    Really Surprising
    • I just got carded, buying a bottle of wine at the store - and I'm turning 40 in 6 months! Of course, when that happened, my first thought was "Thank you Paula!" I have been using this line for about a month, and I cannot believe how wonderful my skin feels. I honestly can't remember it ever having felt this good before in my life. I no longer have that dry tightness that screams out for moisture, or that rough, filmy feeling once the moisture is applied. I also no longer have breakouts.

    Finally an Approach that Works
    • My prescription gel to control rosacea works well (much better than when I thought I had acne and using the wrong products!) but leaves my skin a bit dry, irritated and often very red and tight . So I began Paula's Skin Recovery system two weeks ago. Today the redness is controlled and my face feels as smooth as baby's skin from the moisturizer. I like that this kit leaves off the serum, which my skin didn't seem to like based on a sample. The BHA lotion is helping even out some imperfections.

    rosacea worsened
    • Experienced a bad reaction to these products. My face reddened, became inflamed and was painful, similar to a bad sunburn. I, of course was disappointed and was hoping to alleviate the redness on my face from rosacea. I returned the products and ordered the Resist products which work well for my sensitive skin.

WAY LESS RED & Feels So Good !
    • I have just started using this system yesterday & already it has calmed my skin down so much that I would feel comfortable being seen without makeup. Up intil the last few years, I had great skin & I could use anything. I am coming up on my 54th BD & now everything turns me red. I've been searching for something to help & nothing has til now! I came back to order some samples of other things to try. Since I just started this using these products, I expect my results to get better and better.

    Perfect for winter months!
    • Cold weather, cold wind, dry heat all make my Rosacea so much worse. I really dread winter for that very reason, but this system is so very helpful. I also use the Skin Recovery Treatment Mask over top of the Skin Recovery SPF 15 when I need to go outside or when I feel a flare up coming on. FYI... In summer I use the Hydralight System since it is warm and humid where I live and I don't require all that moisturizer. It has taken significant experimentation to find the right products for me, but these two system's seem to work the best for me. Very happy with the results.

    Great for sensitive skin
    • I have been using this system for about two weeks and am completely satisfied with it so far. I have very sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts, with redness and overall dryness. I began using this system at the same time I gave up prescription Atralin (tretinoin), so I was worried about breaking out. But the products are so gentle; no burning at all. At the same time, they seem to be very effective, as my skin is already less dry and has a more even skin tone. The cleanser works well; removes makeup. The toner is gentle and refreshing. The BHA lotion has a nice cucumber scent and feels very smooth like a primer. The AM and PM moisturizers are both great as well. I'm looking forward to trying other Paula's Choice products because so far, I am very impressed!

    not for my skin
    • Unfortunately this just didn't work for me. Over the past few weeks, my skin has only become drier and more irritated, even when I don't use the BHA in the kit. I felt like I was constantly having to add moisturizer to my face. By the end of the day, I had little bumps all over and definitely dried out. Customer Care Response: Thank you for your comments. We will be sure to share your feedback with Paula and her Product Development Manager. They do take customer feedback seriously. In the meantime we encourage you to contact customer care to discuss your skin type and routine. We are happy to make other product suggestions and arrange for samples to be sent out. If you have any further questions or concerns please let us know, we are always more than happy to help.

    Amazingly fast results!
    • I received my product less than one week ago. The day after I used it for the first time, the girls at work thought I had new makeup! My skin looked soo good and my makeup went on so much better, that they could not believe it was the skin care and not new makeup. The Redness Relief is a miracle! Both my daughter and I had ugly blemishes from our monthly visitor. We dabbed a bit on and within 12 hours, they had shrunk, and on their way to becoming nothing but a small spot! Better than proactive blemish cream!!! I will never go back to the expensive, less effective products that I was using. I am now anxiously awaiting my new foundation. Yay me!! Customer Care Response: Thank you for such a glowing review! We are glad to hear you are happy with your products! If you ever have any questions or need assistance please feel free to contact customer care. We are always happy to assist you.

Amazing Results in Just 2 Days!!
    • My husband has advanced Sjogrens. This disease causes skin lesions and with him on a imunosuppressant they can take up to a month or more to heal. Customer Service Rocks!! I explained the situation to them & received the samples. Within TWO DAYS of using the samples his lesions have already started to heal!He was one of those guys who didn't feel it necessary to have a skin regimen. It took months to convince him, just baby steps. Its changed his whole attitude & mental state (with the disease comes dementia).I love you guys, thank you isn't even close to adequate. God bless you Paula & all your wonderful staff!

    Life Saving!
    • I have moderate rosacea and after using this kit, for the first time in many years, I am able to be red free! This has reduced my redness sooo much! I'll be honest and I thought I would shop around rather than re-order, but I'm not willing to go back to how my face used to me or again have the itching on my face or the painful cysts! Can't recommend enough and I tried everything out there for rosacea except prescrition medicine!

