I didn't believe it but...
I thought I'd try this product. I gave it a month and boy did I see a difference. My nose has huge pores that would get so clogged. After using 2%BHA Gel, the pores appear smaller and clearer. This product is worth every penny. Give it some time. I had very minor blemishes the fist week, but cleared up. Give this product some time for your skin to adjust and you will see wonderful results!

Works well, but I don't like the texture
I found this to be an effective exfoliant, and it helped to improve my acne, blackheads, and skin texture. I didn't like the slightly tacky feel and shiny finish it left on my skin. After trying out this and the liquid BHA I have switched to using the Weightless Body Treatment on my face, and I much prefer it's texture.

I've tried the liquid and cream and both were major improvements from pharmacy brands I'd been using. The gel however is fabulous. My skin is clearer with less acne than it has been in a long time. I have had none of the absorption problems that others have mentioned. A little goes a long way. I let it dry and then apply resist moisturizer with sunscreen. I'm outside a lot in SW FL and it's tough on skin. These products do a great job or protecting it. Thanks.

I saw a difference with the first application!
I had not been faithful to a BHA because I never saw results. After one application I saw a difference in my pores and milia! I still keep staring at face in the mirror looking for my former milia that had been stuck on my forehead for years! Excellent product! I'm switching over to all P. Choice products!

Good news and bad news
Within days of beginning to use the 2% BHA gel, my skin began to look clearer and more radiant overall. Unfortunately, I have been getting new cystic blemishes in several areas of my face. I stopped using the BHA gel, and while I haven't had any new breakouts, it's going to take some waiting to be rid of what's already happened. I think I might try the 1% formula or perhaps the liquid version to see if that works better for me. I really want to love this product! Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. fantastic product!
I have had the worst acne in the past 2 years and have tried so many products especially with salicylic acid. All other products burned and irritated my face; did more damage then good. I honestly wasnt going to attempt another type of product like this again until I read previous reviews and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did! My acne ranged from small pimples to huge cyst-like bumps. This product helped calm the breakout area, reduce the current pimples and prevent all future breakouts. SInce using Paula's products I have not had another breakout since and I recommend this to everyone! There is no burning, no irritation and the gel glides on so smooth and absorbs immediately.

I've used the liquid and lotion formula, but I love the gel. It is the simplest method... no cotton pad needed and it is very effective without being harsh. I use it under the RESIST antioxidant moisturizer with spf25 and have no trouble with layers. My skin is mostly normal, but very sensitive and this doesn't bother it at all. Another good Paula's Choice Product.

I have so many wonderful things to say about Paula's Choice. Not only are they a FANTASTIC brand with amazing, customer service but their products are state-of-the-art without the ridiculous price markup like other so called "high-end" brands. I have never experienced a brand with such integrity! Firstly, I have tried every 2% BHA product on the market. I'm sure many of you suffering from acne/blackheads have! What makes this different? What makes this work? It, unlike any other product I've ever used, is non-irritating and is scientifically proven to clear up blackheads/acne without the yucky irritation. My skin can actually process and use the BHA because it doesn't have any fragrance, dyes, etc. like many other 2% solutions do. I have experienced NO sensitivity with this product. It goes on like a gel, and dries to a nice, non-sticky finish. I wear it once a day at night and it has cleared up my acne significantly (been using it regularly for about 4 months). Literally works better than ANY product on the market. I can say I've spent a majority of my teens/20s struggling, stressing, and spending SO MUCH MONEY on other products that "claim" to do what this does. Give it a shot--you won't regret it! beyond perfect
Every PC product I've purchased has been PERFECT. If I absolutely had to pick a favorite, it would be the BHA gel. You see instant results. Skin looks younger and blackheads start to fade away. I love that this gel includes green tea and grape seed, a nice touch. You must own a BHA product and sunscreen if nothing else.

This exfoliant seemed to be keeping my skin clear! I can tell a distinct difference in my pores after I use it. HOWEVER, no matter how effective a product may be, it's useless if the packaging prevents you from accessing it! The pump broke after less than a week's use...the top popped off (even though I lightly pressed due to its tendency to over-dispense)...the spring BOINGED away...and after putting the pieces back together, it won't dispense the product anymore! This product made me obessed with my skin!
I love this exfoliant! It works great on my face. I also mix a few drops with a fragrance-free body moisturizer and WOW! My skin is incredibly smooth and silky. My skin has never been in this excellent condition! It is clear and extremely soft. I am so amazed on how this product prefected the skin on my body! My skin feels like a baby's skin. I am obsessed! About five weeks ago, a friend gave me a few samples of the PC 2% BHA liquid. At that point, my skin at 30 yrs old looked the worst it had since I was a teenager. Painful cystic acne and blackheads covered both my cheeks, to the point that my skin hurt most of the time. Overnight, I saw a difference. My skin felt calmer, was less red, and the acne was less angry. Fast forward five weeks and a brand new regimin of PC products, and I only have 2-3 active acne spots on my entire face. Even though I've experienced some purging, each day is still a visible, marked improvement on the last. I switched to the gel for easier application, and while the texture is weird, I find that it goes on better if your skin is still a bit damp from your toner. All of that said, I seriously don't know what I would have done without this product. It is literally a lifesaver.

