After a referral from a friend, I got on the website that was designed to find everything I needed and was concerned about. I started by the awesome, friendly and quick online chat about my goals and their recommendations. I quickly ordered individual samples because the sample sets were out of stock"which sounds to me it's pretty popular. After the first use of the set, I felt immediate results, smooth silky skin. After the 2 and 3 trials, I noticed my skin to be dry like, tight and itchy. I emailed a rep and they so kindly responded the next day that they thought the 2%bha liquid was too much for me so sent me the 1% along more samples of others. I have since tried them again and have already noticed a change in my skin tone and texture and a brown sun spot that is lighter. I am now ordering my full set and can't wait for more results for smaller pores and much more!! I want to try the resist line too after trying a few different samples from them as well.

A little bit too drying
I'm 26 this year and have using this product as part of the Skin Balancing System.
Used in conjuction with the toner and BHA 1% liquid, my complexion improved markedly within a few days. I experienced smooth and clean-looking skin for a few days and was extremely pleased with the results.
However, a little more than a week later, my normally oily skin became tight and dry (even 9 to 10 hours upon initial application). It's rather surprising as I have had oily skin all my life. I experienced the same while using the Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion SPF 15 & Antioxidants.
I can't seem to figure out whether it's the moisturisers or BHA liquid that's causing the tightness. I'm even experiencing tiny flakes around my mouth (Not noticeable, unless scrutinised up-close)...
Nevertheless, I would continue using Paula's Choice. Possibly Hydralight (for day time usage) and RESIST Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator at night. What would you suggest? I bought this system recently after listening/reading Paula's reviews for a while. I have always had sensitive (eczema) skin and in recent years, I've noticed that has given way to occasional breakouts. Suffice it to say, I must be careful when choosing which products to use.
First of all, I must say thank you to Paula for the helpful guide/stickers which educated me on proper skin care routine. I had never figured out how/when to use exfoliants and serums before. That enlightenment alone may have made a big difference.
Now for the products themselves, I have been using them now for over a month and have definitely noticed smoother and more even skin tone. My acne scars haven't completely gone away yet, but at least I'm noticing less threats of breakouts. The darkness around my eyes too seem to have faded significantly and I barely need to use concealer anymore. My only teeny complaint is with the oil sheets. They don't seem to absorb very well and so I often end up having to using at least 2 or 3 sheets. I prefer another brand which comes from Japan - I've always only had to use one sheet and it gets the job done. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with this purchase and will likely check out Paula's other products soon. Thanks Paula and team!

SKIN BALANCING SYSTEM
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT SYSTEM FOR AGING AS WELL AS ACNE PRONE SKIN. I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH PUSTULES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AND I AM IN MY SIXTIES! THEY WERE TURNING INTO STAPH INFECTIONS. Great System But Not for my Skin Type
The reason I gave this system a 4 is because I have blemish prone skin, so enjoyed using the product but it really wasn't for my skin. It is great though... if you don't have breakouts and just want a great, simple, easy and healthy product for your skin this system is a must. I switched to the Clear Anti-Acne System... An Excellent System (Mostly)
I would have given this system 5 stars, however the toner causes my face to break out in small red bumps. My skin has had problems with toners made by other companies (except for a basic rosewater and glycerin). Now that I stopped using the toner, my skin looks fantastic! Disappointed
I've used the Skin Balancing Cleanser for years and love it, so I decided splurge on the whole system. I've given it at least five tries and have broken out every time! Amazing Products
At first I was trying Hydralight, but my face showed like always, i then tried the Skin Balancing Cleanser.. My skin felt in love.. Very smooth, even a day with make up, making it still fresh, not making it oily as other products.. Love it and I am going to get a complete set right now :)

