A good product if used carefully
    • I bought this and followed directions. A weekly all-over application worked well three times, so I was shocked when the next use left my face red, stinging, and flaky for nearly a week. I've since discovered that this is a great, if pricey, spot treatment alternative to benzoyl peroxide. It kills stubborn zits overnight. I use and recommend it highly for that purpose, but caution everyone against full-face use unless you ease into it. It's very strong; the side effects can be painful and ugly.

    nice product
    • I was a little nervous about applying the product to my whole face as I have reactive sensitive skin after reading some of the reviews. I applied to my whole face and followed with my moisturizer. I left product on all night. I did not have any redness or negative reaction from using this product as recommended. I plan on using once a week as recommended. Will update again after a month or so of use.

    Burned my face
    • My skin is oily with dehydrated areas. I'm prone to black heads and white heads. I only used this product several times over the past year. First couple of times I thought everything was fine but it was too soon to tell if product worked. Upon the last three applications, twice my skin was left extremely itchy for four or five days, and after the last application I was left with a burn. My face was left red, scaling and painful for a week - not a good look for work. So sensitive types beware.

    Not For My Sensitive Skin
    • I have been using Paula's 2% BHA products to control step on my face. This 4% formula seems to be too concentrated for my skin. It caused red marks on my delicate facial skin. I tried it more than once and the same thing happened each time I used it. I am finishing the bottle by using it to treat acne on other parts of my body where the skin isn't so delicate. I won't reorder once the bottle is finished. I also don't like the way this product smells. I will stick to PC 2% BHA products in future.

Have to Very Careful Around Eyes
    • This really works, but beware. The first time my eyelids got swollen and my skin peeled around my eyes.... even though I certainly did NOT apply it on my eyes. I thought it was a fluke caused by something I ate, but I used the 4% again a week later, and it happened again. I almost gave up---wouldn't you?---but the 2% BHA is my miracle product, so I gave the 4% yet another chance. This time, I only applied to lower face, to avoid any chance drips from the forehead, & that finally worked for me.

    Continuing review below!
    • Ahhh, ran out of room! Anyway, all that being said, in my review below, it is all worth it for the benefits that this product brings to my skin. If you are really suffering from problem skin, try to stick with it anyway, using every few days in the evening only, and maybe a half hour to an hour before going to bed so the stickiness goes away before laying your head on your pillow :) For me the benefits, way outweigh the trouble! I haven't had a painful cyst in months and month. A miracle.

    Possible help for negative experiences...
    • I have literally never written a review before but as a previous chronic hormonal cystic acne sufferer, if I can at all help someone and their skin, it is worth a shot! :) So, I LOVE this stuff, nothing makes my skin feel smooth and look radiant like this product does. That being said, I do agree that it is sticky, and a little unpleasant feeling upon application. Also, my skin is very red after applying. I only use it before bed. It is way too strong for me to use nightly.

    Luuuuuuv it!
    • I've seen a difference in just 2 applications, now I have olive skin so my skin doesn't seem to be as sensitive as others with fairer skin might be. I do detect a slight fishy smell that others have mentioned but it goes away when the foam dries...although in this case I wouldn't mine a little fragrance, but it will not deter me from ordering this product again!

    Sinfully good! ...redux
    • Please don't tinker with the formulation ever again. This is my BFF in a bottle. It's as gentle and innocuous as water on my face, yet packs the apocalyptic power of a tsunami of doom and gloom for the skin's woes and foes. It's a p. acnes genocide up in here and the only kind I would ever throw my money at with glee. I'm sure I could use it every night, but I've opted for every other night, alternating with the 1-2 punch of the 2% Pore-Refining Exfoliant and 1% Retinol. This is love and war.

    • If I had to pick a champion among PC's vast array of life-changing products, this may be it. I love everything about it. The compact size, the foaming action, the smoothness of its application, the way it sinks in, how great it preps my skin for the treatment and moisturizing steps. Oh, and it NUKES acne in all its iterations. Pores are clearer than ever. Skin is more radiant than its been since pre-puberty. I even adore the scent that's putting most people off. Got a tinge of sweetness to it.

    Sinfully good!
    • Never bought into the hype of BHAs until I started using this regularly. The Skin Perfecting 2% Liquid gave me contact dermatitis on the face, sadly. I gave this 4% foam a try on its launch, and while I never got a skin reaction, I feel like it gave me a weird stimulant-like jolt that made me jittery and brought on mild headaches. So, I never committed to it and sent it back. Once it was reformulated, I decided to give it another go. I'm so glad I did, because now I finally understand the love.