Relatively new to Paula's Choice and recently decided to add an exfoliant to my skincare routine. Decided on BHA gel after researching the difference of AHA & BHA. I'm acne prone so chose BHA 2% Gel to introduce to my skin. I may try a product with higher percentage later, thought this was a good start.....& yes it was! I have already seen results in less than a month's use. Started back last October with Hydralight One Step cleanser. Love it! Then added SB Concentrated Matte Serum with Retinol. Love it! Decided on this exfoliant and added Resist Clear Skin Hydrator as well. Love them both! At night I also use SB Moisture Gel just because I love the feel of that product. I use this exfoliant twice a day and my red acne scars/spots have def. diminished. I do use a 2.5% Benz. Perox. lotion as step #2 after BHA dries thoroughly. I am having amazing results! I do not use a toner. Have never had good skin reaction from a toner. Next will be to experiment with a daytime moisturizer with sunscreen, so that all the products above work to their full potential. (Plan to give a try to PC Matte Lotion with Sunscreen.) Exfolient is a bit sticky for a gel but it absorbs well, after a few minutes the stickiness is gone and I continue with routine. Impressed with Paula's Choice Products!

This is more of a thick liquid than a gel, in my opinion. But quibbles about name aside, I found this way too sticky to be practical. I couldn't use it during the day because it made my moisturizer and makeup go on strangely due to the tackiness of it, so I started using it at night only. Even then, though, it took a very long time (at least 1 hour) for the stickiness to go away. It also felt oily when I first put it on. The oily feeling subsided pretty quickly (30 min. or so), but I still felt I had to wait around a long time before I could go to bed because of the tack on my face. I didn't use it long enough to see if it helped my clogged pores. I might try the 2% BHA Liquid instead. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. Can't Go Without It
I give it a rating of four strictly for the time it takes the sticky gel to dry. But it's the absolute only thing that helps my dry,patchy, sensitive rosacea ! There's nothing out there like this and I love it !

Great formula for my oily skin
I really like this stuff and my oily skin reacts well to it. This seems to help unclog my pores. My skin is prone to breakouts and I this seems to reduce the flare-ups. It has a very silky texture, and you only have to use a little bit. I've been using for about 3 months and haven't even finished 1 bottle, so it does last. I use a small drop on my neck (I break out there too) and a larger pea size for my face. I do have one complaint, the old packaging was 4 oz. and the new one is 3.3 oz. Made my skin very smooth and soft!
I use this on my face and my back, I suffer from clogged pores and the occasional breakout. The skin on my back has never been softer, I used to feel little bumps and it just looked uneven and unattractive but now it is even toned! So happy. This works well on my face also, I use this once a day because anything else makes me peel just a bit. The only thing that has not improved is my chin, I have white bumps (milia?), tons of them turn into breakouts. I beleive it is hormonal because the rest of my skin is breakout free. Hopefully one day I will find a product that will help with my hormonal breakouts! Overall this product is fantastic for smoothing skin and improving texture and appearance. I even notice my fine lines improving.

The BEST!!
I have been using this for almost 4 years now and it has been the only thing to keep my oily, adult acne at bay. I cleanse with paula's skin balancing cleanser, and use this in morning and night. it keeps the skin dirt free, and exfoliates just enough to keep pores clear of dead skin. My skin has never looked better. Nothing can touch this!! I do not, however, like the new packaging. bring back the bottles you can squeeze, please!!

Liked, but did not love
I began using this when my skin reacted to the Skin Resufacing and Smoothing System with a persistent breakout on my forehead. While this product did not exacerbate the problem, it did not heal the breakout, either. I discontinued use after four weeks. I did feel like, however, that my skin continued some of the positive effects I had seen from the other system including a fresh looking face. Not sure if I can get this one back, but I will try a different BHA exfoliant if possible. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. Remove frown lines???
Few years ago, i tried the samples of both 2% liquid and lotion but didnt like both as i felt they were too sticky(i felt they are just going to attract lots of dust onto my skin!) and made me very shiny... (i used it alone at night).
Recently, i bought samples of 2% gel and liquid(again). I started with the gel 3 weeks ago using it nightly onto my t zone only and its great! Its still very sticky but i wait for a few minutes for it to absorb then i will put on my mousturiser. My skin feels so smooth and dewy after that! Not sticky at all! My forehead which used to be bumpy looks so clear and smooth now and the strange thing is... My frown lines are gone!!! Is this suppose to happen with bha!? I thought it only clears the pores?? But im happy! Will be trying the liquid next! The only dissappointing thing is... Bha is not sold in paula's choice japan... So i will have to buy direct from the states and pay for the overseas postage!!! Expensive but i guess its well worth it!! (my skin is soooooo picky that it breaks out with most new skincare, makeup or even supplements!) oh, i tried it once on my whole face and the next morning, my skin feels very smooth BUT i found 3 new tiny pimples! Purging? Maybe. But i dont wanna risk that anymore so im sticking to using only onto my t zone as for now! Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review! I feel like the last 15+ years of my life were wasted in the skincare department. I recall trying a BHA product in my teens and ending up with dry, flakey skin. I assumed that my skin wasn't a good match for BHA and so I stayed away for so, so long. Until a couple of months ago when I learned about Paula's Choice via MakeupAlley and was surprised at Paula's enthusiasm for this slightly out-of-fashion ingredient. I went about revamping my skincare routine according to Paula's advice and Beautypedia reviews, and after trying a sample of this gel I purchased the full bottle. All I can say is, this is the single most beneficial skincare product I've ever used and I'm looking in the mirror at the clearest, freshest and most vibrant skin I've ever had. I just use it at night. Once it absorbs into my skin I top it off with Olay Regenerist serum and I have to say it does take 30 minutes or so for my face to stop feeling goopy, but it does soak in eventually and in the morning my skin looks amazing. I'm so happy!

