Detailed instructions on how/when to apply your Paula's Choice products can be found in our How to Put Together Your Own Skin-Care Routine article.
Which Paula's Choice serum should I use?
All skin types can use any of our serum and each provides multiple anti-aging benefits, but there are some formulary distinctions that make certain Paula's Choice serums preferred for specific skin types. Here's how they break down:
- Resist Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum and Resist Intensive Wrinkle Repair Retinol Serum can be used by all skin types, including sensitive skin. The Resist Intensive Wrinkle Repair Serum contains the highest amount of retinol.
- Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum is best for normal to very dry skin because it contains plant oils.
- Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum is best for normal to oily or combination or breakout-prone skin because it has the lightest texture and weightless finish.
- Resist Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum is one of two Paula’s Choice serums that does not contain retinol. It's the natural choice for anyone whose skin cannot tolerate retinol.
- Resist Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum has the lightest texture of all the Resist serums and is our only water-based (rather than silicone-based) serum. It does not contain retinol, so is recommended for those whose skin cannot tolerate this ingredient (or it may be used with one of our retinol serums).
Can the Resist C15 Super Booster and Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum be used around the eyes?
Yes. All Paula’s Choice serums (and moisturizers) can and should be applied around the eyes, too. The same statement also applies to the neck and chest, two areas prone to showing signs of sun damage and aging.
I use a prescription product with tretinoin (i.e. Retina-A, Renova, Tazorac). Since Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum contains retinol, is it OK to combine them?
We are not aware of any contraindications surrounding the use of tretinoin and retinol and believe this combination is beneficial to skin. Because this question concerns a prescription drug, we recommend consulting your physician and following his or her advice.
Is the Resist C15 Super Booster and Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum duo suitable for breakout-prone skin?
Yes! The vitamin C in the Resist C15 Super Booster plus antioxidants and repairing ingredients in both products work to reduce the inflammation and redness from acne, as well as encourage healing of red marks from past breakouts.
Is the Resist C15 Super Booster and Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum duo suitable for those with rosacea?
The Resist C15 Super Booster may be suitable for rosacea. The concern is the amount of vitamin C, which can be too potent for some cases of rosacea. We suggest sampling this product to see how your skin responds. Generally speaking, though, vitamin C’s anti-inflammatory action on skin can be helpful for rosacea.
The antioxidants and soothing agents in Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum will help calm redness and soothe skin as they deliver anti-aging benefits. Research has shown that retinol can reduce inflammation that leads to symptoms of rosacea.
At what point after my laser and/or peel procedure can I begin using my serum again?
First, we urge you to follow the post-procedure instructions your doctor or nurse provided. If nothing was mentioned about when to resume use of a serum, please contact the doctor's office where you had the procedure done. Otherwise, our general advice is to begin using your serum again as soon as possible. All of our serums contain skin-repairing, anti-inflammatory, and replenishing ingredients that calm reddened skin and help enhance the healing process. Make sure you're also protecting your "new" skin every day with a product rated SPF 15 or greater.
My skin tends to be sensitive to vitamin C but I still want to use the C15 Super Booster. Will applying this product a few times per week still be beneficial?
Yes, of course. Although once- or twice-daily application is recommended, you will absolutely still see benefits from Resist C15 Super Booster if it's applied less often. As with any skin-care product, you need to pay attention to how your skin responds and adjust usage (or products) accordingly.
I received my C15 and the internal air restrictor isn’t in the bottle—it’s on the dropper. How do I insert it?
The internal air restrictor, as you noticed, is now packaged separately to reduce the likelihood of the bottle leaking during transit. There are two ways to insert it into your C15, and both are easy!
Remove the seal from your C15, insert the dropper (do not remove the air restrictor from the glass stem) and screw the dropper cap closed. The cap will appear to tilt unevenly, but keep screwing it down and the internal air restrictor will snap into place. All done!
Remove the seal from your C15, and then pull the air restrictor off of the glass stem of the dropper. Push the pointed end of the air restrictor into the open C15 bottle, applying pressure until it snaps into place.
We also have a handy “How-to” video on our YouTube channel
that provides visuals on both of the above options. Once the air restrictor is secure, it will not come loose or fall out—and now your C15 is ready for use!
Can you tell me more about the Resist C15 packaging, i.e. "packaged to minimize light and air exposure"?
A great deal of thought went into the packaging for this product. Because Resist C15 is a water-light liquid, a bottle and dropper-tip applicator were the only way to go for measuring the perfect amount per use while ensuring the product wasn't messy to dispense. To protect the potency of the formula, we selected tinted glass to prevent UV exposure and an internal restrictor to drastically reduce airflow into the bottle when the dropper is removed. In rigorous testing, these packaging safeguards were more than adequate to preserve the effectiveness of the Resist C15 Super Booster! For maximum potency, we advise using C15 Super Booster within three months of opening.
