About Me Beauty Conscious
Comments about RESIST Daily Smoothing Treatment 5% AHA - 1.7 oz:
I have to do a review because reading them had helped me so much. I hope to help others. My skin was never that bad, hormonal acne- sometimes pretty nasty but mostly small pimples here and there, I was used to it. I suddenly experienced severe acne which started as hundreds of clogged pores and with treatment, became horrible cystic acne, pustules, papules- really awful things I had never experienced before. Long story short no dr really knows exactly what caused this sudden onset but here's what I do know. I fist used Neutrogena bha which at first was ok but lead to cystic acne worse. Then I went on rx retinal and that gave me, what I'm told was a reaction, basically the worst cystic acne combined with blisters all over my face. Here's the good news. I knew i had to get back to my normal, this wasn't normal for me. I addressed that - hormones, etc and antibiotic for a month. Once everything calmed and cleared (3-5 months) I had horrible red and brown spots everywhere! Not scars per se but would not go away. You know the lovely reminder of all that acne you had. I have been using the 5% aha for 2 months. Great results after 1 month, pretty much amazing after 2. My skin is better than ever and almost no left over reminder of that horrible time. I have almost perfect skin now. I use the 5% nightly, I take a break if I feel extra dry. Use 10% occasionally. I like this formula. I tried the original 8% aha and didn't like it for my skin. I still want to try s good quality Bha again but I'm nervous and not there yet.

I used this product for the first time (in a couple of years) while staying over night at a conference. I woke up at 4 am in the hotel with a burning face and got up to frantically wash it off with ice cold water. I thought I might have to go to the hospital due to a chemical burn. When I got up in the morning, I looked like I had a major sunburn. I covered it up with make up as best as I could, but I still was quite red, and so uncomfortable. The next day my skin was all bumpy and gross, but felt less hot, thank goodness. It was painful, scary, and difficult to explain to my colleagues, however, I was mostly relieved that I washed it off when I did, so it didn't end up as severe a reaction as I experienced once when I used PC Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol, which temporarily deformed my face due to swelling. I think with both products, they must have increased the potency, since I had used both before without issue. Over all, I still love the other PC products I use and it's hard to find any alternatives that meet my requirements. I will be phoning customer service to request at least a refund, since I obviously won't be able to use the rest of the bottle.

Feels good on my skin, slight packaging problem
from Western Massachusetts
About Me Minimalist
It feels great on applying, but too soon to know if it helps improve my skin. I hate applying moisturizer over it--it seems to take away its effect. My one packaging concern: The bottle had been relabeled and the new label peeled away when I took the cap off for the first time. I had to tape the label back on, so it doesn't look great on my shelf.

Love this AHA!
from Seattle, WA
I LOVE this AHA. It's the first AHA product I've used, and I happened on it by accident. I had a sample packet of it, and decided to give it a try one night and woke up with radiant, smooth skin! I immediately bought a full-size bottle and have recommended it several friends with good results. My skin is sensitive and this has never bothered it and it consistently smooths my skin. I've been using it for about three months and I have noticed improvements in my skin tone and less breakouts. The packaging is perfect, too, since it protects the ingredients from air and light and dispenses the right amount.

Packaging is the only downside
By Deb loves Paula
from San Mateo
Product is great, love all of Paula's products! However, I find that it's hard to get all of the product out of the packaging. I unscrewed the top and put upside down and using a cotton swab, I was able to get product for another 2 weeks after the pump stopped producing. I find this with most packaging, but at least the tubes I can cut open. I want packages that I can easily open and get to every last drop.

Samples are good to try.
Even though I was quite happy with the Resist 2%BHA, I kept reading about advantages of AHA and was persuaded I should try one so I requested a couple of sample packets.I liked the texture of this product but both times I tried using it (a month apart) I developed large, cystic blemishes. AHAs (or at least this one) are apparently not for me. I'm so glad I just requested samples rather than buying a full-size bottle. No more experiments for me, I'll keep on with the BHA.

About Me Beauty Expert
I use this every day (sometimes twice) and it is really, really great. My skin responds well to AHA, so there's no stinging, and it really helps all my other skin products (serums, oils, moisturizers, acne treatments) sink in better. The first few days it made my skin shed (gross, I know) but not peel - it immediately looked brighter and glowier. If I go a few days without it, the difference is very noticeable.

My only holy grail skincare product
By The Doctor
I have fallen in love with this product, and I am a merciless skincare junkie who has gone through dozens of products. This one is absolutely perfect for my skin (41 year old male; slightly dry but with some oil, mainly on my nose; just starting to show signs of aging). It provides just the right amount of exfoliation (you can feel a gentle tingle; I hate weak exfoliators) and makes my skin smooth, even-toned, with a healthy glow, and best of all I am convinced that it firms my skin with repeated use (perhaps due to increasing collagen). It is lightweight, soaks into skin beautifully, has a pleasant light natural scent that disappears, and is not greasy at all. I will often follow it with a light moisturizer. Paula's Choice was out of stock for this product for months and I was freaking out that it was never coming back. You guys should NEVER stop making this!

Great daily AHA treatment
from Los Angles, CA
I have an olive complexion with some sensitivity, and normal-oily combination skin that can get very greasy in the T-zone. I was fairly convinced that BHA was needed to clear out my clogged pores, and have been trying all the PC BHA exfoliants to find the right one for me. While I was ordering samples, I figured I would also try the AHAs to see what they were about. To my surprise and delight, AHA seems to be very effective on my skin! I have already tried (and wrote positive reviews for) the 8% and 10% AHA treatments. Over the last couple of days, I have tried Resist 5% Daily AHA, and like it very much as well.Resist 5% AHA has a pearly-brownish color with an inoffensive natural scent that reminds me of B-vitamin complex. The product spreads very easily, soaks in quickly and is non-irritating. The scent dissipates right away. It doesn't leave me greasy at all. It does dry a little bit sticky in some areas, but any lingering stickiness completely goes away if other non-sticky products (eg serum) are subsequently applied. Since it is a lower concentration, I didn't get the dramatic overnight effects I saw with the 8% and 10% products. However, Resist 5% AHA is gentle enough to be used daily, and I did see noticeable improvement in my skin texture after 2 days of using it 1x per day.Although AHA seems to be marketed towards those with dryer skin, it might be just the thing that is needed for rough patches that don't seem to respond otherwise, even if you have oily skin. It is great that PC offers samples--I probably would have overlooked this great product otherwise! I definitely would consider a full purchase of this product.

Love the texture
from London, ON
I use this almost every day. Light enough to use in the morning under sunscreen and makeup. I love the texture. I would give it 5 stars, except that there is always a small "chunk" of dried out product at the start of each new pump, so I feel like a little bit is getting wasted each time I apply. I have combination skin and am prone to hormonal breakouts. I find this helps keep my acne in check. Love this product.