2% BHA Gel Exfoliant
Love this product. I have had problems with my skin since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and Paula's 2% BHA Gel is the only thing that has helped me. And believe me I have tried hundreds of products. Thank you for producing products we can trust. I did notice though, that we are now getting more packaging but less product for the same price :-(

LOVE THIS!
I have used this for a few years now and have noticed less blackheads. I have very sensitive skin and have had no problems with using this. My skin doesnt feel tight nor does hit sting after a few seconds after applying it. When I use this over time, it really makes a difference in the appearance of my skin.

I find that my using only a small amount that it absorbs well and is still able to work its magic. These products are amazing. I am 42 years old and have struggled with blackheads and breakouts for years. I have used everything from inexpensive drugstore products to dermatologist recommended elite products and nothing works as well as Paula's Choice. She really gets my skin! This formula is the best for me since it isn't as emolient as the lotion. If you use too much the excess will sit on your skin making it too sticky, so the trick is not to use too much. It took three or four days for me to notice, but I woke up on the 4th morning to glowing, beautiful skin! I ordered some 2% lotion as well for the dryer winter months, because I don't want to have to go one night without this! I also ordered some of the Clear Regular Strength Toner for during the day since it leaves no residue. They sent me some of these as a sample and I love it. Also, let me tell you - this site has the very best customer service ever. If you don't believe me, read some of the customer responses at the end of reviews. They really care and want you to have a good experience. Paula gets it! It's skin, not laundry!! Be kind to it.

breakouts be gone
i like this bha formulation. at 41 i have struggled with breakouts my whole life. i used to have many black heads all over my nose. this formulation has been fantastic to get rid of them. this along with the cleanser and toner has gotten rid of the black heads AND kept breakouts at bay.

Little Visible Result
After hearing about PC products for a long time from a close friend I finally ordered samples of this 2% BHA Gel and a bottle of the CLEAR Extra Strength Benzoyl Peroxide. I am terribly dissapointed that after an entire MONTH of adding these two products to my morning and night skin care routine I have seen no visible results. The gel is too thick and makes my skin sticky. The
CLEAR acne treatment has terrible packaging (which Paula is always preaching ) and I've still had two breakouts while using it. I'm very frustrated, having used every product out there, I was really hoping that PC was going to be the one. Waste of money just like all the other products I have on my counter, I have an occasional breakout but do struggle with enlarged pores and blackheads and milia, these should be easy problems to solve! What a relief!
I have been trying to find a simple-to-use product to help my 12-year old daughter's acne for MONTHS. I have tried every OTC product out there, but her poor nose continued to be covered in dark blackheads and she would get one or two new pimples a day. Within THREE days of starting to use this product on her face in the morning (and the 8% AHA gel in evening after washing her face), her acne AND blackheads started clearing up! She stopped getting new pimples and her blackheads are getting fewer and fewer, too. On the rare occassion she gets a new pimple, they disappear much faster, too! LOVE this stuff! I will be keeping an eye on this website for sales so I can stock up...this stuff works for us!!!

Best PC product
This is the best PC product there is. My skin is smooth, radiant and acne-free. I have been using this product for about a year and have had maybe a couple of breakouts that healed quickly. It has also completely smoothed out my forehead - I used to have many many bumps and lines all across my forehead. When I tell people that my skin used to be dull and full of bumps, they cannot believe it. Blackheads are also significantly reduced- haven't had a facial since January and won't need one anytime soon. I use it on my neck and chest also, as these were trouble areas for me, as well. Like others have said, the product is sticky, but I use it only at night and once I apply my moisturizer, it absorbs almost completely. This product is a great value for the money - a bottle lasts about 8 months.

