Love Shine Stopper

About Me Minimalist
This is great for tapping lightly onto areas with too much shine. I use it as a final product only in the areas I need it. Also works well to keep eye products from creasing throughout the day if your eyelids get oily. Use before applying shadow. The tube lasts a very long time.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It truly works!
from St Augustine, FL
I bought the samples first and took them with me to a week vacation in Hawaii. I live in FL and Hawaii was just as hot and humid. I have issues with shine every day and this is the first product I've tried that actually addresses the problem and well!! I would find myself looking at a mirror during the day expecting to need to dab oil away, and nothing! Just matte, smooth. I'm very impressed! It's definitely getting added to my daily beauty regimen!
Finally! A product that can tame my oily skin

Wow! Shine Stopper is my secret weapon against oily skin. I have extremely oily skin, which I have attempted to control all my life. I have tried virtually every mattifier and oil control product on the market, all to no avail. Until now, everything I've tried has left my skin either dry as parchment or controlled my oil for a couple of hours at best. I happened to receive a sample of Shine Stopper and was blown away by its performance. Not only does it control the oil completely, but it also lasts all day. Truly remarkable!! Application couldn't be easier--just pat a small amount on the oil prone areas of your face (in my case, the entire face!). No rubbing necessary. It works immediately. No more shine. No more midday blotting papers. I can finally walk into a room and not feel self-conscious about my shiny skin. A truly effective product.

I received this as a sample. Applied it before going to work last night. And, after working a 12 hour shift I had absolutely NO shine!!! Think I might have to get me some of this!!!!
Works great for a half day
This product certainly delivers a nice matte finish for my perpetually shiny face. I keep it on hand as the last step in my routine when I want to look extra presentable. Would absolutely recommend.Only cons are that it can't make it through the whole day on my oily skin but it gets a solid 4-6 hours depending on humidity. I have to use more than the recommended pea-sized amount too, so this would run out quick if I used daily. I don't, because I have a low tolerance for being aware that product is sitting on my face, and this leaves a light-powdery-layer-feel I don't want every day. But anyone who wears make-up or is accustomed to products that sit rather than soak in will have no qualms.
Didn't work for me
from Delray Beach, FL
I've used this product for several times at this point because I was really hoping that it would work. I applied under and over my makeup and it didn't make any difference for me at all. My nose is extremely oily and my makeup disappeared 3 hours after I used this product. When I use my mattifying high end primer, I still get very oily but my makeup remains on the face. I also tried to use both my mattifying primer and this product together (I applied one under and the other over makeup) and it still didn't make any difference for me. I love most of PC products so this one was unfortunately a huge disappointment.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Gets you compliments!
from Huntersville, NC
I use this product to reduce shine - especially on hot days or for 12 hour night shifts. It works quite well and I have not experienced the pilling that some people have. I think it's important to tap it on and not rub it in.The other morning after a 12 hour night shift my manager said I looked very fresh - like I was coming in to work at that time - and couldn't believe I had worked all night. I have never had any one say this to me - I have struggled with oily, acne-prone skin since I was nine and usually look like a wilted flower at the end of my shift. This works better for me than Dr. Brandt and Pores No More.

Hands down my fave!
from Beaverton, Or
I have a drawer full of primers and a few that I do like. However this is my go to everyday primer for sure! After I apply all my skincare and sunscreen I find that my skin feels a bit too dewy for my liking and sometimes other primers I have used help with reducing that but then when my foundation goes on it looks horrible! This product however mattifies my skin instantly which I love and creates the perfect canvas for my foundation ( I use many different ones) with no application issues. I do prefer a matte finish for my skin and that is what this does.

Among the best I've tried
from Los Angles, CA
I was a dedicated OC8 user, and I must say, I was skeptical when I first tried Paula's Choice Shine Stopper. While I applaud PC for offering sample sachets, I have found that the sample packaging doesn't do justice for some products, and Shine Stopper was one of them. I initially found I either had too much or too little from the sample packet, it was way too slow drying and it mattified for only a couple hours. Also, the application instructions say to dab it on, which I found to not work for me. It seems like no surprise that there are many failed tryouts of this product. I really wanted an alternative to OC8 which is sometimes hard to find with varying (expensive) prices, so I ordered a tube of Shine Stopper despite my rocky start with it.Once I had a tube and altered my application method, things really fell into place with this product. The tube has a narrow nozzle-like tip that helps with controlled dispensing, so I can get just the amount I need. I replaced the recommended dabbing application with more of a smoothing approach, similar to what OC8 instructs for their product. The trick to having long lasting mattifying with this product is to NOT rub it in and to work in sections. Spread a thin layer with sweeping or circular motions over the oily areas only--for me, that is mainly nose, inner cheeks and forehead. It will be rather wet and have a white cast at first, but it dries relatively quickly and with no color if the layer is not too thick. Usually by the time I'm done brushing and flossing my teeth, it will be set. If I messed up and put a little too much in one area, I can correct it with dampened fingers, which will reconstitute the product just enough to work it.Performance is excellent. I get more than 8 hours of mattification on my forehead. My nose is less lucky, but that is because I have allergies and nose blowing wears the product off. It can be reapplied during the day, and is rather good at restoring a matte finish to freshly blotted skin. For mid-day application, I don't get as much mattifying longevity as when it is applied to clean skin. Having said that, even a mid-day reapplication is rather good at absorbing oil, and beats out powder touch ups for my skin.I haven't had much experience layering this product under or over makeup. When using cream under eye concealer, I must be careful not to abrade any of the areas that have the mattifier on (such as my inner cheeks near the under eyes), or it will look patchy. Using pressed powder foundations over the dried product has been successful, especially if applied with a dry round cosmetic sponge in a rolling/pressing motion. I do not think this product would work as well under liquid foundation or using damp beauty sponges because the water would dissolve the product. Using Shine Stopper on top of makeup is always an option. As a perpetually oily-skinned person, I can hardly express how awesome a product like PC Shine Stopper is. It allows me to be very sparing with my makeup, which used to be my primary method of absorbing oil. Along with a good skin care regimen, I can go "au naturel" without worrying about getting shiny and greasy throughout the day.
