Not for dry hair

Comments about Hair & Body Shampoo - 14.5 oz:
I am 44yo and I have long, very thick wavy/curly dry hair. I have heard that my non-sulfate cleansing conditioner (WEN) may not be enough to cleanse the scalp well, so I was looking for a shampoo with sodium laureth sulfate to use every other time I wash my hair. Of course I turned to Paula's Choice since I trust PC and use it exclusively for skin care. Sadly my hair wound up in tangled knots as soon as I gently massaged this shampoo into my scalp. Seriously, washing my hair normally does not lead to knots. Yes, I do have long, thick, dry hair which is color treated (single process) once every 8 weeks, but why does this shampoo cause knots in my hair?? When I use wide tooth comb and or brush to smooth out the awful nest of knots, I wind up loosing to much hair!! I assume this product is not meant for dry hair. This product is okay to use as a body wash, however! The only reason I am giving this 2 stars versus one is because it's nice as a body wash, and the conditioner works well to shave my legs.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

5 Star Product, 1 Star Packaging
from Boston, MA
I have very fine, thin hair and (I thought) an oily scalp. I have used salon shampoos for years, but was frustrated with both the cost and that my hair never felt fully clean. It would often be so oily within 24 hours that I would have to lather up twice to feel like the shampoo had done it's job adequately. I decided to give this a shot and am so glad that I did. My hair feels clean and soft, and my scalp no longer feels as oily. Honestly, I think I could even skip a day - something that was never previously possible. BUT the packaging is awful! The cap is flimsy, ready to break off with one false move. And the opening is huge, making it almost impossible to not dispense too much and waste product, especially when the bottle is new/full. I understand I could (and likely will) use my own workarounds, but for the price point, improvements are in order.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Not suited for senstive scalps.
By Amy G.
I'm a big fan of Paula's Choice products, but the hair-care line isn't my favorite: despite being described as 'gentle enough for sensitive scalp', I noticed the opposite effect. My scalp is very reactive/sensitive, therefore I find it strange that this product is recommended as such. After using it a couple of weeks I now suffer from an unusual itchy scalp and neck. Also it seems very drying for my hair. I have long hair, and this shampoo unfortunately isn't doing much for it. The conditioner isn't conditioning enough either, makes my hair feel dryer too than any other conditioner.

About Me Beauty Expert
I'd battled for years trying to get rid of mysterious dandruff that didn't respond to dandruff shampoo. I had oily hair, I told myself, it can't be that I'm dry! And I used conditioner and it didn't fix the itchiness.I tried this stuff mostly for the body care part of it. I'd been having issues with dry spots/acne and keeping everything in balance, and I'd had such great luck with PC's other products that I thought I'd give it a shot. And then the itchiness stopped. I didn't notice it at first, but when I briefly used a different shampoo and it came back full-force, I realized that what I'd been battling for years was just plain old scalp sensitivity. And this product is so good and keeps me so clean that not only is it great for my sensitive scalp, it's the reason I know I *have* a sensitive scalp. Also great for my body, though the results weren't as striking to me there because I hadn't been having as big of issues. Like a lot of PC's products, I wish it came in a different type of container-- it's easy to spill too much of this into your hand. But that isn't a big enough deterrent for me to even knock it down a star.

One of the best hair products I have ever used!
I use the product for hair care. It is fragrance free which is absolutely essential for me. It is gentle , non irritating and cleans effectively! The conditioner is also very gentle and provides the right amount of tangle and style control. I have only praise for the Hair and Body shampoo.

The most wonderful shampoo I've used ever. There's no weird smell or exaggerated claims, just simple product. My hair is clean for days, which is exactly what a shampoo should achieve. I don't think I will ever use anything else. I have no wish to try something else

Lovely shampoo / body wash; solution for bottle issues
Have loved the new formulation of the PC shampoo since it came out. I have extremely oily hair and this cleans it nicely in one lathering-up. After reading some reviews complaining about the bottle, I wanted to write that I hope customers won't stop purchasing the shampoo because of the bottle .. I too love large bottles with a pump; they're the easiest things to use in the shower. But, at least for now, this great shampoo is not available in that type bottle. So, all customers need to do is go to a Sally's Beauty Supply, get one of their mid-sized empty bottles with a pump (inexpensive and reusable), pour your PC shampoo in and enjoy convenience + a great, ff shampoo! (I would never let a bottle's design keep me from using a shampoo I love :) Hope this helps someone.

About Me Product Junkie
Just got this shampoo and used it for the first time and i must say it's very drying to the scalp. Not a mild shampoo as i thought it was going to be. It's a very basic shampoo without any calming ingredients. Perhaps a conditioner is a must when using this shampoo
So glad I found this shampoo!

About Me Minimalist
I have struggled with using regular shampoos and even conditioners in my hair because I always get fall out from using them or they cause my hair to become extra oily. I'm not sure as to why, but figured it must be some kind of irritation so opted to get a more gentle option.I tried natural oils but must be allergic to them all because my scalp just became itchy and my hair fell out more than ever before. Finally I found that Paula's Choice has a shampoo and decided I must try it and am so happy I did! My hair no longer falls out AT ALL and by washing only couple to few times a week, I can go days with clean fresh looking hair. The only con is that in no way is this as a shampoo moisturizing in any way. If you cannot find a good follow up conditioner whether leave-in or not, you might find that this leaves your hair slightly dry or tight feeling. But I'm okay with that because I don't expect a shampoo to be conditioning, and I have a good leave-in conditioner so I am very happy with this product.

I'm torn. I have a lot of fine, straight hair that just gets limp and gets a lot of flyaways when I use this as a shampoo, and I live in Hawaii, so dry climate is not the problem! It's really one of the worst shampoos I've ever used, and adding the conditioner didn't help. It seems I'm not the only one with this problem, and from reading other reviews, it looks like this doesn't work as a shampoo for people with my hair type. But as a body wash, it's a godsend! I have slightly sensitive skin that gets irritated by the water here more so than in other places I've been, and this leaves my skin itch-free, silky smooth, and soft. I absolutely love it! The smell isn't something to write home about, but I just love the way it makes my skin feel so much that I continue to buy this solely as a body wash. I cannot say enough good things about this product in that capacity! I would absolutely recommend this -- as a body wash.