I have combination skin and suffer from cystic acne and hyperpigmentation.
I purchased the sample size at first. To my delight, I saw improvement -- my skin was so much smoother and my acne was healing much quicker. So I purchased the full size. A week-or-so after using this product daily (every night), I got a massive cyst on my cheek. The BHA Gel wasn't helping at all. I finally managed to heal it with Tea Tree Oil and Vitamin E Oil. I started using the BHA Gel again, but it only gave me whiteheads and seemed to stop preventing my acne. Now it's just sitting in my bathroom, 3/4 full. *sigh* Customer Care Response: Thank you for your review. 2% BHA Gel is amazing
I am 41 years old and I have always had sensitive, blemish-prone skin. Over the years I have tried everything out there. This is the only thing that has eliminated my skin problems. I have been using it for about 6 months and I have had, maybe 2 blemishes, in spots where I don't always apply the product consistently (around my temples and hairline). I am so pleased to no longer rely heavily on cover-up ... I frequently use no face makeup at all any more! The gel is a bit sticky at first and takes a minute or two to dry - it appears a bit shiny, but if this bothers you, you could use powder to matte your skin. For anyone who may be suspicious that the reviews are a hoax - they are not! :) Thank you Paula's Choice!

Made my skin worse
I was so excited about this product, and I am so sorry to report that it did nothing for me. I am 38, have oily skin and moderate acne that occasionally causes small ice-pick scars, especially around the perimeter of my face. I am also prone to rosacea and ruddiness in the center of my face- nose/cheeks. At first, my acne appeared to be going away and my skin got smoother. But after about a week, I developed a few large cysts that would not go away, and further use of the gel seemed to make them last longer rather than get smaller. The gel also accentuated every acne scare and enlarged pore I have. I stopped using it, and my skin calmed down within a few days (with the exception of the cysts, which take way longer to heal). It just did not work for me. I may try the BHA lotion or something more moisturizing. After all the great reviews, I am at a loss to explain why I seem to be one of the only people for whom this product doesn't work. Bummer. Very happy so far
So far I have been very happy with this product. My skin is oily and very prone to clogged pores. I was desperately looking for something that will help smooth out my skin. This gel has been working very well. It has been about 3 weeks and I have definitely noticed a difference in my skin. This product actually controls oil very well for me. I put a thin layer on morning and night, and I can see my skin is not as "bumpy" looking as before. I am looking forward to more progress with this. I hope it never stops working for me!

Great for whiteheads
I have an oily / combination skin that is very prone to pore clogging due to which I have had had whiteheads for many years. I switched to the 2% bha gel about 6 weeks ago after trying the 1% gel and this is really working. I have had extremely stubborn whiteheads bellow my lower lip. I would always find white bumps there no matter how often I squeezed it clean. Now my chin is almost clear and so is the rest of the face. Hopefully, I'll see no witeheads in a month or two.
The product used to feel tacky on my face but not anymore. This is what I did. 1) Used less product. A little goes a long way. 2) Mixed it with my Resist moisturizer in my palm before applying. This way I am able to apply the product without tugging and pulling the skin even with small amt of the product. The moisturizer reduces the tacky afterfeel if there is any.

Out of the three mediums...the gel works for me!
I've tried all three mediums of 2% BHA products: liquid, lotion and gel. By far the gel works best for me. I love the liquid, and used it for over a year, however I would go through it in the blink of an eye. I tried the lotion, but it was too thick for my skin and became counterproductive. The gel works perfectly. I can control the amount I use, as opposed to the liquid. For the reviewers that say it's too tacky and doesn't blend well, perhaps you are using too much? I find that just a drop is enough to cover my chin and it absorbs quite quickly. For reference, I am in my early thirties with fair, combination skin that tends to get blackheads and clogged pores on the chin and forehead. I use her Skin Balancing Cleanser twice a day and the 5% benzoyl peroxide when I develop a blemish, and my skin has been clear and beautiful for 2 years now! Thanks Paula for another phenomenal product!

I wish I'd found this product earlier!
Where every other product has failed, even other BHA products, this has exceeded my expectations. I got it because of its ingredients: effective and no extra pore-clogging fillers. Everything clogs my pores. Just treating pimples is not enough and I wish I'd known that when I was younger. It doesn't burn or sting, irritate, or clog. It clears pores, refining skin and reducing pimples and blackheads. Please don't change the formula, it's so perfect I can feel a pleasant tingle that tells me its working. Not my fav Paula's product
The BHA Gel's texture is gummy and stays sticky for hours. Impossible to wear under makeup (balls up) or even at night (face sticks to pillow). It also dries to a shiny finish that looks odd. Can't Live Without It!
It took me a good year to see if this gel was doing anything. Because of my sensetive, acne prone skin I use so many products to keep it clear and I had to experiment as well to find the right regimen. Well, it wasn't until I ran out of the BHA gel and decided to use AHAs instead that all hell broke out on my face-literally! I had cycts and blackheads like crazy! I ordered the BHA gel again and within a couple of days of using it my skin has calmed down and is starting to look smooth, clear and healthy again. I can't live without this stuff. AHAs are too harsh for me and this gel (BHA)is perfect for clearing up my hyperpigmentation too. It is sticky at first, but all it needs is time to absorb and then you can apply makeup. I've been using this 2% BHA gel to minimize the pores in my T-zone for years. It also keeps my skin from breaking out. If it starts to do so, I apply more BHA with my evening routine, and the next day it is usually cleared up. It also helps with the keratosis pilaris on my arms (and elsewhere).

