Directions: Apply a dime-sized amount to clean skin and massage over face, including around the eyes (do not apply to eyelids). Follow with a Paula's Choice Blemish Fighting Solution (if needed), moisturizer, and/or specialty product. For daytime, wear under a product rated SPF 15 or higher. Note: Persons allergic to aspirin should not use a product containing salicylic acid.

Quite by accident I discovered my perfect pre-foundation product, Paula's Choice 2% beta hydroxy acid lotion. All my life (now 73) I've been plagued with a shiny, oily-looking complexion. I've tried matte products, and every other product you offer....still have that awful shiny, oily-looking face. No amount of blotting made the slightest difference. One day after applying the 2% beta lotion I decided to stop right there and proceed with the foundation. Voila! It worked. It creates more of a soft matte appearance, with a glow, not a shine.

As a 50 year old woman with hormonal skin problems and sensitive skin, I tried so many products that it made me crazy. I have been using Paula's skin care products for several months and have been impressed with every item. However, I recently purchased the 2% Beta Hydroxy Lotion and I am amazed!!! I am 45 years old and as I've aged, the old acne scars from my youth have become more and more prevalent. I have Keratosis Pilaris on my arms and legs. It is very a very ugly condition, my pores get very clogged and there is the temptation to pick and pop them open. Great product
My 14 year old has keratosis pilaris on his arms and has been so embarrassed by it. This product was recommended on a website of somebody with the same condition. Can't live without!
If I was to be stranded on a desert island, this would be the one beauty priduct I'd have to have with me. I can NOT live with out it. I have used many doctor prescribed creams, but nothing compares to the results of this! My skin is smooth, NOT dry and irritated. It eliminates clogged pores and stops blemishes before they start. Please don't believe the scandal over parebens. No causal link with cancer has ever been proven and so far there is no scientific evidence to support any link with any form of cancer. This product is effective as an exfoliant.

I absolutely love this product; it's a shame it's unavailable - seems odd to me. Glad I ordered an extra one that last time. I will be trying the 1% in the meantime, I guess.

Love this Product!

My skin has never been better
W-O-W!! All of Paula's BHA products have been a god-send. My skin has NEVER (ever) been this clear and smooth and clear. I haven't used makeup since I started using the BHAs! I only use moisturiser 3x/week in the winter because for the most part I don't need it (well, the weather in SF is mild). Love this under SPF because it doesn't add that "bulky" feeling. I'm stocking up now that they are on sale. Btw, is there an expiration date on BHAs?

Good stuff
This is one to try if the liquid leaves you flakey. My nose flakes badly with the liquid, but the lotion is better. The liquid is better for my forehead, which is oily and prone to breakouts. You might have to experiment, but it's worth it.

I've been using this for a while, and would have given it a 5 except that they've changed the formula. The old one kept my skin perfectly clear. The new one is thicker, creamier and is causing breakouts. I look like a teenager again. Guess I'll have to try one of the other formulas. So frustrating when you find something that works and they feel the need to "improve" it.

Changed the Formula!!
I used to love this product but they changed the formula, making it too oily and thick for my skin causing more break-outs instead of helping them. Why mess with a good thing? Hopefully the gel will be of help.

Nice, Smooth Finish
I used to use the Paula's Choice BHA Gel, but recently switched to the lotion, which I definitely prefer. It leaves a smoother, non-greasy finish and is a good primer for other products.

New formula has worse texture
I recently ordered this product, which now has a different formulation than the previous time I ordered it. The texture of it is no practically un-spreadable on the skin. You actually have to work, and work, and work, to rub it in...

Don't like the new formula
To start, this is a very good exfoliant, that lives up to its promises. However, the new formula leaves much to be desired as it is not very spreadable, and you have to rub it in for quite a while. I think I'll stick with the 1% lotion, which absorbs and spreads like a dream.

Did not work for me!
I didn't see any improvements at all. Sometimes this product would irritate my face, and I really didn't like the smell. Also I came across this forum on the net, and most members there mentioned that this product did not work, so I would not recommend this!