    Excellent redness reduction
    • I have very fair Irish skin with significant sun damage. Previously, I could only tolerate emu oil on my irritated face. This system reduced the swelling, redness, surfaced capillaries, and clogged pores on my face. It contains the only sunscreen that does not burn my skin and eyes like the fires of Hell, and that includes many zinc/titanium products marketed for babies or sensitive skin. The 1% BHA does tingle on raw patches, but its whitening effect makes it worth enduring. It did not improve my deeply etched wrinkles, but I think that's too much to ask of cosmetics. Highly recommended!

Skin Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser:

Do I still need to use an eye or face makeup remover?

It depends on how much eye or face makeup you are using or if you are wearing waterproof mascara, waterproof makeup, or other hard-to-remove makeup. Otherwise, this cleanser effectively removes most types of makeup. If you feel you need an a separate makeup remover, Paula's Choice Gentle Touch Makeup Remover is ideal.

How does Skin Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser differ from the other Paula's Choice Cleansers-how do I know which one is best for me?

Paula's Choice Skin Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser is slightly more emollient than Moisture Boost One Step Face Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin, which makes it preferred for someone with dry to very dry skin. It is also more emollient than Resist Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser, though both the Resist and Skin Recovery Cleanser are great for dry skin of any age.

I have normal to dry skin on my cheeks but my T-zone is oily - would Skin Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser work for me?

While it is an option, your best bet would be to try Moisture Boost One Step Face Cleansers for Normal to Dry Skin first. If you prefer a gel cleanser, consider Hydralight One Step Cleanser for Normal to Oily/Combination Skin.

I have normal to dry skin that gets noticeably drier in the winter - would Skin Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser be a good seasonal choice?

Yes! This would be a very good choice for normal to dry skin during the winter months.

Will this cleanser make me break out?

This cleanser is extremely unlikely to cause blemishes. However, normal to oily and blemish-prone skins will likely find this cleanser too emollient for their skin type.

Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner:

What do toners "tone"? I thought Paula didn't recommend toners!

Paula has always recommended toners that are well-formulated. Toners can be a great after-cleansing step to be sure you've removed all your makeup. When properly formulated, they soothe skin and provide an extra dose of antioxidants and repairing ingredients.

How do I know which toner is right for me? Besides skin type, what are the main differences between Paula's Choice toners?

All of our toners restore skin, help remove last traces of makeup, are alcohol- and fragrance-free, and contain no unnecessary irritants such as menthol, peppermint, and citrus oils. They are great as an adjunct to a more thorough cleansing routine, especially post-workout or in hot/humid climates. Even more significantly, they go beyond the basics by offering skin benefits you can see and feel.

Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner is a specialized formula designed to supply normal to dry aging skin with a broad range of ingredients it needs to produce healthy collagen while reducing wrinkles. It is a super-charged version of our popular Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner, with a specific emphasis on improving the signs of aging skin.

Resist Weightless Advanced Repairing Toner is a specialized formula designed to supply normal to oily or breakout-prone aging skin with a broad range of targeted ingredients to help improve signs of aging plus reduce enlarged pores and reduce dry, flaky, uneven skin texture. It is ideal for those struggling with oily skin, wrinkles, and large pores.

Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner for normal to very dry skin is an excellent choice for those who need more help protecting their skin from environmental damage or dryness. Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner has a richer texture than any of our other toners and contains more plant oils and other emollients than our Moisture Boost Essential Hydrating Toner. This is a great option for dry to very dry skin, extremely sun damaged skin, or those dealing with eczema or rosacea accompanied by dry skin.

Moisture Boost Essential Hydrating Toner contains ingredients that help soothe and restore normal to dry skin, plus it includes a greater amount of glycerin, a key ingredient to make dry skin look and feel better. It also contains a broad range of ingredients that aid the barrier repair process so those with dry skin (or normal skin with occasional dry patches) will receive even more benefit from their Paula’s Choice moisturizer and/or specialty product. Moisture Boost Essential Hydrating Toner feels lighter than our Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner, yet still provides an array of antioxidants, anti-irritants, and skin-protecting ingredients. To get the benefits of both toners for normal to dry skin, you can use Moisture Boost Essential Hydrating Toner in the morning and Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner in the evening.

Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner for normal to oily/combination skin is excellent for protecting skin from environmental damage or dryness. In addition, its cell-communicating ingredients can, in theory, help balance skin so its oily areas do not worsen or lead to reddened or blemished skin. Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner uses a more complex formulation than our Hydralight Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner, and helps restore normal cell function.

Hydralight Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner is an excellent choice for normal to oily/combination skin. It provides a weightless finish, and although it feels very light, it supplies skin with potent antioxidants and anti-irritants. Hydralight Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner is a great option for those who want more protection and a soothing, soft, feeling on their skin, particularly those with sensitive skin. To get the benefits of both toners for normal to oily/combination skin, you may want use Hydralight Healthy Skin Refreshing Toner in the morning and Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner in the evening.