best products out there
I first want to mention that i decided to wait to write my review on paula's products. i ordered samples of the balancing system and i used all the steps and it was fine for the first couple days and i loved the results so i decided to order the full size set. but just a couple days i started breaking out from the samples. so i was ready to return the product when i recieved them. so i decided to give it another try but this time i didnt use the exfoliant which i believe was the main product breaking me out. and i was right my skin looks great and i totally love the products i have really sensative skin and alot of things make me break out but not paula's choice. i love them all except for the exfoliant. I'm glad I waited a month before writing a review, because had I reviewed this a few weeks ago, it would not have been good! I am a 35 year old that has never had any blemishes, until I hit my 30's! Then my face would break out and it seemed like an oil pit with blackheads galore. I ordered this set and used it. The first 2 weeks, I was not impressed. It did make my skin feel smooth, but I started breaking out worse. Now a month into it, along with using the anti-acne toner and the anti-acne treatment, my skin looks and feels smooth, my blackheads are almost all gone, the oily look/feel is nonexistent and no more breakouts!! I love, love, love Paula's products!
I will list what I use, hoping to help someone else. Skin balancing cleanser, skin balancing toner, anti acne toner, anti acne treatment, and then skin balancing moisture gel. I use the carbon mask once or twice a week. That's all, that is my skincare regime every morning/night.

Love the Skin Balancing System
I love this system. My skin finally feels really clean. I have gotten a few time of the month breakouts, but they cleared up quickly and I didn't get the painful cystic acne I usually get. I have a very oily tzone and slightly dry cheeks, but my skin is responding well to these products.

Holy Grail Skincare Routine
For reference I've got sensitive combination skin that tends to be oily during the summer. I've been using this entire system for over three months now and I love, Love, LOVE it!! Within the first couple of weeks I saw a drastic change in my skin. I had some blotchiness ie. dry patches, discoloration and most of it has disappeared. My skin has regained the 'glow' I once had and my skin is unbelievably smooth!! I don't think it ever looked this clear and healthy. Until a couple of years ago I suffered from acne and tried ProActiv and Murads but after using these products for a few weeks my skin became itchy, would burn. These products made my skin super sensitive to other creams, lotions and potions I tried after and it was frustrating b/c after a while the products would either start irritating my skin or would go back to its unhealthy state. But with Paula's products I haven't had any of these problems (as of yet) and will continue to use and recommend her skincare line :)

Love this stuff
I used Paula's Choice for a long time then switched to something else. I liked the brand for awhile then they got rid of what I was using. My skin was oily, breaking out, red acne starting on my forehead, breakouts on my chin etc. I switched back to Paula's Choice and my skin was heading back to normal. Acne is going away, skin feels smooth, bye bye blackheads. This system is a bit too drying for me. The acne on my chin is subsiding, but still visible. I purchased the hydra light moisturizer to help balance out my skin more. The night time moisturizer that's for very dry skin is a bit too drying. I'm happy with this, I'm hoping the acne on my chin goes away!