    Ouch!!
    • I used the original formula and never had any issues. Not sure if I got a bad batchof this new version but this one smells so so bad and had such a bad effect on my skin and eyes. Skin got red and burned. Woke up with VERY swollen, bluish red bags under my eyes. First time I wasn't sure it was the product, I thought it may have been a food I ate. So I gave it another shot about a month later. Big mistake!! Same bad reaction! So disappointed...

    • I had such hopes, but unfortunately, I put this on as directed, took a 20-minute nap, and woke up to a splotchy face with tiny red dots all over. You could see exactly where I had put on the treatment - it was like I was wearing a chicken pox mask.

    Best BHA to date!
    • Hands down the best and most effective BHA I've used. I love the lightweight foam texture which absorbs instantly an leaves no residue (unlike most other BHA products in the PC range which either take long to dry or leave a sticky residue behind). I use it almost every day and it keeps blackheads at bay and has greatly diminished the frequency of my -almost weekly- breakouts to about once every 3 weeks. Well done Paula! :)

    Doesn't do much
    • I bought this since I've had such wonderful results with BHA's from Paula's Choice. It didn't do anything for my acne and it felt like soap on my face. This was a complete miss for me which sucked because I really wanted to be happy with this. The CLEAR Extra Strength Exfoliant does an amazing job and keeps my skin clear 24/7, along with the Regular 2% BHA Exfoliant so I'm not sure why this product would be any different.

    best product ever!
    • My almost 16 year old has struggled with acne for 3 years. We have tried everything and nothing has worked. Right before putting him on medication I purchased this. In 2 weeks his severe acne was less. The blackheads covering his forehead reduced dramatically. At 1 month its even better with little to no reoccurring acne. There are no visible pores on his nose at this point. It does smell like cat pee but the scent fades quickly.

    Horrible reaction
    • I have absolutely loved all of the products I have purchased from Paula's Choice, with the exception of this one. I broke out in awful itchy red bumps all over my face. I just wanted to scratch my skin off because it hurt so bad. I could barely stand to rest my face on my pillow at night. Prior to using this, I have been stopped by strangers and c complimented on my complexion.

    Rash
    • I recently started using the Paula's choice line and have been loving all the products, but this one has given me a painful red and bumpy rash, the areas I applied it look like a red bumpy orange peel. I tried it on two separate occasions and the first rash took about 4 days to fade and smooth out. I tried it on my wrist to see if it was an allergic reaction and nothing happened so i attempted on my face again but broke out in a red rash and new blemishes :( need to return.

I broke out in a rash
    • I generally love Paula's products and had high hopes for this one…but unfortunately it caused me to break out in a rash. I used it once per week (three times), and in retrospect the rash appeared after the first use but wasn't very pronounced so I used it again the following two weeks. I got redish dry itchy bumps on my face and neck. Sadly, I will have to return this product.

Not much for help with blackheads
    • I have lightly oily skin around the T zone. The only concern I have with my skin is blackheads. I purchased the 4% BHA foam in May 2013, I've used it almost every night just on my nose and forehead, and I use the 2% BHA liquid in the morning. However, I'm afraid I'm not seeing any results. My blackheads have not diminished. I'm quite disappointed but I've not given up, Paula's other products have been amazing. I'm trying the BHA9 to see if it will help, but if it doesn't I'm truly out of ideas.

    Customer Service Response
Replied on: Monday, December 29, 2014

Thanks for your feedback. Don't give up, some blackheads can be very stubborn, especially if they've "taken root" for years. One thing you can consider is seeing an esthetician for manual extraction of blackheads. This can help a lot, and then the BHA exfoliants you use at home can keep your skin in maintenance mode, so any new blackheads are dissolved before they even show up! Success!

    LOVE
    • For months I had tiny bumps all over my skin that would never surface, it drove me nuts! No acne product worked on me. I came across Goss Makeup Artist on YouTube and he talked about this product really getting into the pore and cleaning it out. I decided to give it a shot and purchased this. I am so glad I did!!!!! Over the last month my pores have been looking much smaller and ALL of my under the skin pimples surfaced. My skin tone is looking much more smooth and my breakouts have reduced!!

    Great product for combination skin
    • I am a 20-something with combination skin that tends to flare up in the North East winters. I decided to try a stronger exfoliate to help and this really did the job! I have been using it twice a week and it has been reducing the oil and dry patches that were appearing. I do recommend definitely making sure to stay clear of your eyes when putting on the product! It will burn! The smell like others have said is a little off putting, but not enough to make me stop using the product.

    Allergic reaction
    • I left a positive review several months ago when I started to use the product and loved it. Unfortunately half way through the bottle I started to have severe allergic reaction to it. Overnight my face would turn red and under eye area would swell up enormously (I did not apply the product any near that area). That swelling would stay for at least 2 days even after taking Claritin and applying hydrocortisone ointment. So just be careful using this stuff.