HATE it.
i was so excited when i ordered this product and was so very disappointed after a month's usage. it claims to be 'non-sticky' but it is EXTREMELY sticky and takes forever to absorb and dry. it's been so long since i placed the order i don't think i can even return it. i just found it a waste of money since it didn't work for me. and i did find the price more on the expensive side for such a little bottle. An essential part of my routine

Good Product
I have just tried BHA 2% gel but it does not absorb very well. I will not recommend for combination to oily skin. BHA is much better I guess. However when you put on skin balancing moisture gel then everything will be fine. I will recommend liquid for combination to oily skin and gel for dry skin.

Great for arm bumps!
I have the dreaded Keratosis Pilaris on my upper arms. Both a dermatologist and an aesthician had recommended AHA products, which didn't help. Finally I tried this BHA 2% gel after hearing Paula recommend BHA repeatedly. I was amazed how after just a couple applications my arm bumps calmed down! I'm now using it daily, and I think it is really helping. I don't know if the lotion would be better, as it is may be more moisturizing, but I sure do love this product! I have had very good luck with the Exfoliating 2% BHA Gel. I find it to be a very effective at exfoliating my skin and providing me with a healthy glow. I use this product 2 to 3 times a week as part of my nightly skin care regime. I have sensetive, combination skin that is acne prone. Due to this, I am limiting my usage to a few times a week to avoid irritating my skin.

Finally!
A couple of months ago, i had a bad breakout on my cheecks, my skin was rough to touch, reddened, red marks on cheecks..just bad. I was using an antibiotic topical, which seemed to be only making things worse. So I decided to give this a try to smoothen my skin, exfoliate, and reduce breakouts. And it did exactly that! My skin is so much softer and toned, and smooth! Changing diet and birth control helped, but this definitely did to. I only use a very small amount all over my face at night, and it workd wonders. Along with that i use my own apple cider vinegar toner which also helps in combination with this. Less oily skin too. I highly recommened trying out paula's choice 2 # bha!! Remember, start in low quantities!

Soothing skin smoother
I have used this product for years, since I used to have extremely oily skin ever since adolescence, the 2% Gel made such a difference in my 40's with the monthly breakouts along my jaw--when I used the gel every night, the hormones couldn't do it! My skin becomes so much smoother and softer with disciplined skin care, of course, but I consider Paula's 2% BHA gel one of the most important items to buy from Paula's Choice--now that I'm getting near menopause, I find it as comfortable for my combination skin as for very oily skin--and so soothing for redness!

Terribly Sticky
I tried this as an alternative to the BHA liquid, and I can't stand the texture. You can't layer it with anything or it balls up (no matter how long you wait or how much you try to rub it in), and at night it makes my cheek literally stick to the pillowcase. Love the product - but top leaks badly
I love this product. I've been using it for years and it keeps my skin clear. I have to subtract a star for the bottle though. The top leaks badly when traveling via air or when you put it upside down when it's getting low to collect the gel at the top for easier dispensing. And, YES, I've confirmed the top is securely attached. I've lost probably a third of the last bottle because of this issue.

Wonder product
The 2% BHA Gel has got to be one of the best products I have ever used on my face, and I have used it for years to give a smooth surface for makeup, remove many many blackheads, and now make my skin less red. I have found I can use the serum over it without a problem.

Good product, but not on my face...
The BHA in this product is very effective, but I found that it worked better on the backs of my arms than on my face. On my face it was sticky and tended to pill up no matter how long I let it sink in. On the back of my arms (where I'm not applying additional products like makeup, etc) it is wonderful. Very lightweight, no scent, and did what it is supposed to do.

I've had mild adult acne with extremely sensitive skin for about 10 years. I tried this for 4 months and found it to be slightly irritating so I switched to the 1%. That being said, if BHA's help you, this is the least irritating BHA I've ever used.

I've used this for years and it has done amazing things for the pores on my cheeks and nose. One thing to remember is to use very little--it's easy to use far more than one needs. I also use it everywhere else on my face where it might break out because of hormonal flares or whatnot, which really keeps my skin calm and clear. I'm sure this is an important factor in why my skin continues to look so young and healthy.

Better than pricy brands
Before using Paula's I bought the Peter Thomas Roth acne product sampler. I didn't need everything in the kit so was only looking to buy the exfoliating lotion and the spot treatment but I would have had to pay nearly $80 for both and to be honest, they just left my face really dry and flaky. I bought the equivalent from Paula's and use both twice a day and face is not dry in the slightest. As for how it works on acne, seems to be helping but I've only been using it for about two weeks. I do notice a lot less blackheads. I would recommend anyone, especially those with sensitive skin, give these a try.

Major improvement
I use the 2% BHA gel twice a day: under makeyp during the day and at night. What a difference! I am 63 and was looking older than my age. This product is a big improvement in the look and feel of my complexion. It is a wonderful foundation primer. I do not use moisturizer and with my oily skin, this gel is enough.

Sticky, gooey
While I love the 2% BHA body treatment (and it has really helped my keratosis pilaris) I hate the gel. It stays sticky and gooey on my arms for a long time. Finally, I washed it off. Lucky for me I just tried the sample and didn't order it.

