The only thing that helped with my acne
About Me Minimalist
Comments about Clear Extra Strength Acne Treatment with 5% Benzoyl Peroxide - 2.25 oz:
I love this stuff! I wouldn't recommend using BHA with this cause I don't really feel a need for this myself and my skin tends to be irritated if I use both. I find benzoyl peroxide way more effective tho.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A month in and....no major breakouts!!
By Jay K. Rene

About Me Beauty Conscious
After running out of the generic 5% benzoyl peroxide gel my dermatologist prescribed me, I was happy to find this product at the same strength and budget friendly price. Upon using the product for the first time (I use it twice a day, morning and night), I've noticed that my breakouts have been less and less frequent, and when I do get a pimple here or there, it dries up with 1 to 2 days. It keeps my pores relatively smaller and my skin more even and less oily throughout the day (which I'm super happy with!!) The only down side to the product for me is that I do notice the liquidy nature and thinness of the formula which translates to it feeling slightly greasy when I initially put it on. It also takes a while for the formula to absorb into my skin, but once it dries after a couple minutes, my skin feels fresh for the rest of day! I only have to use a pea size amount at a time so I'm sure I'll have another 2 month until I have to re order.
Dry, burning, more breakouts!
I had high hopes for this product as I used a drugstore product with similar active ingredients that worked quite well when I was younger. Maybe it's the change in my skin with age, but this product simply does not work for me. Not only does it not work, it leaves my skin extremely flaky (even with proper moisturizing), burns, and seems to cause MORE breakouts. I will not be using this one again.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Works great as a spot treatment
from Liberty Lake, WA
This is a strong acne treatment. Other reviewers have said that it drys out their skin. This is true if you use it anywhere you do not have a blemish. Acne goes away much faster if you remove the top layer of skin over and over. At least with cyst acne, like I get monthly. I apply it one to three times a day; I find more is better, however.

Only for Active Breakouts
By Ashley the Skincare Junkie

About Me Beauty Expert
I have combination skin that leans more oily in the T-zone and normal to dry cheeks. For some reason, I breakout on my cheeks more than anywhere else on my face. The only times I breakout are when it's hormonal and those show up in my chin/lower half of the face and when I don't wash my face at night (which is rarely, but it does happen). I use this product for when I'm actively breaking out and for the scars that the breakouts leave. I'm only using it on the new scars, not scars that have been around for years. And only until I purchase something specifically for the scars. I don't really know if this is cutting down on the time I have a pimple, but I do notice that they don't get as large and they do not turn into whiteheads that hurt.I know that this didn't help with preventing an acne scar from appearing. My skin just tends to leave a brown spot after a pimple has appeared. I've even had some that have been around for years, I'm going to be purchasing a Paula's Choice product specifically for that in the future. I probably will not repurchase this product right away. I would like to try BHA 9 before returning to this product. I know that product can help with breakout since it has such a high concentration of salicylic acid, plus it helps with acne scars, where I haven't notice a difference with those and this product. Also, I have very clogged pores on my nose and chin. They have been clogged for years. I currently use the Resist Toner which makes my skin super soft and smooth in that area, but has helped some with the enlarged pores, but they are still somewhat clogged. If I use this product in the large area of my nose and chin, my skin begins to peel and is sensitive. So I would only use this with active breakouts and resent scars.
Results after 1 day
from Dallas, TX
I use this to spot treat acne flareups. It doesn't take much at all. I apply it when I go to bed under my night moisturizer and in the morning under moisturizer. Basically it's the first thing I put on after I cleanse. Fabulous results. I am going on 5 decades and I have tried many an acne treatment. This one works!

Works well over time
from Danville, IL
I started out using this product all over at night before moisturizing and after toning but it made my skin very irritated and dry all the next day. I also started to peel. But I have started to spot treat at night every couple days. It works well this way in conjunction with lotion, it takes a few days but will dry out a zit diminishing it in size.

Extremely effective if you manage the kick-back

About Me Skin Care Professional
This product is exactly what it says it is. The texture is ultra-light, and it absorbs rapidly. For me this 5% formulation rapidly clears up blemishes that even my BHA and 1% retinol can't completely prevent. As others have mentioned, this concentration of benzoyl peroxide has the potential to cause dryness for a lot of people (myself included), so using it daily may not be practical until skin acclimates. The dryness can sneak up on you, so pay close attention to how your skin responds. On days that certain parts of your skin threaten to flake like a croissant while other parts are trying to sprout blemishes, this product still makes for an amazing spot treatment if you apply it carefully and allow it to dry down fully so that you don't overdose the dry areas.
Death to all moisture
This probably would have prevented or eliminated breakouts if I could have used it enough times to make a real assessment. Sadly, it turns my face into the Sahara. Ouch! So drying. To be fair, benzoyl peroxide has never been good to me, thus I'm not the ideal reviewer. But this has the added negative of not working with moisturizers. When I put a moisturizer on top of this (both right away and after waiting a while), it created weird uneven white patches all over my face. So, no.
