    Allergic reaction
    • I left a positive review several months ago when I started to use the product and loved it. Unfortunately half way through the bottle I started to have severe allergic reaction to it. Overnight my face would turn red and under eye area would swell up enormously (I did not apply the product any near that area). That swelling would stay for at least 2 days even after taking Claritin and applying hydrocortisone ointment. So just be careful using this stuff.

Thanks for your follow-up review! We're sorry this happened and invite you to contact us for further assistance. Allergic reactions can be so tricky. Oftentimes it's not a single product but rather the combination of products an individual uses that ends up being the trigger.

    Excellent results but horrifying smell
    • My skin tolerates it well enough for daily use, but since it’s a weekly treatment I'm trying to cap my use to 3 times/wk. My acne has been dramatically reduced, and red spots from past breakouts have faded. It applies easily and I haven't had any trouble with the packaging, but I keep it in a cabinet & haven't yet attempted to travel with it. I wanted to deduct a star for the awful smell - it frankly reeks, very fishy - but the results are so good I just couldn't.

One of the challenges of having a fragrance-free line is we cannot use masking perfumes to ensure a precise, consistent scent from batch to batch.  While natural variations in the raw materials can sometimes result in inconsistent scent of fragrance-free products, we test and retest to make sure that the effectiveness of the product is very consistent.

The scent or color of natural ingredients may be stronger than expected depending on where those ingredients were harvested.  You’ll be happy to know this is a rare occurrence and we do our best to prevent it whenever we can. The scent is neutralized once you layer it with your serum or moisturizer, and of course if you find it isn’t a fit for you, please contact our Customer Care Team and they can assist you with a refund or exchange!

    New formulations/ Odd Smell
    • I LOVED the old formula and couldn't wait for the new one to be stocked. This product has seriously changed my skin. I've commented before saying how I Loved it and how it's the only thing that reverses my stubborn blackheads without physical removal. The 2% BHA solution is great but I saw significant difference with the 4% foam. I've only used the new formula a cpl days and my skin is smoothing for sure but the fishy smell is a little off putting. It dissipates tho and the results are worth it.

Best skin care product I have ever been in contact with!
    • I have been using PC 2% BHA gel for years and have been very impressed. I have struggled with acne for years, and now am getting very fine lines. I have been out of the BHA 2% gel for past two months, and finally ordered the duo which includes the 4% foam. I have been using this daily to treat my skin, and saw results in less than 24 hours. I was shocked at the results. This is by far the best skin care product that I have come in contact with.

Part 2 - If you don't tolerate benzoyl peroxide, this may not be a good product for you
    • ....and reverse the reaction. The only thing that I can think that caused it is that the 4% has benzoic acid as a preservative and I know that I've had an allergic reaction to benzoyl peroxide many years back. I love Paula's products - this is NOT a criticism (I only gave 3 stars because it's not the right product for me and I couldn't otherwise post a review without a star rating)! The 2% does not have benzoic acid in it, so it does not adversely affect me. Just a heads up in case I'm right.

Part 1 - If you don't tolerate benzoyl peroxide, this may not be a good product for you
    • I have used the BHA 2% without problem (and, in fact, with Resist C15 Super Booster have gotten many compliments on the glow in my skin), so I thought moving up to the 4% would be a no-brainer. I was wrong. I started using the BHA 4% and after a few days had a serious reaction (as in my face turned red as if burned and my eyes puffed up so much I couldn't drive). Fortunately, this was on a Thursday, so I only missed 2 days of work. I took massive amounts of Benadryl and that seemed to slow.....

    Excellent product, packaging needs work
    • Overall very pleased with this product! My pale, sensitive skin didn't show any signs of irritation from the fairly high concentration of salicylic acid or any other ingredients. I think it lives up to being called "retexturizing," since my skin really is smoother. Slowly but surely did see a reduction in the formation of new closed comedones. Only real complaint is the pump. After some airplane travel recently, I noticed it seemed to leak in my bag, and I perhaps lost 1/3 of what I had left.

    Most amazeballs product ever
    • When PC was out of this stuff for a few months I was so choked. I use it on my KP on my arms and my butt. Otherwise I get clogged pores on my rear end. I also use it on my SO's back acne, it dries flare ups overnight. I probably won't ever go without this again. While nothing has gotten rid of the red dots where my follicles are on my arms this stuff keeps them smooth and the follicles unclogged and free of arm pimples.

Worst Breakout of my LIFE (p.s. it DOES smell off!)
    • I was using the Resist Daily Pore-Refining Treatment 2% BHA which seemed to be helping a bit but to speed things along and having read great reviews and watched reviews on youtube I figured I could speed things along by adding this product but that was a MASSIVE mistake. Instead of just a couple of breakouts in specific places I started breaking out (serious cystic acne) EVERYWHERE even places I'd never broken out before later acquiring extremely sensitive skin. Never again.

