    Be Wary
    • I bought this off my other account and after my first use i realize my skin started to dry out and around my eyes and neck developed a rash to the point it hurts to put on moisturizer, my skin started to get blotchy red.

    Allergic reaction
    • I liked it the first few times I used it. Unfortunately I have developed an allergic reaction to something in the product. 4 times over the past two months I've woken up with extremely itchy/red skin and puffy swollen eyes (even went to the optometrist to rule out an eye infection). It's such a relief to read that others are having the exact same symptoms. The symptoms/recovery time are so intense that I'd skip this one completely. Don't risk it - my face is like a war zone.

    So brightening!
    • I love this stuff! I use it only once a week because it is pretty strong and I try to keep my skincare pretty minimal. I have dry acne prone skin, and while my skin is a little more dry the next day than usual, my skin also looks brighter and the acne is diminished significantly. I mainly use this when I have nothing to do the next day so I don't have to wear makeup, because when I wear makeup over the accentuated dryness, it looks a little cakey and weird. This is great stuff, try it out!

Allergic Reaction - Test before applying all over!
    • I consider myself as having really tough skin but this one beat me up good. Woke up with red swollen itchy skin. Even more itchy and swollen the next day, and now swollen eyes! Took a day to realize it was the treatment because I really don't get adverse reaction to skin care, they either work or don't work, never this! Then I remembered using this treatment for the first time the night before. I then decided to reread other reviews and yep, same symptoms. Please try out on small area first!

    Did not work
    • This product worked in the beginning. After using it for a month, my face turned red and itchy. It took me almost a month for a it recover. And then I tested it again recently, the minute I put it I can see red patches and started to itch really bad. It was a waste of my money.

    Great product, terrible smell
    • I've been using this for several years as I have oily skin and prone to clogged pores - especially on my scalp. This product goes on so easily and absorbs instantly. A little does go a long way so be careful not to over-do it. Since the reformulation, the smell of the product is terrible. Appreciate no unnecessary fragrance, but just note the smell is off putting. Customer service told me they were aware of the smell and hope to address when reformulated in the fall.

    Bad reaction
    • At first I thought my reaction to this product was because of using it with other products. But it's this product alone. It makes my skin red, like I have a burn, and itchy. I can tolerate other AHA and BHA products from Paula's Choice, but this is really different. Use with extreme caution. Even with makeup, I can't really hide what this did to my skin, red and itchy, for several days.

a little goes a long way
    • I've been using this for 3 months, maybe 1x a week at night, maybe less--not sure. Was pleased with the results (though the smell is admittedly rank when you first apply it). Hadn't used it for a few weeks (while on vacation) and when I next used it I woke up in the morning to swollen eyes and a red/itchy face/neck that took a couple of days to calm down. I don't know if the bottle has gone "off" or if I unthinkingly used 2 pumps instead of 1 and rubbed over my eyes. Will try carefully 1x more.

    So far so good!
    • I used RESIST Weekly Treatment 4% BHA last night on face, neck & chest - one scant pump - avoiding eye area. Used my regular serum and moisturizer afterward. I could feel mild tingling when I went to sleep but woke up to silky smooth skin, no irritation or redness from the product. My skin is generally good, combo with fine lines, occasional blackheads or congested pores. I'm hopeful that if used weekly, RESIST will eliminate the few blackheads/bumps I have & prevent others. So far I'm pleased.

    Allergic Reaction
    • After using this, the next morning I awoke to a red itchy bumpy face and my eyelids were swollen. Glad others are able to use this product to their benefit, but it will not become part of my routine. I'll keep using my Resist for oily skin BHA which is working very nicely. The fishy smell does dissipate and wouldn't have otherwise been an issue.

Had a very bad reaction to this product
    • Sadly, I had a VERY bad reaction to this product: on both (non-contiguous) nights I used it, I woke up with itchy, flaky, red, swollen skin. It's just now starting to clear up after three days of putting nothing on my skin at night except a very mild cleanser and very mild moisturizer. I've been happily using Paula's Choice products for many years, never had any problems, and I use the 2% BHA liquid with no problem, but this stuff was the first thing of Paula's that was like poison for my skin.

    Just Excellent
    • This product is a welcome addition to my growing arsenal of treatments. I have persistently oily and breakout prone skin, am 44 with some other issues as well. This product is strong and I would recommend working your way up to it. I have been using BHAs for 15 years so I tolerated it quite well. Nothing like it for handling new breakouts. They virtually disappear overnight.

