Made me break out
from Chicago, IL
About Me Beauty Conscious
Comments about 8% AHA Gel - 3.3 oz:
I love a lot of PC products but sadly this product made me break out after a week of use along my jaw and neck so I stopped using it. I had already done the whole "purging" with other products but would eventually regret it so I stopped use in a short period.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

About Me Minimalist
I should really be on retinols right now; but due to breastfeeding I am just using an AHA as my "anti-aging" routine. This 8% AHA is great! I have been using it for about 2-1/2 months, and my skin is clearer, smoother, more even toned, overall healthier than it was before I started. I am using all PC products at this point, and they are all working well for me. My skin is more even, and healthier. In the past my skin has been super temperamental--- dry/flaky/red patches around my chin and mouth, breakouts on my cheeks and forehead, crazy big pores on my nose, uneven skintone, laugh lines, beginning to get lip lines, lines around my eyes, and forehead crease. I use the AHA every night after using PC creamy cleanser, and follow the AHA up with PC intense thick moisturizer when needed. In the morning it is the PC creamy cleanser and Calm Redness Relief SPF 30 (BEST SPF Moisture that I have ever used).
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Really wanted it to work
from San Diego, CA
I had really high hopes for this as I heard it was great to help prevent wrinkles and just good anti-aging. However, it caused me to have the worst breakout i have ever had, I occasionally get a pimple here and there, but i had so many new pimples 3 days after using this, and they still have not healed. In the past I would never really get andy painful whiteheads, but this gave me terrible whiteheads. Overall I wouldn't recommend this due to the terrible results on my skin.

I've used (and enjoyed) the 5% AHA for years, but decided to up my game with the 8%. I have normal - sensitive skin that is not particularly acne prone. I use the AHAs as a general exfoliant for brighter skin, not really to fight acne. I used this entire bottle (one application in the AM daily, occasional application in the evenings - not every night) and did not find that it seemed to do much of anything. I think it was lightly exfoliating my skin, but I didn't notice anything beyond what the 5% does (no WOW moments) and it does not come with the added benefit of the great texture of the 5%. I also used it on my (dry, patchy) elbows and KP and didn't see any improvement there either. In general, this could be helpful for those of you with oily skin (it soaks in and is non greasy) that doesn't pair well with the 5%, but beyond that I don't recommend.

Smoothed skin surface overnight
from Los Angles, CA
I am in the process of sampling all the PC exfoliators to find the right ones for me, and recently used two high-concentration AHA's: Resist Weekly (10% AHA) and Skin Perfecting (8% AHA).Both Resist Weekly and Skin Perfecting had similar properties when applied: viscous liquid texture spread easily without being too thin or drippy, inoffensive scent, tingled when applied, became slightly sticky when "dry". Both tangibly reduced the roughness of my skin overnight. If I were to choose based on specifications, I would give a slight edge to Resist Weekly due to its higher level of anti-aging ingredients and slightly more AHA concentration. I think Skin Perfecting is a high enough AHA concentration that I would also consider it a weekly or bi-weekly treatment, and it might be better for those who need just a tad less AHA. Based on price, Skin Perfecting is the more budget friendly of the two. Frankly, based on my short-lived experience, I think it is difficult to go wrong with either.

Not for everyone
By Sun Damaged Dame

I began using this product in the hopes that it would eliminate my closed comedones, decrease PIH, minimize the size of the Sebaceous Filaments on my nose, and generally improve my skin's texture. I have dry, somewhat sensitive skin that is typically free of acne (with a few hormonal exceptions). This product was simply not for me. I found that my skin texture became rougher with this product and I actually had more breakouts. My face became red and irritated, even when I cut down use to only two days a week. After cutting this product out of my routine my skin cleared and improved within 5 days. I will not be using this product again. If you have sensitive skin this may not be for you. I hope to find a different AHA (perhaps at a lower concentration) that will help with my skin concerns.

Wonderful alternative to BHA
I recently discovered that I'm allergic to aspirin and -- thanks to PC website -- should therefore stop using salicylic acid. I've used PC's BHA for past few years because of my skin type (oily, some breakouts), but had to experiment with strength and frequency because I often had flaky skin after use. I just started using this product as an alternative, and I love it! No flakes and my skin is so smooth. It's exfoliating beautifully and I've been able to use it twice per day. A wonderful alternative to those allergic to aspirin or if you have oily skin with large pores and occasional breakouts but get flaky from BHA.
Great Product, But...
I have acne-prone combination skin with hormonal cystic acne showing it's ugly face sometimes around the jawline going down to the chin & neck area. My cheeks have also become dryer as I age.I discovered PC Products when I was thinking of purchasing Proactive+ but as I did some research, her products continued to come up with great reviews. I know that Paula and her team say that you do not need both a BHA (best for acne-prone working underneath the skin) & an AHA (surface layer) but I seem to differ. Bryan Barron, who is an integral part of the Paula Research Team, uses both and has nothing bad to say about his experience so I went ahead and first tried a sample and fell in love with it. I then purchased this full-size AHA Gel.I do NOT use this everyday. I use my 2% BHA 2x a day and then I will skip my night application of the 2% BHA with this 8% AHA about 2 times a week and it works great. I feel no need to use it more than that but as I age, I am sure my applications will increase. I have also noticed more smoother skin using this because of it exfoliating the surface cells. I have also noticed it fading the leftover red marks from my cystic acne which has become a concern of mine. The word "but" in my title of this review has to do with me being money conscious. Beautypedia gives the brand Alpha Hydrox 5 stars. I went and purchased the Alpha Hydrox 10% Oil-Free Gel and it works for me. I also just found out that ULTA is discontinuing to carry this line so I went and bought what was left. After all supplies are diminished, the only way to purchase is online. With me being money conscious & deciding which OTC brands work for me, this will then allow me to purchase MORE PC PRODUCTS!