Wonderful product!
I received this product as a sample and it made a difference after 4 uses. Since I have only used BHA in a cleanser (which I now know was a waste, as it just gets rinsed down the drain), I expected some redness. After 2 uses, I felt a little bit of stinging, but no redness. I stopped using it for 2 days then continued with a nightly application. I have oily skin with occassional breakouts and an uneven skin tone. This product definitely smoothed the surface of my skin and already decreased pore size. I noticed just how smooth my skin was one day as I was washing my face. My skin has never felt this good! The gel form of this product is comvenient, but I find it problematic for daytime use. It makes my face a bit sticky and shiny, so I use it at night. Since I my skin is oily, the only "moisturizer" I use is Paula's refreshng toner. I will definitely continue using Paula's BHA products, but will probably consider purchasing the liquid version.

Pore minimizer...Literally
I was turned off by the products slightly oily texture and sheen that it left on my face. The last thing I want is an oilier skin with more breakouts. I 1st tried this a while ago, and felt the same as others here: didn't like the shine or slow absorbtion. However, I have recently found a great way to use it! I mix a little of my foundation, a little squirt of BHA gel and a bead of Paula's oil free moisturizer, mix together and apply with a foundation brush. PERFECT! And the BHA works all day long. I have great results.

Need to let it sink in for 5 min! works great! as described. wouldnt use lotion too thick, liquid - to much waste with cotton pad. would rather use gel and wait a few min. Great product. It made a difference in just one day!
I'm not sure about putting this on under makeup - it does feel a bit tacky at first. My preference is to put it on at night, let it dry for a few minutes and go to bed. When I wake up in the morning, my skin is bright and clear and smooth. It also feels hydrated, which is not something I expected from an acid! Great product, questionable packaging
I've been using 2% BHA gel for a few weeks now and can clearly see the improvement in my skin, the blackheads are slowly clearing up.
I don't mind that it leaves skin somewhat sticky and shiny.
But the packaging problem should be solved. Tried to travel with it and it leaked. Not a major leak, but still damaged my other products in a ziploc bag.

Nothing like it
I started using this product a couple of months ago. My skin has improved so much! It is so much smoother and I have a lot fewer black heads. The product goes on so easily-- I tried the liquid first and found it harder to use. The gel is perfect, it glides on and dries fairly quickly, and there is no waste. It also has no fragrance or ingredients that irritate my sensitive skin. I love it!
My skin is very fair and sun-damaged and this exfoliant has helped to clear up some of the lesions that have appeared on my face and shoulders. Rarely do I purchase the same product twice because they usually don't deliver on their promises. Not so with this one-- I'm hooked.

Very sticky
I much prefer the 2% Lotion to this gel - even though the gel is supposed to be better for oily skin... which is my problem. This is far too sticky- so I use this at night, and the lotion during the day. Also, it's hard to control how much comes out of the container as it has a somewhat 'liquidy'-gel consistency; you have to squeeze the bottle very gently or you'll end up with more product than necessary.

i've been using this product for a little over 2 months and it really does what it says it does. i used to have black heads all over my nose and on my cheeks. but it wasn't until 3 days ago, i realized they were gone!!! it also helped control my extremely oily face. now, i dont have to use those oil absorbing sheets every like 3 hours. great job. very satisfied, especially for the price. a friend told me the liquid was better. so i'll be trying that next. funny thing is, the bottle still feels pretty full. so a little goes a long way with this product. i'm so happy. i have no more black heads.

Great for Combo. skin
I use this product with the blemish fighting solution and love both products. I have combination skin with mild,occasional acne, but since I've started to use these products with a mild cleansers that Paula recommends, I've had no breakouts. They can be a little drying so I only use them once a day and skip some days if my skin is feeling especially dry...the woes of combination skin!

New formula goes on a bit odd!
The new 1% Beta Hydroxy Acid Gel is definitely not as sticky as it used to be,but the smell is much more pronounced,thinking it is the increase in plant extracts,the smell lingers,not a bad smell though.But the oddest thing is the when rubbing it on the skin there is a white frost that you have to blend in,never had this issue with the old formula.

This gel is very sticky and it won't allow following moisturizers to be absorbed. I'm glad that I ordered a sample and didn't actually buy this one. I wish I tried liquid insted of gel.

Very dissapointed
This 2% Bha has done nothing for my skin, i followed the directions and yet my breakouts have more frequent and my blemishes are more numerous than before, even though the blemishes are smaller this product did not deliver what promised, and when i had a live chat with one of there skin care consultant people they basically just said theres nothing you can do but return it, which i couldn't do, as it was a gift, i am very dissapointed

Very Dissapointed!
I have been a long time user of the 2% BHA lotion, and when it was unavailable earlier this year I decided to try the gel formulation. I was horribly dissapointed. The product gave me the same results as the lotion, but the texture of the gel was awful, and it wouldn't absorb into my skin - I was left with a sticky face! I can't decide!
One thing is for sure: I love Paula's BHA solutions, they really keep my acne in check. I've tried both the gel and the liquid, but I can't decide! The gel is easier to apply, but leaves the face shinier and has more of a texture. The liquid is better, but you have to use cotton pads to apply it unless you want to exfoliate between your fingers (trust me, not good!). Either way, this is definitely a night product for me because of the shine and the photosensitivity.

