have really been reduced and the pores look much smaller too. I do suggest trying the sample sizes even if you spend several dollars for several samples, less is wasted than buying full size. If your skin likes it, great- buy full size. If not, you have not wasted a lot of money or product. JMHO.

Probably one of the best toners in the world...
This toner has helped heal my skin and add a wonderful mix of anti-oxidants! Using a cotton round/pad instead of a cotton ball makes a difference! Will continue to purchase

This toner has done right by me over the years, and I prefer it slightly to the healthy skin refreshing toner ever so slightly because it's as moisturizing (I already have oily skin to the max!). It isn't irritating, and my anti-acne regimen just isn't as effective when I accidentally run out of it.

Good Product
After applying this product, my skin feels smooth and glowing, but it seems to be temporary. I'm not sure what toner does and whether it is really necessary like exfoliator or night cream. I guess this is something nice you do to your skin.

I love PC products and have had great results for the past 6 years! So, I feel almost disloyal saying this, but I didn't like this and won't repurchase it. It felt a bit slick on my face and I had more problems breaking out with it compared to my old (discontinued PC toner). So, I have switched to Paula's Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner and much prefer it's texture, plus my skin is clear again. IMHO use that instead!

I really thaks for paulaschoice's cosmetic. After I used 1 week these, my skin is not oily and my pimples are gone! It is amazing! I'm an international student, so my english is nit good. Every man should own this product,
I used to get razor bumps--the bane of many of men. They came unpredictably, and even worse, they seemed to be resistant to everything, including Paula's Choice Razor Relief (which is probably a good product for some people, but it didn't work even slightly for me). Anyway, on a lark, I started using this product as an aftershave, and for the past two years, it's a very, very rare thing to get razor burn. My skin seems to have improved dramatically from this product (incidentally, I also love PC shaving gel).
I have been a devoted customer to this line for many years, and every now and then I try products in other lines that are recommended by Paula. I am frequently disappointed (though not always). Most of Paula's Choice products are unparalleled, and this is most definitely one of them.

Great Product
I have a combination skin, dry on my cheeks and oily on the T zone. for a long time I used a toner from a major beauty store (seph...)with no results. It was just water with some floral fragrance.
Now I use Paula's toner and I can see the difference. My skin feels soft, with an even tone and no more shine.

I have oily t zone and normal skin elsewhere. 1st use made my skin tingle. Parts of my face starts getting red with each use. By the 3rd to 4th day i broke out in various parts of my face.

Good toner
I'm not really sure what a toner is supposed to do... but this is a cool product. For some reason it has an exothermic reaction to my face, the first time I used it, it started to get hot as it dried! Anyway, it does a good job getting rid of the last traces of makeup, and when it 'dries' it leaves skin feeling nice and hydrated. Combined with the 8% AHA exfoliant and the Super Antioxidant Concentrate, my skin feels really good and supple.

Skin Balancing Toner
I tried this toner after my skin broke out and it cleared it up. It's all I use on my skin now after washing. My skin is dry on top and oily underneath. It makes my skin softer and keeps the breakouts and blackheads away! Please don't ever discontinue this product!

Skin Balancing toner

What do toners "tone"? I thought Paula didn't recommend toners!
Paula has always recommended toners that are well-formulated. Toners can be a great after-cleansing step to be sure you've removed all your makeup. When properly formulated, they soothe skin and provide an extra dose of antioxidants and repairing ingredients.