Earth Sourced Purely Natural Refreshing Toner is for all skin types. It has a distinctive, liquid-gel formula bursting with antioxidants proven to repair skin and stimulate collagen production. The formula uses proprietary technology that truly captures the best of nature and modern science.

Skin Perfecting 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant:

What's the difference between AHA and BHA exfoliants? Do I need both?

When properly formulated, both AHAs and BHA are brilliant options for exfoliating the surface of skin. Both AHA and BHA work to reduce wrinkles, stimulate collagen, and firm skin but each has its special qualities you'll want to consider when deciding which one to use:

  • AHAs are preferred for sun-damaged and dry skin because they exfoliate on the surface of skin and have the added benefit of also improving moisture content.
  •  BHA is preferred for oily, acne-prone skin and for treating blackheads and white bumps because BHA can get through the oil that's clogging your pores, normalizing the lining of the misshapen pore that contributes to acne.
  • BHA has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action. Those are two more reasons to use a BHA exfoliant if you have acne or sensitive, reddened skin.
  • BHA is preferred for those struggling with rosacea. Not everyone with rosacea can tolerate an exfoliant, but it is wise to experiment with a BHA product to see how your rosacea responds.

If your skin is sun-damaged and you're also struggling with acne or clogged pores, add a BHA product to your routine.

If you'd like to use an AHA and BHA at the same time, that is an option, though not really necessary. Some people find they work well when they're applied at the same time, but if you want to give this a try it is best to apply them separately, one during the day and one in the evening.

How do I use an AHA or BHA exfoliant?

  • You can apply an AHA or BHA product once or twice a day.
  • You can also apply either of these around the eye area but not on the eyelid or directly under the eye.
  • Apply the AHA or BHA product after your face is cleansed and after your toner has dried.
  • Once the AHA or BHA has been absorbed, you can apply any other product in your routine, such as moisturizer, serum, eye cream, sunscreen, and/or foundation.
  • If you're using a topical prescription product such as Renova, other retinoids, or any of the topical prescription products for rosacea, apply the BHA or AHA first.

Your AHA (glycolic acid) products have a higher percentage than your BHA (salicylic acid) products. Does this mean AHA is a stronger exfoliant?

AHA products are most effective at a 5% to 10% concentration and BHA at 1% to 2% concentration. Think about it like making bread, the amount of yeast you need is tiny in comparison to the amount of flour you use but equally important to get the results you want. The percentage of effectiveness varies depending on the ingredient. Rest assured that the BHA products are not any less effective due to lower concentrations of the exfoliant.

What strength of BHA should I use? Will a higher concentration provide better and faster results?

Which BHA strength you opt to use should be based on your skin type and the stubbornness (or severity) of your acne, white bumps, or blackheads. The 1% BHA strength is a great starting point to see how using a pH-correct BHA can improve the skin's condition. The 2% concentrations can be something you step up to if and when the need arises or if your skin isn't responding well enough to the 1% concentration.

At what point after my laser and/or peel procedure can I begin using my BHA exfoliant again?

First, we urge you to follow the post-procedure instructions your doctor or nurse provided. If nothing was mentioned about when to resume use of a BHA exfoliant, please contact the doctor's office where you had the procedure done. Otherwise, our general advice is to begin using your BHA again as soon as possible. Or, if your skin seems extra-sensitive, you may want to wait and apply the BHA exfoliant a few days post-procedure. Salicylic acid is an excellent anti-inflammatory ingredient that can enhance skin's natural healing process as it works to reduce post-procedure redness.

Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30:

Should I reapply Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 during the day?

For casual wear, meaning less than two hours total time out in the sun, it is not necessary to reapply sunscreen as you will be protected all day. If you are perspiring or just spending a longer period of time outdoors, it should be reapplied. You may also touch up your sun protection by applying a pressed powder with sunscreen, such as Paula's Choice Healthy Finish Pressed Powder SPF 15.

How is Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 different from Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex SPF 30?

Although both products provide reliable broad-spectrum sun protection, they do so using completely different active ingredients. Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 contains mineral actives (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide) while Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex SPF 30 contains synthetic active ingredients such as avobenzone. Because of this, Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 is preferred for sensitive or rosacea-affected skin. The other notable difference is that Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30 is a more sophisticated formula designed to be used as part of the comprehensive Skin Recovery routine. Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex SPF 30 is a very good daytime moisturizer for those seeking a simpler routine that covers the basics.

How is Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 different from Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 25?

Although both products provide reliable broad-spectrum sun protection, Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 25 offers a greater amount of sun protection. The Resist formula contains titanium dioxide as its active ingredient while Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion contains a blend of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Both formulas contain antioxidants to help defend skin against signs of aging, but each has its own blend. Texture-wise, these two daytime moisturizers with sunscreen are quite similar. Both provide hydration and a silky, radiant finish those with normal to dry skin will appreciate best. Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 25 leaves less of a sheen on skin when compared to Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30.
