Hands down my fave!
from Beaverton, Or
About Me Beauty Expert
Comments about Shine Stopper - 1 oz:
I have a drawer full of primers and a few that I do like. However this is my go to everyday primer for sure! After I apply all my skincare and sunscreen I find that my skin feels a bit too dewy for my liking and sometimes other primers I have used help with reducing that but then when my foundation goes on it looks horrible! This product however mattifies my skin instantly which I love and creates the perfect canvas for my foundation ( I use many different ones) with no application issues. I do prefer a matte finish for my skin and that is what this does.

Among the best I've tried
from Los Angles, CA
About Me Minimalist
I was a dedicated OC8 user, and I must say, I was skeptical when I first tried Paula's Choice Shine Stopper. While I applaud PC for offering sample sachets, I have found that the sample packaging doesn't do justice for some products, and Shine Stopper was one of them. I initially found I either had too much or too little from the sample packet, it was way too slow drying and it mattified for only a couple hours. Also, the application instructions say to dab it on, which I found to not work for me. It seems like no surprise that there are many failed tryouts of this product. I really wanted an alternative to OC8 which is sometimes hard to find with varying (expensive) prices, so I ordered a tube of Shine Stopper despite my rocky start with it.Once I had a tube and altered my application method, things really fell into place with this product. The tube has a narrow nozzle-like tip that helps with controlled dispensing, so I can get just the amount I need. I replaced the recommended dabbing application with more of a smoothing approach, similar to what OC8 instructs for their product. The trick to having long lasting mattifying with this product is to NOT rub it in and to work in sections. Spread a thin layer with sweeping or circular motions over the oily areas only--for me, that is mainly nose, inner cheeks and forehead. It will be rather wet and have a white cast at first, but it dries relatively quickly and with no color if the layer is not too thick. Usually by the time I'm done brushing and flossing my teeth, it will be set. If I messed up and put a little too much in one area, I can correct it with dampened fingers, which will reconstitute the product just enough to work it.Performance is excellent. I get more than 8 hours of mattification on my forehead. My nose is less lucky, but that is because I have allergies and nose blowing wears the product off. It can be reapplied during the day, and is rather good at restoring a matte finish to freshly blotted skin. For mid-day application, I don't get as much mattifying longevity as when it is applied to clean skin. Having said that, even a mid-day reapplication is rather good at absorbing oil, and beats out powder touch ups for my skin.I haven't had much experience layering this product under or over makeup. When using cream under eye concealer, I must be careful not to abrade any of the areas that have the mattifier on (such as my inner cheeks near the under eyes), or it will look patchy. Using pressed powder foundations over the dried product has been successful, especially if applied with a dry round cosmetic sponge in a rolling/pressing motion. I do not think this product would work as well under liquid foundation or using damp beauty sponges because the water would dissolve the product. Using Shine Stopper on top of makeup is always an option. As a perpetually oily-skinned person, I can hardly express how awesome a product like PC Shine Stopper is. It allows me to be very sparing with my makeup, which used to be my primary method of absorbing oil. Along with a good skin care regimen, I can go "au naturel" without worrying about getting shiny and greasy throughout the day.

About Me Beauty Conscious
It is about the same as all primers out there, so if you're super oily & looking for the "PRIMER that will keep you from blotting papers within a few hrs", you'll be very disappointed. If you have combo/skin w/no breakouts, you should find this primer to work well for the price. Would have returned, but PC does not offer free shipping on returns:(

Best I've ever found!
Okay, I'm the woman who applies her makeup & about an hour later, am shining & glowing like a disco ball. And not in a pretty way. I have dropped some serious cash over the years on so-called mattifiers, some very highly recommended by make-up artists & top beauty magazines. The results have all been minimal to non-existent. So, it was with great skepticism that I purchased this. Well, color me stunned. I know some claim it is hard to use, but I've had zero problems. I pat in on over foundation-I alternate between powder, liquid or Paula's Barely There. I work ten hour days & am surprisingly shocked to find myself looking fresh & clean at the end. Please do not reformulate or discontinue.

