    Love this product
    • I love this product, but I give it 3 stars because it claims to be mattifying, but definitely is not. We rely on Paula's Choice to provide us with accurate descriptions - something we don't always get with department store brands. Loyal customers are disappointed when our expectations are not met. If "mattifying" was taken out of the name of this product, users would be less dissatisfied. This is easy to spread and does not irritate. Best for my skin thus far and I've tried all of them!

Thanks for your review! We are going to be changing the name of this product to remove "mattifying" as it has proven to be misleading for many customers, and that's never our intent. A more accurate way to describe this product would be that it feels matte but doesn't look matte. It's a truly light formula but the active ingredients can leave a natural sheen on skin that we were hoping the silica (an absorbent) would temper.

    Oily and shiny :(
    • I trialed this for several days, but couldn't take the oiliness or shininess any more - my skin's vastly improved with the PC Resist line, but this one's a miss, although I do appreciate the sun protection. Am ordering the new Resist SPF 50 fluid with the hope that the mattifying description's accurate this time.

    Good but underwhelming
    • I like the feel of this moisturizer-- it's lightweight and soaks in easily. However, I have noticed a few more small bumpy acne breakouts here and there since using, so it could be causing breakouts. I've also switched to several Paula's Choice products along with this one, so I can't be sure which, if any, are the real cause of the breakouts not improving and maybe even worsening.

    Didn't work for me
    • Usual stellar ingredient list from PC. Light texture, feels weightless and isn't irritating. Unfortunately I did not find this product to be shine-free or mattifying at all. I tried it several times, even cautious not to layer a bunch of products underneath. Each time the initial finish was more satin-matte than matte, and each time my face became more and more radiant as the day went by. Disappointed that this product no where near lives up to it's name or intended benefits.

    oily
    • I've been using this Clear Ultra Light Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 30 for three months and it breaks me out! The formula dries fast but its oily as heck. It does have a tingling sensation when applied but it goes away as soon as it dries. I don't recommend this to anyone with sensitive acne prone skin.

    LOVE this poduct!!!
    • I received a sample size of this in my Ipsy bag last month. This is the BEST moisturizer I have EVER used. I have very oily, acne prone skin. I also live in the South where it is extremely humid. This stuff does it's job. Controlled the oil and also improved the look of my complexion. I have been searching for something like this for YEARS. YEARS people!! I'll be buying a full size when the sample size runs out.

    SO close!
    • This product does, in many ways, exactly what it says it will. It is the lightest sunscreen I've ever used, but it doesn't have a matte finish at all. Rather the finish is much less oily than the average sunscreen. Sadly, after using off and on for about a little over a week I am reacting with redness and mild discomfort upon use.

    Ultra light, not matte
    • I previously had used the Resist Super-Light Wrinkle Defense which I liked, but switched to the Hydralight Shine Free SPF after becoming to pale during the winter. Both are great but neither prevent me from becoming oily by the end of the day. (Resist a little better than Hydralight.) So when I saw this I snapped up it up. It has an ultra thin consistency and goes on well. Moisturizes well for oily skin. But its not matte, less so than Hydralight, and smells terribly of chemical SPF. Returned it

Not Mattifying..Not great for oily skin
    • This lotion was strange. When you first put it on, it doesn't feel mattifying at all. I think thats the reason for all the complaints... but after i applied my makeup , i found i did not get greasy or shiny throughout the entire day. It actually worked amazing for me... but 27.00 a bottle? Paulas Choice is slowly getting out of my price range.

    Not Shine Free
    • I am so disappointed in this product. Every thing mentioned "Shine Free Fluid, Keeps Oils in Check and Lasting Matte Finish" is not what I got. My face is left so shiny. I thought I was using a little to much product and thought if I used a little it wouldn't be as shiny, but I thought wrong. I really think the info written for this product really should to be revised. As I now see a lot of people got the same result. Silly of me not to read the reviews.

    note mattifying
    • Very disappointed. This is not mattifying at all. I end up with a very shiny face after using this. I'm bummed I spent my money on a whole tube of it. I guess I'll use it elsewhere on my body where I don't mind a bit of sheen. I much prefer the Resist Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 for my face and will stick with that instead because it leaves a nice matte finish unlike the Clear Ultra-light Daily Mattifying Fluid.