This is the best product I have ever used in terms of fighting Keratosis Pilaris on my arms and keeping my acne to a minimum on my face. It just took me some time to use is consistently every day and I saw the results within weeks. Would love to see it in a higher concentration though.

I came across this product 3 years ago when I saw someone write a review on a skin care message board about how it managed to get rid of their blackheads. Being one who always struggled with blackheads and never could find a solution, I gave it a try. For three years I have tried the liquid, gel, and lotion. I also started using other Paula's Choice products. I looked in this mirror this morning and honestly did not want to put on any makeup - my skin was just flawless. There were a few marks from a couple pimples I had during my last period, but that was it. No bumps. No blemishes. No redness. And especially, no blackheads!! Amazing product!! The only thing I don't like about the gel is that it takes a while to saturate into your skin. So if your in a hurry in the morning you can end up with lumps when trying to put on makeup.

REAL results
I didn't even realize how uneven and rough my skin was until I used this gel!!! I now have smooth, clear skin. Many days now, I just wear a little powder - no foundation my skin looks so good. Blackheads that I just "accepted" are GONE. I've tried the lotion and its good but I like the gel for summer on my combination skin.

Good gel
I am overall happy with this gel. It does the job and has nice consistency. I just do not understand why it does not come in a tube package. It would be so much easier to use. I noticed packaging is an issue with Paula's products. Many do not come in easy to use (get the product out) packages. You also have to make sure you spread this product thin and wait a while before applying makup or it may cake up and look unattractive. I will try liquid next time as this will not be an issue with a liquid product.

Can't live without
I have been using alpha/beta hydroxies(sp?) since I was a teenager. I know how important they are to one's skin, and especially to mine. I have oily /combination skin prone to brake-outs.
If I don't use the acids for a couple of days I can see the difference. Pimples!!!
Paula's choice is the only brand of which I can trust the ph level to be at an effective level. I also love that it comes in a nice pure gel without unnecessary additives. The icing on the cake is that it is affordable!

changed how I think about my skin
I'm switching to the 2% lotion for the winter, but I have to say that this product has changed the way I think about my skin. I have had stubborn areas on my forehead and chin that always were bumpy. Within a few days, those are gone, gone, gone. I still get the occasional breakout, but the persistent blackheads and whiteheads are gone. (By breakout I mean pimples versus small bumps). Also, in the winter my skin would flake. I thought it was just because it was dry, so I'd slather on more and more lotion. But now I realize that I wasn't exfoliating well. Now my skin doesn't look so dry, even before I put any moisturizer on. I love this stuff.

Be patient!!
I am 38 and have had moderate acne my whole life and have tried everything from doctors, drug store products, QVC and HSN skincare and proactive.This 2% gel is the best product in this line for acne prone skin! Takes a little to get used to the texture, but let it sit on skin a minute or two before applying the blemish fighting solution and it will be magic for your skin. I love the fact it includes plant antioxidants as well.

The best product in the entire line
I have been using Paula's Choice products for many years now. The 2% BHA Gel, in my opinion, is the most well-formulated and effective product in the entire line if you suffer from acne. Of course that's subjective, but this product comes as close to performing a miracle as any I've tried. Indeed, it's the only product I've ever used where the results are almost immediate and unparalleled. There is one "secret" to using this product (although the secret is written clearly in the directions of the bottle): only use a little bit. If you don't use very little, the product is very tacky on the skin, and leaves a visible film/shine. Otherwise, I believe this product is extraordinary (and much better than the liquid or lotion versions of this same product). It's a shame that products of this quality are a rarity.

I'm 45 and have never had a product make this much difference in my skin. The blackheads on my nose are almost non-existent and I no longer get what I call 'underground' pimples -- the ones that are deep in the skin and painful. I even have my mom using the 1% BHA now. I am sorry to see many of Paula's makeup items being discontinued but I'm relieved that she will continue her skin care line.

Makes skin look great, BUT those with normal/dry skin MUST use good moisturizer underneath this, otherwise skin will peel/flake.

I started using the 1% BHA gel and that didn't seem effective enough so about a month ago I switched to the 2% gel. It's been more drying than the 1% but my overall skin tone looks and feels better so far.

Stopped working
When I first started using this product, it did decrease the shine on my face for a good portion of the day but then I noticed it kind of stopped working for me and the shine came back sooner, also noticed hard like bumps along my chin and hairline, stopped using it

Great for keratosis pilaris
Your 2% BHA gel is one of the 2 keys I've found for treating the keratosis pilaris on my upper arms and legs.
The other key was using a body wash with a body puff instead of bar soap.

At Last
I've wanted for so long to write this kind of review. I've been disappointed so many times by other products (some of them big name) claiming to do what this product actually does. I think it's taken *years* of junk out of my pores. Blemishes are reduced to almost nothing (yay) but the texture is so much better as well. I've been using it for a few months and my skin *still* continues to improve every day. The only reason I gave the product 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is a little more sticky than I care for. But I put it on light and only use it at night and the benefits far outway a little bit of sticky. I would recommend this product to anyone with clogged pores and oily skin that doesn't seem to respond to anything else.