Part of my face loves it...
    • I love the way this product makes my skin look and feel. Unfortunately, I've learned I have to be careful applying, because if I accidentally get any on my eyelids I develop atopic dermatitis on that spot. It took me awhile to figure out (& my doctor agreed) that this product was the likely culprit, because the sensitivity developed over time (about 1 yr.) Recently, I've noticed a dry patch on my forehead. I hope this doesn't mean I'll eventually not be able to use this product at all!

    new texture is wonderful
    • As someone who was used to the old texture (slightly sticky and shiny), I'm very pleased with the reformulation. It absorbs quickly and feels like regular clean skin - like you have nothing on. It does seem to work more slowly than the old formula - I didn't see overnight results like I did with the old one, but after two weeks, the results are up to standard. This is a great product.

    Great find for me.
    • I'm in my 40's and have oily skin with enlarged pores. I'd been using 2% salicylic acid but did not see a huge improvement. When I found Paula's products and saw this 4%, I was anxious to go to the next level, but was also worried that it would be harsh. Decided to take the risk, and am not disappointed. I'm using it every night after toning, and apply the hydrator afterwards. Would give it 5 stars if it's smell wasn't so awful (goes away with the hydrator, though).

    Using for Body Acne/KP
    • This stuff works well in controlling breakouts on my back and chest. I've been able to control my facial acne with the 2% solutions but my back, especially my shoulders, were really stubborn and needed something stronger. This has cleared it up and my skin is slowly healing. I've also been alternating every other day between this and the KP cloths to control the KP on my legs. Progress is slow but it seems to work better than the cloths alone. Hoping I'll see more improvement over time.

    Love. This. Product.
    • I have fair, Irish skin. Horrible acne since I was a teenager. I'm 30yrs old, female. This product doesn't irritate my skin but it kicks acne to the curb. I've reduced my prescription topicals b/c they irritate my skin more and don't help as much as this does. Yes, it smells like fish, but it fades within a minute. I use it day and night, spot treat with the 9% preparation, and Resist serum (CLUTCH so you don't dry out.) Wash w/Resist wash, moisturize w/cerave (cheaper) = good to go!

Listen to your skin and do not overdo this
    • On the first month, I was struggling with acne and blackheads so I stupidly used this every other day and kept going even when my skin was so irritated. My face was a mess. After I stopped using this for a week, calmed down, and started using again once a week, this works BEAUTIFULLY. My skin texture is more even and smooth the next day. I do get some shedding but absolutely no irritation. It has been great so far. Please do not overdo this or it will be VERY miserable.

    PINK BLOTCHES
    • I never had a problem with the old formulation but i finally finsihed it and started the new one. I broke out in pink blotches on my forehead, face and neck. it took several weeks to go away. I wasn't sure if it was the product so I watied and tried it again last night, only using a very little amount. Well, the same thing happened but not as bad as I didn't use that much. I will not use it anymore. The older formulation was better.

    Saving my skin
    • I've loved Paula's Choice BHAs for a while now, but I'm very grateful for this one right now. I recently went through a medical experience that, along with being emotionally difficult, made me break out as badly as I did when I was a teenager. I've been using this 4% BHA regularly along with the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide; they are doing an amazing job at clearing up my hormonal acne. It sounds hokey, but healing my skin is helping me start to feel normal and healthy again, so thank you, PC team.

What makes this product unique?
Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam is an innovative treatment that delivers smoother, younger-looking skin overnight. Specialized technology encapsulates anti-aging superstar salicylic acid for time-released delivery—so you get dramatic results without flaking or signs of irritation.

The unique liquid-to-foam texture feels water-light yet is packed with soothing ingredients that reduce redness, calm inflammation, unclog pores, and reduce symptoms of rosacea. Plant-based antioxidants work with the exfoliating, pore-penetrating action of salicylic acid to stimulate collagen production for firmer, smoother, more radiant skin.

This weekly skin saver not only reduces multiple signs of aging, but also helps fade red marks from breakouts; plus, it's a potent option for banishing stubborn "chicken skin" (keratosis pilaris) on arms or legs. This product has a pH range of 3.2-3.8.

Who is this product for?
Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foam is for anyone concerned with signs of aging, enlarged pores, and breakouts. Also excellent for those with rosacea or for treating "chicken skin" (keratosis pilaris). The formula is suitable for all skin types, but best for combination to oily or breakout-prone skin.

NOTE: Those allergic to aspirin (acetylsalicylate) should not use products containing salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid).