    • I've been using this sunscreen for 2 months now. And at the beginning it seems to work fine, but as I continue to use it everyday consistently, it was breaking me out more. I have sensitive acne prone skin. I have tried the skin balancing sunscreen and it didn't work for me either.

    Broke me out!
    • Pros: -It has protection against sun damage. -Lightweight. -I can apply it liberally without looking like a grease ball. -Non greasy. Cons: -Caused breakouts(on me). Conclusion: I have oily skin,(t-zone and cheeks) .I will maybe try another time to test it. I just have to wait until the pimples go away. Don't know if I will repurchase it.

    Can sting near eyes
    • I slather on sunscreen & made the mistake of putting this near my eyes, ouch. It got into one eye before setting & stung for several hrs. Usually I use Hydralight for eye area and Skin Balancing sunscreen for the rest of my face. I like this product's water light yet moisturizing texture but am going back to my previous regimen to avoid further potential eye sensitization. Perhaps if you're more careful about application, you'll have much better results. Me, not patient enough re: time.

Use it as an Eye Cream SPF
    • It is true that it makes your face shiny, but it is gentle on the eye area (including eyelids). You might feel at first a slight tingling. It doesn't feel heavy. So I might just order the sample versions from now on. I use the Hydralight SPF for my face, makes me white (leaves white lines on eyelids), but there is no better option for me.

Great product, if not a little misleading
    • I love this moisturizer/spf. I picked it up along with the RESIST Super Light and find myself using this one a lot more because of how quick and convenient the application process is. It's not matte, though; it's glowy, if anything. You will glow. But, still, I'd prefer it if it was more matte. There's a sunscreen that was marketed as 'uber-dry' that got discontinued recently and I'd like it if the research team looked into formulating something that goes on like that in the near future.

    NOT Mattifying
    • This product does not make my skin matte at all. If anything, it makes it appear MORE shiny. I do like that it's very light, easy to apply, has SPF, and doesn't break me out. I just wish the name wasn't so misleading. I'm still on the hunt for a good moisturizer with SPF that doesn't break me out AND mattifies.

    Didn't mattify
    • I like the fluid texture of this moisturizer, and after using it a month it hasn't caused breakouts. It didn't mattify my oily skin though which is why I wanted to try it. I was hoping this product would eliminate the need for the shine stopper product so I could have a multi tasking product that moisturizes & mattifies at the same time. I am not sure it is worth it to buy this again when my less expensive drugstore moisturizer works just as well with shine stopper.

Thanks for your review! We will likely be changing the name of this product as customer feedback had leaned in favor of this not being as mattifying as the name implies (oddly, our panel testing had different results, hence the current name). We always appreciate the feedback!

    A little TOO light
    • I use the Clear Extra Strength line (SO MUCH LOVE) and it actually dries out my very oily skin. I was hoping this moisturizer would feel light as well as soothe my skin from the daily BHA/BP bombardment but unfortunately it doesn't do the trick. I need to apply a heavy cream afterwards in order to keep my face from feeling tight (but at least the cystic acne is gone)! Also, it goes on light, but it is super shiny and it DOESN'T work as a foundation primer. Can you make this in a Gel version?

    Not Shine Free For Me
    • I really have zero complaints about this product, but for me it was not mattifying. As a light weight sunscreen it is great. I will continue to use it, I just won't use it on days when I need to wear make-up and not shine. It didn't break me out or sting. If I didn't have such an oily face it would probably work great. I won't say this product didn't work, I will just say it didn't work for me.