    Liked at first, but...
    • Like another poster who also has rosacea, I had good results for a while, but I developed redness and puffiness below one of my eyes (and, as with the other poster, I did not get it near my eyes). It feels like a chemical burn. I discontinued use, but still have inflammation. I used the 2/% BHA before, with great results, and I thought this would work for me, but it doesn't :( If your skin is not sensitive, I say go for it. Otherwise, try one of the lower percentages instead.

    Does it degrade over time?
    • When I first purchased this product, I loved it! I even bought an additional one. I began using it every few nights, then every other night. The results were very good. It decreased my breakouts and pore size nicely. It has been several months since I began using it and lately whenever I use it my skin will act like it's been sun burned the next day. It will turn red in areas and will peel. I always use a light touch when I apply. Is it possible that this product degrades over time?

    Customer Service Response
Replied on: Monday, November 17, 2014

All skincare products to degrade over time, yes. In general for products that are open (with some exceptions) it is 12 months, and in unopened products it is about three years.

More effective than Retin-A for acne
    • I have had acne for 20 years and used everything for it - benzoyl peroxide, Paula's other exfoliants, antibiotics, Azelex, Retin-A, and Tazorac, but I still always had a few pimples, and big cystic hormonal ones occasionally. This product works better than all of those combined. I use it every night and haven't had a single pimple in 6 months. Don't need makeup anymore. It controls oil, too. A tip: use one of Paula's toners first so the foam spreads smoothly and you don't need as much.

    Can't Wait
    • I am so excited for this to return. I hope it works the same as before. This is absolute best product I have ever found to clear up my oily, sensitive, acne prone skin. I tired the 5% AHA in it's absence and it broke my skin out everytime I used it. My did tolerate the 10% AHA well but it wasn't as good as the 4%BHA.

    WHY?!
    • This stuff is amazing. I've had blackheads on my t-zone area for years and this is the only thing that has really reversed them almost completely. I started off using the 2% BHA liquid and that also helped but I saw the best results with the retexturizing foam. Its suggested to use weekly but I can actually use it every day and my skin doesn't get irritated which is odd because if I use the 2% BHA liquid twice a day, my skin starts to get dry. My only question, WHY IS IT CONSTANTLY OUT OF STOCK?

    • Swear by this stuff. I have oily, blackhead prone skin (which living LA only makes worse.) I used the 2% liquid for ages, honestly, I never thought it did all that much for me. Few months ago, I bought this, started using it nightly. Difference has been AMAZING! It's a must have for blackhead sufferers. Good but...
    • This product is pretty effective at helping me with mild blackheads and reducing the redness and size of inflammatory acne overnight. However, I find it awkward to fit this product into my skincare routine. I use Tazaroc nightly. Just one night use of 4% salicylic acid probably don't provide too much marginal benefit for me. As of right now I am using it on my chest, back, and shoulder every other night, and it does a good job at keeping my body clear.

I need my foam! Please come back!
    • I started using this product when I had fairly clear skin. The results were very subtle. Over the last month, however, I started having terrible pimples from a new foundation. Well , I did the dumb thing I wasn't supposed to do and tried to pop it, bruising the entire area around it. My mom joking called it Mount Veusvius when she saw it. I used the foam on it for a few nights in a row--and it is completely gone! I need this product back in stock! It is a miracle worker for my skin!

    Too strong for me
    • Initially this worked fine for me. Then the last couple of times I woke up to tight, sensitized skin, puffy eyes - didn't get it anywhere near my eyes - and extensive peeling. I thought at first it might have been the combination of products, but narrowed it down to this one. So I will try using up the remainder somewhere else on my body. I've used all of Paula's other BHA products, including the BHA 9, without issue. I guess this one is just too strong for my skin. (I have rosacea.)

    • This has worked wonders for my skin. I am combination/oily and my skin is not sensitive at all. I have had mystery bumps on my cheeks for many years. I have been using this foam for about 3 months (applying once a week) and I have noticed those bumps are about half the size. My skin texture is greatly improved and I am not breaking out much at all. I love Paula's products, they have saved my skin.

    Love it!
    • I use a LOT of PC products, but this is probably my favorite! I started out using it once/week (while also using the PC Weekly Resurfacing 10% AHA one other night/week). I then bumped it up so that I was alternating using either 4% BHA or 10% AHA every other night, and finally, I started using the 4% BHA every night (I use the 2% BHA Liquid during the day). My skin is oily & not sensitive, & this is probably the PC product that has made the greatest difference in decreasing my acne/blackheads!