Detailed instructions on how/when to apply your Paula's Choice products can be found in our How to Put Together Your Own Skincare Routine article.

Can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment with my regular BHA exfoliant? What about combining it with Resist BHA 9?

Yes, but this isn’t necessary to get great results, and it’s best to see how your skin responds to this treatment before using it with another exfoliant. Otherwise, depending on how much sun damage you have or if you have stubborn breakouts and clogged pores, the combination can enhance the results you’re already getting.

If you’d like to use these two BHAs at the same time, pay attention to how your skin responds and adjust frequency of usage accordingly. When using with one of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants, apply after Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment. If using with Resist BHA 9, apply that spot treatment before or after applying Resist Weekly Retexturizing Treatment.

How frequently can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment? Is using it every day too much?

Most people concerned with signs of aging plus clogged pores/breakouts and oily skin will find that using this treatment 1-3 times per week is perfect. However, you may apply it more often if desired, based on how your skin responds. For some skin types and skin problems it can be helpful to use this treatment up to 5 times per week. For example, those with very oily skin, stubborn clogged pores, or a rough, bumpy skin texture may find more frequent use is preferred. Applying every night is an option, too, but most will find this is overdoing it, especially if you are also using other exfoliants.

If you are struggling with very stubborn acne or other types of breakouts, you may find nightly usage works beautifully for a brief period of time. Once the breakouts are under control, you can reduce frequency of application or begin using one of our other, lower-strength BHA exfoliants daily to maintain the results.

There are so many different BHA exfoliants! How do I choose the best one for me?

Choose the best BHA for you based on your skin type, concerns, and texture preferences. Liquids and gels are great for oily or combination skin; lotions are ideal for normal to dry skin or combination skin with drier areas.

Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment is ideal for normal to oily or combination skin struggling with wrinkles, enlarged pores, breakouts, and rough, uneven skin. Pair this with any of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants to see a significant improvement in all of those concerns, or it may be used alone as your sole BHA exfoliant.

Can I use Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment as my only exfoliant?

Yes, though if you opt to use this as your daily exfoliant, monitor how your skin responds. If you see signs of irritation or flaking, reduce frequency of usage (perhaps to every other night or every couple of nights) or alternate this with one of our Skin Perfecting BHA exfoliants.

What’s the difference between Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment and Resist BHA 9?

Both exfoliants have time-released delivery systems to ensure great results without irritation and both contain salicylic acid, though in different amounts (4% for the Weekly Treatment and 9% for BHA 9). Beyond the percentage of salicylic acid, the other differences are texture, with the Weekly Retexturizing Treatment being liquid-to-foam and BHA 9 being a serum-like fluid.

Finally, Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment is designed for using all over the face, neck, and chest while Resist BHA 9 is meant to be a spot treatment for stubborn imperfections, not an all-over exfoliant. Both work to address multiple concerns, including signs of aging, and both may be used as needed to solve such issues as clogged pores, blackheads, white bumps, and for smoothing the appearance of wrinkles.

Can Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment be used on the body, such as for dry, cracked heels?

Yes! This treatment may be used on areas of thickened, built-up skin on knees, feet, elbows, etc. At night, apply a thin layer and follow with an emollient moisturizer. The next morning you’ll wake up to dramatically softer, smoother skin!

I have KP (keratosis pilaris) and products with 2% salicylic acid haven’t helped. Will this work?

Quite possibly, yes! It’s worth a try because this is a stronger BHA exfoliant formulated in a unique delivery system to ensure dramatic results without irritation. Every Paula's Choice product is sold with a 100% money-back guarantee, so you have nothing to lose!

Can Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment be used with skin-lightening products?

Yes. Whether the skin-lightening product contains hydroquinone or other lightening ingredients, it will help to enhance the effectiveness of your skin-lightening product. At night, apply the Weekly Retexturizing Treatment first, and then follow with your skin lightener, serum (if used), and your moisturizer.

Will Resist Weekly Retexturizing Foaming Treatment cause my skin to dry out?

Although it's possible that some who use this product too frequently or combined with other exfoliants may notice some flaking or sensation of dryness, when used as directed Resist Weekly Retexturizing Treatment won’t leave skin feeling dry or looking flaky. It contains several ingredients that help skin retain moisture—you’ll be surprised at how unbelievably smooth this treatment makes your skin after just one night’s use! If you remain concerned about dryness, follow application with a moisturizer suitable for your skin type.