Thanks for your follow-up review! We're sorry this happened and invite you to contact us for further assistance. Allergic reactions can be so tricky. Oftentimes it's not a single product but rather the combination of products an individual uses that ends up being the trigger.

What makes this product unique?
Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam is an innovative treatment that delivers smoother, younger-looking skin overnight. Specialized technology encapsulates anti-aging superstar salicylic acid for time-released delivery—so you get dramatic results without flaking or signs of irritation.

The unique liquid-to-foam texture feels water-light yet is packed with soothing ingredients that reduce redness, calm inflammation, unclog pores, and reduce symptoms of rosacea. Plant-based antioxidants work with the exfoliating, pore-penetrating action of salicylic acid to stimulate collagen production for firmer, smoother, more radiant skin.

This weekly skin saver not only reduces multiple signs of aging, but also helps fade red marks from breakouts; plus, it's a potent option for banishing stubborn "chicken skin" (keratosis pilaris) on arms or legs. This product has a pH range of 3.5-3.9.

Who is this product for?
Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam is for anyone concerned with signs of aging, enlarged pores, and breakouts. Also excellent for those with rosacea or for treating "chicken skin" (keratosis pilaris). The formula is suitable for all skin types, but best for combination to oily or breakout-prone skin.

NOTE: Those allergic to aspirin (acetylsalicylate) should not use products containing salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid).

Can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment with my regular BHA exfoliant? What about combining it with Resist BHA 9?

Yes, but this isn’t necessary to get great results, and it’s best to see how your skin responds to this treatment before using it with another exfoliant. Otherwise, depending on how much sun damage you have or if you have stubborn breakouts and clogged pores, the combination can enhance the results you’re already getting.

If you’d like to use these two BHAs at the same time, pay attention to how your skin responds and adjust frequency of usage accordingly. When using with one of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants, apply after Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment. If using with Resist BHA 9, apply that spot treatment before or after applying Resist Weekly Retexturizing Treatment.

How frequently can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment? Is using it every day too much?

Most people concerned with signs of aging plus clogged pores/breakouts and oily skin will find that using this treatment 1-3 times per week is perfect. However, you may apply it more often if desired, based on how your skin responds. For some skin types and skin problems it can be helpful to use this treatment up to 5 times per week. For example, those with very oily skin, stubborn clogged pores, or a rough, bumpy skin texture may find more frequent use is preferred. Applying every night is an option, too, but most will find this is overdoing it, especially if you are also using other exfoliants.

If you are struggling with very stubborn acne or other types of breakouts, you may find nightly usage works beautifully for a brief period of time. Once the breakouts are under control, you can reduce frequency of application or begin using one of our other, lower-strength BHA exfoliants daily to maintain the results.

There are so many different BHA exfoliants! How do I choose the best one for me?

Choose the best BHA for you based on your skin type, concerns, and texture preferences. Liquids and gels are great for oily or combination skin; lotions are ideal for normal to dry skin or combination skin with drier areas.

Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment is ideal for normal to oily or combination skin struggling with wrinkles, enlarged pores, breakouts, and rough, uneven skin. Pair this with any of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants to see a significant improvement in all of those concerns, or it may be used alone as your sole BHA exfoliant.

Can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment as my only exfoliant?

Yes, though if you opt to use this as your daily exfoliant, monitor how your skin responds. If you see signs of irritation or flaking, reduce frequency of usage (perhaps to every other night or every couple of nights) or alternate this with one of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants.

What’s the difference between Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment and Resist BHA 9?

Both exfoliants have time-released delivery systems to ensure great results without irritation and both contain salicylic acid, though in different amounts (4% for the Weekly Treatment and 9% for BHA 9). Beyond the percentage of salicylic acid, the other differences are texture, with the Weekly Retexturizing Treatment being liquid-to-foam and BHA 9 being a serum-like fluid.

Finally, Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment is designed for using all over the face, neck, and chest while Resist BHA 9 is meant to be a spot treatment for stubborn imperfections, not an all-over exfoliant. Both work to address multiple concerns, including signs of aging, and both may be used as needed to solve such issues as clogged pores, blackheads, white bumps, and for smoothing the appearance of wrinkles.

Can Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment be used on the body, such as for dry, cracked heels?

Yes! This treatment may be used on areas of thickened, built-up skin on knees, feet, elbows, etc. At night, apply a thin layer and follow with an emollient moisturizer. The next morning you’ll wake up to dramatically softer, smoother skin!