    Loveee!
    • This does not make your face matte...however this product is amazing. The skin balancing moisturizer was much harder to spread because it seemed to grip at my skin, this texture is so silky smooth and leaves your skin soft as if you aren't wearing anything! No tacky finish - just soft and moisturized. I like the slightly shiny finish because it looks like i'm wearing a highlighter, my cheekbones seem to pop with this!

    non greasy finish
    • Great product! Anything underneath needs to be in a very light layer though. A light dusting of mineral veil over top and it's perfect on my normal skin (oily nose.) This is the first chemical sunscreen that I have found that I can use on my face w/no stinging. Please make this in a water resistant formula. The only place I cannot use it is the lash line because heat makes it move into my eye and this is a first time for this issue for me. Overall, it's wonderful and I'm glad they made it.

    I am in LOVE
    • This sunscreen is very thin and lightweight - I can slather it on and it rubs in well. It leaves my face feeling moisturized not tight. I use the extra strength clear set to keep my adult acne in check (another LOVE). It does look a bit shiny at first, however, I put it on first thing (before I get dressed, make coffee, etc.). I love to put a full face of make up on, and this does require a bit of powder on my t-zone. Purchase sample size - lasts about 2 weeks to try and then buy!

    very nice
    • I ordered the sample size of this product, and so far it is my go-to moisturizer of the summer! I apply it with a cotton pad every morning. It wears weightlessly, and has helped fade red marks from old breakouts. A matte finish is not super important to me, as my skin is not excessively oily, just very temperamental. Happy to say that it gets along well with this "fluid."

Why isn’t there a nighttime moisturizer in the Clear line?

There may be one at some point, but for now our Skin Balancing Invisible Finish Moisture Gel works beautifully as a nighttime moisturizer when using Clear. For extra anti-aging ingredients without making breakouts worse, you can also use our Resist Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator.

Does Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 30+ absorb excess oil as well as the Skin Balancing SPF 30 product?

Yes, if not better, though it always depends on the other products you apply beforehand. For example, an emollient cleanser or moisturizer will prevent adequate oil absorption. You will find that Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid does a wonderful job keeping excess shine in check while not feeling the least bit slick or heavy on skin.

Does Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 30+ have acne-fighting properties?

Not directly. Its ultra-light texture is unlikely to make breakouts worse, and simply protecting skin from daily sun damage means it will act younger and heal faster and more efficiently than if it were routinely exposed to damaging UV light. One more bonus: The antioxidants this product contains not only help fight multiple signs of aging, they also work to speed healing of red marks from past breakouts!

Will Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid SPF 30+ cause me to breakout?

Although we cannot state with 100% certainty that any product, whether from Paula’s Choice or another brand, won’t cause breakouts, we’re confident stating that it’s extremely unlikely that this Clear daytime moisturizer will cause breakouts. Not only is the formula super-light, but it lacks the heavier thickening agents and potentially pore-clogging ingredients found in moisturizers with a creamy texture.

Is Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid drying? If my skin is dry and I have breakouts, can I use this?

Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid is best for normal, combination, or oily skin prone to breakouts. Those with dry skin and breakouts are likely to feel this product doesn’t provide the moisture their skin needs, so should consider our Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex SPF 30, which is compatible with other Clear products. If you have dry skin and would like to try this product, we recommend ordering the trial size first—or you can apply this daytime moisturizer over our Skin Recovery Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum.

Will Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid fade red marks from breakouts?

Because of the excellent sun protection it provides, this will help fade those lingering marks from past breakouts, especially when used as part of a comprehensive, gentle skin-care routine that includes a good exfoliant (such as what’s part of the Clear line) and serum loaded with anti-aging ingredients, such as Resist Ultra-Light Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum.

Is Clear Ultra-Light Daily Mattifying Fluid suitable if I have rosacea?

It’s hard to tell exactly what will cause someone with rosacea to have a reaction. Because this is 100% guaranteed you can always try it and see how your skin responds. If you have rosacea and combination to oily skin you can also try our Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 instead.

I have extra-sensitive skin that breaks out. Can I use this Clear daytime moisturizer?

The potential cause for concern is the active ingredients that create this product’s broad-spectrum sunscreen can be a problem for those with extra-sensitive skin, but it’s always hard to determine what amount of risk that presents for each person. Because this product is 100% guaranteed you can always try it to see how it works for your skin. Or, your skin may do better with the mineral active ingredients in our Hydralight Shine-Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30.