FABULOUS PRODUCTS!!!
The 2% beta hydroxy acid (BHA) gel is the latest (along with the skin recovery moisturizer) product I've ordered from Paula's Choice line. I can't rave enough about either. My skin is smooth, clear and radiant (no more small bump acne like feeling on my forehead which was most prominent and bothersome near the hairline) after only a few days' use! I should have ordered this a long time ago. The moisturizer has totally eliminated the dry, flaky skin on the folds of my nose. Thanks once more Paula!!! I now use the one step cleanser, skin balancing toner, super antioxidant concentrate, and skin balancing super antioxidant mattifying concentrate. Next weekend project: clearing my bathroom of any and all facial care products which do not read Paula's Choice on them.

Frustratingly sticky and tacky
The stickiness of this product is a real time. The product never soaks in and my skin remains tacky-feeling until it is washed off. I absolutely can't wear makeup over it.
I'm going to try the lotion as I see another user with the same problem claims it does not have this issue.

Tried this and the liquid because I'll run out of my Weightless Body Treatment before winter! The gel is superior in texture to the liquid! However, I prefer the WBT (thus 4 stars). BHA 2% products have done wonders for my skin!

I'm 36 and wished I had this during my teenage years...had bad acne...used retin-A and took tetracycline. Differin worked great but my skin is too sensitive. Currentlyl, I have problems with breakouts from allergies. I tried it on my perioral dermatitas. They are like little white itchy pimples that are caused by allergies to dustmites; and this product worked beautifully. First time since I started using this gel...I have been going without make-up! Prefer the 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Lotion
The 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Gel stays sticky on my skin regardless of the amount used and length of drying time. 2% Lotion is a far superior product.

I'm a believer, Paula! My skin no longer feels dry and tight after cleansing and your salyclic acid is miles above any I've tried. Your AHA is also the perfect exfoliant - minimal irritation, maximum results. I always thought I had super dry skin. Now, my skin is still a little dry sometimes, but its miles away better! Who knew I was doing it to myself! My best friend still uses a bar of charcoal peppermint soap that she thinks will help her combination acne/dry skin. 'That's not acne,' I say, 'that is some intense irritation from the waxes and peppermint! I cringe to think how she must be so frustrated with her skin; meanwhile, my skin 'issues' have evaporated! AMAZING product
I never had acne as a child...but starting last May I started getting bumps on my forehead, which later spread to my whole face. They just looked like bumps filled with pus, and not really red...more white. I tried researching to see what it was - and came up with closed comedones. I went to the dermatologist and she prescribed me Differin gel, but after hearing such bad reviews on the product, I searched around for other options. This gel is nothing short of a miracle. I've tried benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid peels, lactic acid, you name it. Everyone of them dried and irritated my skin, and the blackheads came right back. 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid Gel
This product exfoliates as advertised. However, it balls up unacceptably under all products I try to layer over it. The Weightless Body Treatment with 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid has the same problem, but to a lesser degree. The 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid lotion has superior texture and hydration to both of these.

I have struggled w/acne since I was in 6th grade. I started seeing a dermatologist at age 11! I must admit I did not like this exfoliant at first. I could not layer other products over it without the gel breaking up into clots. However, by following the advice of customer service and letting it absorb for several minutes, I find it performs acceptably.

What makes this product unique?
Skin Perfrecting 2% BHA Gel is a water-based formula that exfoliates both the skin's surface and inside the pore, reshaping the pore lining to unclog pores and improve skin cell turnover rate. This creates a dramatic improvement in the skin's appearance, feel, and function especially for blemish-prone skin. There is a great deal of research indicating that BHA (beta hydroxy acid) increases collagen production and drastically smoothes the surface of skin. Your AHA (glycolic acid) products have a higher percentage than your BHA (salicylic acid) products. Does this mean AHA is a stronger exfoliant?
AHA products are most effective at a 5% to 10% concentration and BHA at 1% to 2% concentration. Think about it like making bread, the amount of yeast you need is tiny in comparison to the amount of flour you use but equally important to get the results you want. The percentage of effectiveness varies depending on the ingredient. Rest assured that the BHA products are not any less effective due to lower concentrations of the exfoliant.
How does Paula's Choice 2% BHA Gel compare to the 2% BHA Liquid?
The main difference lies with each product's texture. The 2% BHA Liquid has a toner-like consistency. The 2% BHA Gel features a water-light base. Both products are also appropriate for all skin types.
I currently use Paula's Choice 2% BHA Lotion. Should I switch to the 2% BHA Gel? Is it all right to use both?
It is entirely a matter of personal preference. It is completely acceptable to use more than one of our 2% BHA products, though use only one at a time. A typical regimen would be to apply the 2% BHA Gel in the morning under makeup and the 2% BHA Lotion in the evening.
I have tried Paula's Choice 2% BHA and 2% BHA Liquid and did not care for the texture. Will the 2% BHA Gel work for me?
Quite possibly, yes. It's worth trying because your skin may prefer the feel of a gel to a lotion or the slip of the liquid.