    Too strong
    • This product is too strong for me. My skin is aging and oily, not usually sensitive. I added this to my PC lineup in the spring. At first it was fine but then my skin went crazy (red, flaking, hypersensitivity) after a couple of months. I wasn't sure about the cause since I had also switched to different PC sunscreen/moisturizer and BHA (Clear 2% to Resist 2%) also. I tried removing various products from my routine, reducing usage, etc. I finally figured out that this product was the problem.

What makes this product unique?
Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam is an innovative treatment that delivers smoother, younger-looking skin overnight. Specialized technology encapsulates anti-aging superstar salicylic acid for time-released delivery—so you get dramatic results without flaking or signs of irritation.

The unique liquid-to-foam texture feels water-light yet is packed with soothing ingredients that reduce redness, calm inflammation, unclog pores, and reduce symptoms of rosacea. Plant-based antioxidants work with the exfoliating, pore-penetrating action of salicylic acid to stimulate collagen production for firmer, smoother, more radiant skin.

This weekly skin saver not only reduces multiple signs of aging, but also helps fade red marks from breakouts; plus, it's a potent option for banishing stubborn "chicken skin" (keratosis pilaris) on arms or legs. This product has a pH range of 3.5-3.9.

Who is this product for?
Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam is for anyone concerned with signs of aging, enlarged pores, and breakouts. Also excellent for those with rosacea or for treating "chicken skin" (keratosis pilaris). The formula is suitable for all skin types, but best for combination to oily or breakout-prone skin.

NOTE: Those allergic to aspirin (acetylsalicylate) should not use products containing salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid).

Detailed instructions on how/when to apply your Paula's Choice products can be found in our How to Put Together Your Own Skincare Routine article.

Can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment with my regular BHA exfoliant? What about combining it with Resist BHA 9?

Yes, but this isn’t necessary to get great results, and it’s best to see how your skin responds to this treatment before using it with another exfoliant. Otherwise, depending on how much sun damage you have or if you have stubborn breakouts and clogged pores, the combination can enhance the results you’re already getting.

If you’d like to use these two BHAs at the same time, pay attention to how your skin responds and adjust frequency of usage accordingly. When using with one of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants, apply after Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment. If using with Resist BHA 9, apply that spot treatment before or after applying Resist Weekly Retexturizing Treatment.

How frequently can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment? Is using it every day too much?

Most people concerned with signs of aging plus clogged pores/breakouts and oily skin will find that using this treatment 1-3 times per week is perfect. However, you may apply it more often if desired, based on how your skin responds. For some skin types and skin problems it can be helpful to use this treatment up to 5 times per week. For example, those with very oily skin, stubborn clogged pores, or a rough, bumpy skin texture may find more frequent use is preferred. Applying every night is an option, too, but most will find this is overdoing it, especially if you are also using other exfoliants.

If you are struggling with very stubborn acne or other types of breakouts, you may find nightly usage works beautifully for a brief period of time. Once the breakouts are under control, you can reduce frequency of application or begin using one of our other, lower-strength BHA exfoliants daily to maintain the results.

There are so many different BHA exfoliants! How do I choose the best one for me?

Choose the best BHA for you based on your skin type, concerns, and texture preferences. Liquids and gels are great for oily or combination skin; lotions are ideal for normal to dry skin or combination skin with drier areas.

Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment is ideal for normal to oily or combination skin struggling with wrinkles, enlarged pores, breakouts, and rough, uneven skin. Pair this with any of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants to see a significant improvement in all of those concerns, or it may be used alone as your sole BHA exfoliant.

Can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment as my only exfoliant?

Yes, though if you opt to use this as your daily exfoliant, monitor how your skin responds. If you see signs of irritation or flaking, reduce frequency of usage (perhaps to every other night or every couple of nights) or alternate this with one of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants.

What’s the difference between Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment and Resist BHA 9?

Both exfoliants have time-released delivery systems to ensure great results without irritation and both contain salicylic acid, though in different amounts (4% for the Weekly Treatment and 9% for BHA 9). Beyond the percentage of salicylic acid, the other differences are texture, with the Weekly Retexturizing Treatment being liquid-to-foam and BHA 9 being a serum-like fluid.

Finally, Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment is designed for using all over the face, neck, and chest while Resist BHA 9 is meant to be a spot treatment for stubborn imperfections, not an all-over exfoliant. Both work to address multiple concerns, including signs of aging, and both may be used as needed to solve such issues as clogged pores, blackheads, white bumps, and for smoothing the appearance of wrinkles.

Can Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment be used on the body, such as for dry, cracked heels?

Yes! This treatment may be used on areas of thickened, built-up skin on knees, feet, elbows, etc. At night, apply a thin layer and follow with an emollient moisturizer. The next morning you’ll wake up to dramatically softer, smoother skin!

I have KP (keratosis pilaris) and products with 2% salicylic acid haven’t helped. Will this work?
