Missing AM step
Comments about RESIST Daily Smoothing Treatment 5% AHA - 1.7 oz:
I have tended to stick exclusively to BHA formulas since I started using Paula's a few years ago. I have tricky ultra sensitive skin that is very prone both to dehydration and congestion. My go-to is the CLEAR Regular Strength 2% BHA formula, but I found using that too much diminished the results and I would wind up with flaky skin around my nose and chin, and just a duller appearance to my skin in general. On the flip side, reducing use without a replacement also diminished results.I have not had much luck with AHA formulas before this one, since I tend to experience stinging with them. About a month ago I realized I was missing the exfoliation step in the mornings since I bumped the BHA down to only 1x daily at night. The benefits since adding this have been obvious. I use the CALM (oily-Combo) SPF 30, and this AHA in between the Skin Recovery Toner does much to help my skin hold on to the moisture of a minimally hydrating formula, whereas BHA or nothing at all in the AM left my skin visibly dull by afternoon. Overall my complexion is more even and calmed down. This has more immediate anti-aging benefits than BHA in my opinion. I am less likely to run to thicker, more emollient cream moisturizers to try to solve dryness, only to lament over the next day or two that my pores are clogged again, because the lighter formulas are working more efficiently since adding this. I did experience the tiniest bit of tingling after the first couple of uses, and had a couple of little breakout spots around my mouth but by the end of the first week that was gone, and now I am finding that rotating this with the CLEAR BHA does infinitely more to keep my skin clear. Breakouts have also been minimal along my jawline where they tend to pop up a couple times a month. My small-med but quickly gunky pores are much less of a problem, and it seems clear this product is somehow helping the BHA do a better job by not over-drying the surface of my skin so that it can penetrate to the pore level better. I didn't see the point of using both BHA/AHA in rotation, but if you are finding BHA is drying your skin out to the point where it's really only affecting the surface and unable to clear pores I recommend giving this a shot--especially if you have that surface dryness with obvious pores underneath. This turns over the surface that needs to be exfoliated in a gentler way, and gives BHA a clear path to the buried oil.I will be keeping this one on hand for the long haul. Please do not discontinue, as it is the only AHA I can use!!

The ONE Product I Won't Be Without
The last bottle I ordered had a broken pump (boo!), but I just take the pump off and shake as much as I can each time. I will not/cannot be without this product. It has made more of a positive difference in my skin than anything else I've ever used. I love trying different lotions, cleansers, etc., but this is my one and only AHA.

Love this product, however the pump disappoints.

About Me Minimalist
I love this treatment, however the pump dispenser is miserable at getting the product out of the bottle. I have to plunge a Qtip into the product in order to get any, which is disappointing given the price!

I just wanted a non SPF moisturizer and I found it! I use this daily and it makes my skin so soft and very moisturized. It's not sticky at all, I hate sticky moisturizers. This leaves my skin smooth and feeling great. Paulas Choice products always say what they deliver in performance. Love this product

I recently started a PC skin care regimen with some anti-aging products from the Resist line. I was excited about finally trying acids in a legitimate way since there is so much buzz about how amazing they are for your skin. Unfortunately, after using this product for about 1.5 weeks, I developed a horrible, red, painful, itchy rash all over my face. It is still happening right now and I'm using prescription creams to help the situation. I am so annoyed and so irritated. I never have skin issues, I have never had acne, and now my face is covered in nasty, red bumps. I may have misused the product or something, but I'm definitely never using this again. And I'm stuck with an entire bottle. :(

I have used PC products for years and have never bothered to write a review. I always read what others have to say about a product, good or bad while deciding on what to buy. I chose to take the time to write a review for this product because it is just outstanding and amazing. I have red hair, blue eyes, sun damaged skin and probably the most sensitive skin ever. I was apprehensive to use this because I was afraid it would sting or burn. I had no reactions to this product, that alone is a miracle in itself, but it has done an amazing job on creating a more even skin tone and my face looks so much brighter. I've already bought 2 extra bottles just to be safe so I never run out. Do yourself a favor and buy it.

Please keep making this forever. My skin loves it. If I get a break out it helps the redness and I don't need a moisturizer. I use it day and night.

I have to do a review because reading them had helped me so much. I hope to help others. My skin was never that bad, hormonal acne- sometimes pretty nasty but mostly small pimples here and there, I was used to it. I suddenly experienced severe acne which started as hundreds of clogged pores and with treatment, became horrible cystic acne, pustules, papules- really awful things I had never experienced before. Long story short no dr really knows exactly what caused this sudden onset but here's what I do know. I fist used Neutrogena bha which at first was ok but lead to cystic acne worse. Then I went on rx retinal and that gave me, what I'm told was a reaction, basically the worst cystic acne combined with blisters all over my face. Here's the good news. I knew i had to get back to my normal, this wasn't normal for me. I addressed that - hormones, etc and antibiotic for a month. Once everything calmed and cleared (3-5 months) I had horrible red and brown spots everywhere! Not scars per se but would not go away. You know the lovely reminder of all that acne you had. I have been using the 5% aha for 2 months. Great results after 1 month, pretty much amazing after 2. My skin is better than ever and almost no left over reminder of that horrible time. I have almost perfect skin now. I use the 5% nightly, I take a break if I feel extra dry. Use 10% occasionally. I like this formula. I tried the original 8% aha and didn't like it for my skin. I still want to try s good quality Bha again but I'm nervous and not there yet.

I used this product for the first time (in a couple of years) while staying over night at a conference. I woke up at 4 am in the hotel with a burning face and got up to frantically wash it off with ice cold water. I thought I might have to go to the hospital due to a chemical burn. When I got up in the morning, I looked like I had a major sunburn. I covered it up with make up as best as I could, but I still was quite red, and so uncomfortable. The next day my skin was all bumpy and gross, but felt less hot, thank goodness. It was painful, scary, and difficult to explain to my colleagues, however, I was mostly relieved that I washed it off when I did, so it didn't end up as severe a reaction as I experienced once when I used PC Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol, which temporarily deformed my face due to swelling. I think with both products, they must have increased the potency, since I had used both before without issue. Over all, I still love the other PC products I use and it's hard to find any alternatives that meet my requirements. I will be phoning customer service to request at least a refund, since I obviously won't be able to use the rest of the bottle.

Feels good on my skin, slight packaging problem
from Western Massachusetts
It feels great on applying, but too soon to know if it helps improve my skin. I hate applying moisturizer over it--it seems to take away its effect. My one packaging concern: The bottle had been relabeled and the new label peeled away when I took the cap off for the first time. I had to tape the label back on, so it doesn't look great on my shelf.