I am a licensed cosmetologist and makeup artist and I am thoroughly impressed by this product! I am a retin a user and use the Stila tinted moisturizer with spf for daily use on my skin because it is the only mineral sunscreen with a slight tint that does not irritate my skin and actually matches my porcelain complexion. That being said, everyone who has tried a mineral sunscreen knows that there is one con to using one... shine! I have combination skin that is sensitive but I tend to get shiny in the t zone area. I have found that the best way to use this is let my tinted moisturizer dry down a little bit, apply this with a dabbing motion over my shiny areas, and then top with a LIGHT layer of powder. I have tried applying it on top of powder and felt that the application was not as good, so I would recommend to a new user to apply it over your cream or emollient products before powder if you use one. I just got this in the mail this week and I am happy to say that I will be a customer for life! For once, I am not blotting my nose and forehead every three hours... I only used my blotting papers once yesterday and it was 9 hours after my makeup application. I'm sold! I cannot wait to use this on my bridal clients!

I have really dry and sensitive skin except my forehead, which is really oily and shiny. I used it once and it works, my forehead has no shine and my skin is silky and dry. I will see how long it lasts....

Amazing Product with a Learning Curve
from Scottsdale, AZ
I've noticed that this product tends to inspire strong feelings: you either love it or hate it. After using this for two years, I think I understand both camps,, so hopefully this review will help you decide whether Shine Stopper is right for you. The Good: when applied properly (more on that in a minute), this product controls shine, blurs pores and fine lines, leaves your skin silky soft and smooth, and gets rid of any sticky/tacky feeling your makeup might have (seriously: the primary I resisted wearing a daily sunscreen was because I hated that oil slick feeling I got, even from sunscreens with "matte" finishes. This gets rids of it). Expect to be pleasantly surprised when you look in the mirror and your makeup still looks smooth and fresh--no small feat for summer in Arizona! You might find yourself stroking your face and marveling at how smooth it feels. The Bad: application is anything but fool proof. Basically, this product tends to ball up or cause your makeup to smear if you rub it in too much, but here are a few mitigating tricks I've discovered along the way. First, make sure that your makeup is completely dry before you apply this. I put on tinted moisturizer, undereye concealer and try to wait five minutes before putting this on (I use the time to do eyeshadow or something). Make sure all your liquid products are really, really dry. Kind of a pain if you're trying to get out the door, but there you have it. Second, the more layers of liquid products you have (foundation, concealer, highlighter), the more likely you are to have things ball up. If I'm in a hurry and can't let things dry properly, I just do sunscreen and this, rather than risk balling up (yes, I think this is more important than concealer!). Third, while I have no problem layering powder blush/highlighter/bronzer over this, I have very mixed results with layering any cream/liquid products. I recommend doing anything remotely "wet" before putting this on. Fourth, less is more. Start with a tiny pea-sized amount, rub it between your fingers, and see how far that gets you. You can always add more, but if you start with too much you're more likely to (you guessed it) have things ball up. Finally, THOU SHALT NOT RUB. Really. Just pat it on, and try not to go over the same spot more than a few times. Overall: Yes, it's a finicky product with a bit of a learning curve, but as I said, I've been using it for two years. You'll love how it makes your pores and fine lines disappear, it gets rid of that dreaded oil slick feeling, and it lasts all day long (at least for someone with moderately oily skin). Despite its quirks, this is one of my can't-live-without-it products.
Works great with my oily skin!
I apply this on my face after moisturizing and it does a fantastic job of keeping the oils away. I have oily skin and live in a humid environment so oil control is essential. I've tried other products with little to no success. I love, love, love this product!
no results on oily skin
I tried the samples of this one, for 3 days, really wanted to love it because of my oily skin. Used under and without makeup, my face would still produce oils and definitely shine all day, tried applying less and still the same.

As a nurse working long hours - I need something that works for extended periods of time - and I hardly have time to eat a meal during my shift, let alone fix my makeup ... After getting home 12 hours after applying my makeup I was pleasantly surprised to see I had no oil buildup on my face which is a miracle considering I'm usually horrified when I look at my makeup after working all day/night ... Paula did it again ! Another amazing product.