Could be irritating to skin!
The products are pretty good but if you are using all the products each time you cleanse your face, it becomes irritating to your skin! My face became itchy and red. Skin Balancing Oil-Reducing Cleanser DIRECTIONS: Splash the face and eyes generously with tepid to slightly warmwater. Apply a small amount of cleanser to your face and eye area with vigorous yet gentle circular motions. Rinse well. Repeat or use with a clean washcloth to remove heavy makeup. How is Skin Balancing Cleanser different from the One Step Face Cleansers?
Skin Balancing Cleanser cleanses skin every bit as well as both One Step Face Cleansers, but uses a different ingredient composition to do so. The One Step Cleansers do not foam or lather, but Skin Balancing Cleanser does, albeit mildly. Many customers prefer this type of lathering cleanser, even though the lather itself has no effect on the cleansing itself.
I have oily skin. Which cleanser should I use?
It all depends on personal preference. If you prefer a super-light, clean-rinsing gel cleanser, the One Step Face Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin is ideal. If you prefer a creamier cleanser that foams yet rinses completely with no residue, Skin Balancing Cleanser is ideal.
Will Skin Balancing Cleanser leave my skin feeling dry & taut?
No. Skin Balancing Cleanser was carefully formulated to cleanse the skin thoroughly and remove makeup without stripping or drying the skin.
Do I still need to use an eye makeup remover?
>Only if you are wearing waterproof mascara or waterproof makeup. Otherwise, this cleanser is effective at gently removing all other types of eye makeup.
Skin Balancing Toner:
What do toners "tone"? I thought Paula didn't recommend toners!
Paula has always recommended toners that are well-formulated. Toners can be a great after-cleansing step to be sure you've removed all your makeup. When properly formulated, they soothe skin and add hydrating ingredients to make skin softer, not to mention they're another leave-on source for antioxidants and other ingredients that improve skin's healthy functioning.
How do I know which toner is right for me? Besides skin type, what are the main differences between the four Paula's Choice toners?
All of our toners restore skin, help remove last traces of makeup, are alcohol- and fragrance-free, and contain no unnecessary irritants such as menthol, peppermint, and citrus oils. They are great as an adjunct to a more thorough cleansing routine, especially post-workout or in hot/humid climates. Even more significantly they go beyond the basics by offering skin benefits you can see and feel.
Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate Serum:
What is the difference between Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate and the other Super Antioxidant Concentrates?
Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate contains special dry-finish and absorbent ingredients that make it ideal for normal to very oily skin. Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate contains several plant oils and a greater variety of antioxidants known to be especially beneficial for normal to very dry skin. Our original Super Antioxidant Concentrate is an "all skin types" option that supplies skin with several antioxidants, primarily stabilized vitamin C.
Is the texture of Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate similar to Paula's Choice Skin Balancing Moisture Gel?
No. Skin Balancing Moisture Gel is a silicone-in-water emulsion and has a light, water-based gel texture while the Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate is a non-aqueous serum that has a completely different feel.
Does Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate decrease the appearance of pores?
The silicone polymers in this product float over skin and minimally "fill in" pores, creating a smoother surface. The effect (as with all such products) is temporary and how long it lasts depends on your pore size and skin's oil output, as well as other products used at the same time. Overall, this product is not capable of reducing pore size, but it's conceivable this effect will be noticed and can be prolonged by pairing it with a matte finish foundation and powder.
I use a prescription product with tretinoin (i.e. Retina-A, Renova, Tazorac). Since Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate and Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate contain retinol, is it OK to combine them?
We are not aware of any contraindications surrounding the use of tretinoin and retinol and believe this combination is beneficial to skin. Because this question concerns a prescription drug, we recommend consulting your physician and following his or her advice.
Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion SPF 15:
Should I reapply Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion during the day?
For casual wear, meaning less than four hours total time out in the sun, it is not necessary to reapply sunscreen as you will be protected all day. If you are perspiring or just spending a longer period of time outdoors, it should be reapplied.
If I wish to maintain the mattifying benefit of this product, should I apply it at night, too?
We don't recommend wearing any sunscreen at night because the actives aren't needed in the evening and provide no other benefit for skin. Instead, use our Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate. You'll maintain a matte finish while reserving the sun protection in Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion for daytime, when skin needs it most.
How is Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion with SPF 15 and Antioxidants different from the Essential Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 15?
Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion with SPF 15 and Antioxidants is a completely different formula. It is designed specifically for the face and contains effective absorbents to help keep skin smooth and matte. Because facial skin is always exposed to the elements (including sunlight), Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion contains a greater array and amount of antioxidants as well as cell-communicating ingredients—all to help keep skin healthy and protected.
Skin Balancing Moisture Gel:
Should I consider this product if I currently use Paula's Choice HydraLight Moisture-Infusing Lotion?
This is a matter of preference. If you prefer your moisturizer to feel weightless while keeping skin smooth and soft, then Skin Balancing Moisture Gel is for you. Either formula will take care of dry (but not very dry) skin without feeling heavy or occlusive, and both leave skin matte.
My skin is normal, without any really oily or dry areas. Do I need a moisturizer?
Your skin needs the beneficial ingredients found in our formulations. Our state-of-the-art toners can suffice if you don't want to use moisturizer every day. Our Skin Balancing Moisture Gel and HydraLight Moisture-Infusing Lotion are weightless moisturizers that can make you feel like you aren't wearing anything on your face at all.