Great Product
I switched from the 1 percent gel to the 2 percent lotion because the gel didn't work anymore and pills/rolls up under my foundation. I like the lotion much better and it got rid of all the blackheads.

2% BHA Lotion
I loved the original formulation of the 2% BHA lotion. My skin felt soft and it cleared up blemishes. Once out of it, I reordered and what I got was different. It was thick and at first I thought it was sunscreen by mistake because it was so white and would NOT rub in easily. It felt greasy on my face and the next morning I had a mild breakout.
I got a replacement of the 2% BHA Liquid and I'm not sure if I like that either. Why did it have to change and when are you changing it back?! I thought about purchasing the 1% BHA lotion but I'm scared that has changed also.

It's different
Originally I got this lowtion in 2007, I think, and it was just wonderful. I got another bottle several months ago and discovered that somehow consistency is different. Before it used to absorb nicely and quickly and now I have to kep rubbing it in although effect is the same. It's just much more difficult to apply now and it takes awhile to rub it in that cannot be too good. Otherwise love the product. Helps to keep skin clear.

I can't say I like the texture of this product , I find it creamy and thick for a "lotion" I have a hard time getting it out of the bottle it's so thick.Maybe the liquid would be better

Bring back the old Formula-it was the best!
I am another who preferred the old formula. I started using it when it first came out. It was light, yet moisturizing and it kept my skin clear. This formula is too thick, difficult to spread and too greasy to wear under make-up. I also think this has caused me some minor breakouts. Please bring back the old formula-it was fantastic.

2% BHA Lotion causes breakouts
I'm usually happy with your products but the 2% BHA lotion is terrible. Not only is it too thick and doesn't absorb well, I'm also breaking out consistently. I hope you change the formula soon as I used to be a firm believer in all your skincare products.

Break outs!
I am 34 years old and now I have the worst acne of my life after using this product. The acne lesions have now turned cystic and I had to see my physician yesterday. She is starting chemical peels and putting me on antibiotics. My face looks terrible. Just wanted to share my experience even though I know that many people love this product and have not reacted adversely to it like I have. I was also upset that I had to pay for the shipping to return this product. And now I have a long journey and expense ahead of me. My physician said to never spend the money on over the counter skin products again.

Worth the wait
I know some people have been less than happy with the new formula. I was so grateful that it was brought back, I waited many many months to buy it. I have sensitive skin with rosacea, prone to breakouts, flushing, and razor burn and depending on the weather... dry as well. This product works well to keep my skin in check with minimal to no irritation at all. I find it is so effective sometimes my skin gets a little red, so what, so I give it a break for a few days with a regular moisturizer and consider it a treatment. The product is thick... there's a simple solution... store it upside down in your medicine cabinet, apply sparingly after washing when skin is still slightly damp... no problems spreading it here. Given the choices on the market and the price point, who has room to complain? I'm sure Paula and team will update the formula when possible in the future, until then... this one is very effective for me.

Excelent for KP and blemish control
I've used this product for years. It does not irritate or sting my sensitive skin, plays well with other products, and the exfoliation keeps blemishes and keratosis pilaris in check.
Sometimes the lotion base seems to form thin, long crystals though, which affect the texture negatively.

Acne is gone!
I've been using Paula's products for about two years and love them all. However, I just bought the BHA and what a difference! I've struggled with cystic acne on my chin for 10 years, with a new breakout almost everyday. I'm almost 40 years old - this is not what I want to deal with as an adult! Anyway, within 2 weeks of using this product, I have not had any breakouts! In addition, I notice my pores are smaller and I can tell my face is much cleaner even after washing (probably from the telltale dirt on the cotton ball after using the BHA). Thanks! Everything but the package
I love everything about the product but the packaging. My daughter needs to use this for Keratosis ... but managed to break the bottle within a week of opening it. I see from the reviews that it is thicker than it used to be. Maybe the packaging need to change with the formula in order to make it easier to dispense. Love what's inside once I get it out!

The need to reformulate it again!
This lotion used to be great...unfortunately, they just reformulated it resulting in an extremely disappointing product. I love the 2% lotion before the reformulation. However, the lotion I received on my last order is the new formulation and its consistency is VERY different than the previous version. It is quite thick and pretty difficult to rub in. It remains white on my skin almost like a thick sunscreen until I can finally get it to sink in.
Then I layer it with my other paula's choice products and and the 2% lotion cause it to ball up. Very bad!!

I am one of those with keratosis pilaris, and find the 2% BHA lotion quite helpful with that condition. As an extra added bonus, I have found 2% BHA lotion prevents razor bumps in the bikini area! I have never had a product work for me the way this one does, and it is absolutely non-irritating. Thank-you, Paula! I thought I was going to die, when this product was on back-order a while ago. :-)

Fair product!
I waited for a very long time for the reformulated version of this product to be released. I have noticed that when I try to apply with other products layered on my face, it tends to "roll off". Also the bottle seems to be breaking down toward the top. There is an indention and it seems to be collapsing toward the top after using it a short period of time.

good results; poor packaging
Pleased with the product, but would never call it a lotion. It's definitely a thicker cream and is difficult to squeeze out of the bottle. I don't see how I'll ever get it all out. Should be in a more flexible tube instead of a hard plastic bottle.

New formula?
I am a disappointed that the facial 2% BHA lotion has been changed to something more of what the old Body BHA was like.
It's thick and doesn't spread as nicely as it used to. It also has a smell now that is off-putting.
Bring the old one back!

Great for winter
I actually have oily/combo skin but I love this lotion for winter time. My face needs just a little bit of moisture and a lot of exfoliation... so it's a great match!

BHA 2% lotion
I started using Paula's products after reading her book. Most of the products are good except for BHA 2% lotion. This stuff is too thick and greasy. If you have combination skin with acne, don't use the lotion. It will leave your skin terribly oily which may cause more acne. I used the lotion for only 2 nights and I had few more imflamed pimples.

It seems that the options for a good BHA lotion are pretty limited at the drugstore. Therefore I was ecstatic to have found this BHA lotion. Well, that is until I ordered this last bottle and realized that it had been reformulated. It was very disappointing!! The texture is too thick. You really have to spend some time rubbing that sucker. And I know I could haved returned it but it's too much of a hassle paying those shipping and handling fees. So I just kept it. I will not be purchasing this particular item again.

Not Bad- Please go back to old formula
Old formula was so much better. Please read all reviews and make necessary changes. Lotion way too thick now :(

Buy a pump!
For all of you who love the 2% BHA lotion, or any of the PC lotion products, and don't like the packaging, just buy a pump and replace it with the original lid. You will quickly find how easy it is to dispense and apply lotion products.

Bring back the old formula
I know you had to change suppliers and therefore had to change the fomula, but the new one doesn't spread or absorb well. I have uused both the liquid and the gel with success, but I still miss the lotion in it's original formula.(Also please bring back the Weightless Body Treatment--2% Beta Hydroxy Lotion--there is nothing else like it on the market)

PLEASE bring back the old formula
This new formula is just terrible. It's like a thick paste which you have to rub hard to spread. It also leaves your skin very tacky long after the application. The old formulation worked great as a "canvas" for foundation but with the new formula you can't begin to spread make up on evenly. Bring back the OLD please!

Great product, needs better packaging.
This product says what it does, reduces blackheads and surface clogging without drying.It works beautifully in conjunction with Renova. A little goes a long way, so it is a good value as well.
However, the packaging is flimsy- the bottle crumples when you try to squeeze it. I would prefer if this had a pump dispenser.

Not quite as good
I used to love this product, but since the formulation changed it's not quite as good. It still seems to exfoliate the same, but applying it is trickier. The consistency is thicker and takes longer to absorb into the skin.
