Great for irritated or healing skin

Comments about SKIN RECOVERY Antioxidant Serum with Retinol - 1 oz:
I have used all of PC's serums, and still do. I find my combo skin in a constant state of flux due to my age: some days dry, others oily (summers in Ohio are usually hot and humid), other days irritated, especially if someone (who, me?) load every exfoliant on his skin for a planned half hour 'at home peel', and fell asleep for three hours. Not a pleasant experience! In the latter case I used to go the Clinical Redness Relief to gently blot the super red areas, and alternate between steroid cream and this serum, as it instantly cooled and soothed my lava looking face.In fact, just 24 hours of that routine and my face looked normal (though it felt very tender, and I avoided all retinols and exfolianst for a few days more). For those of you with normal to oily skin, this is a perfect eye treatment. I've applied this first, waited for it to set, then applied whatever eye cream (Barrier Repair, Clinical Ultrarich, or Skin Recovery mask or night cream, or, of course, the newer Resist eye cream). In the morning, even with only two hours sleep, my eyes look rested, tightened, and far less wrinkled than before I started this routine. It's also a great base for mixing with the Boosters, as its thickness helps the more water light products stay put. It's also great to use on the lips prior to adding the lip balm.If you do have trouble with blackheads, acne, etc., I'd probably not use this on the rest of my face as Paula has some excellent serums just for those skin types. However, if you are sometimes an idiot like me and like to experiment with potentially irritating items, or of if you have normal to dry skin, or super dry, definitely give this a try.If you are not sure, give the customer service team a call or email; they are MORE than helpful! They can guide you to the correct products and provide advice to help with your issues. They are terrific.

About Me Beauty Conscious
I am a regular user of PC products and I love them so I am always willing to try something new. I ordered this serum as a replacement to the Resist serum which was out of stock. Sadly, this product did not work well for me - caused extreme dryness and irritation over the course of use. I won't be using this product in the future and I am back to using my resist serum.

Love this product, but...
I have gone through 4 tubes of this stuff, but with sadness I realized that my skin was peeling because of the Retinol in the product. This is so hydrating and is packed with great anti-aging ingredients. Other than the peeling it has made my skin so much better. I just can't use it with the Retinol. Please, please, please make this serum in a non-Retinol option. The Resist Super Antioxidant isn't hydrating enough for my super dry skin. I love this product, but just can't handle the Retinol. Please, please consider a non-Retinol option. Thanks!
5 Year User, Fantastic Product
from Redwood City, CA
I've been using this product religiously for 5 years. I have really bad sun damage from my childhood and having extremely fair skin, rosacea and sensitive skin, but I have good skincare habits, ie. washing my face regularly, sunscreen every day, good diet, not too much alcohol consumption. I believe following Paula's advice and using her products is 50% of the reason my skin looks younger than my age. This product is very gentle but effective. I can't tolerate any retinol product stronger than this. I've tried the Clinical strength and Rx, along with Roc and some other brands over the last 5-8 years, but have been with this one the longest. Great formula, easy to apply and wonderful packaging.

I really love that Paula's Choice gives you the option to purchase samples. I have very sensitive combination skin (very dry and oily t zone) so I ordered samples of the skin recovery toner, serum and moisturizer. After only two uses, the serum caused a huge breakout. My skin had these tiny little red bumps so I immediatly stopped use and it took a week for it to go away. It wasnt an acne type of break out but a irratation type of break out.

A great serum, good for undereye area

I use this serum after a strong exfoliant treatment (e.g. the morning after a 10% AHA treatment). It's a top-notch serum. It absorbs quickly and easily into the skin, leaving no oily residue (I can apply makeup right on top). I can't say I've noticed a reduction in fine lines or anything in over a year's worth of use several times per week, and I don't have sun spots so I can't offer any reviews there, but it is moisturizing. I love to use it under my eyes, and since I've started concentrating a highly-moisturizing product there I've noticed my concealer doesn't get "weird" because the skin under it isn't dry anymore. I like the tube, which allows me to dispense just the right amount of product. I really hope Paula's Choice doesn't change all the lovely tubes to fancy-pants serum bottles that break, feel cheap, and also cause product waste.I highly recommend this is if you have dry skin or dry patches, or maybe for anyone as a soothing, lightweight treatment following intense exfoliation. That said, this product is a bit pricey so I am going to try the Dollar Shave Club serum to see if I can replace it.

Not very moisturizing
This was the first serum I purchased from PC. I'm in my mid-twenties and have fairly dry skin. This serum did not help at all to moisturize my skin. I was also a tad wary of using this serum in the daytime, as I use PC's Clinical 1% Retinol Treatment at night (I have sensitive skin, so I like to use it every second day). If you've never used a retinol product, this may be a good starter serum for those who don't need an overly moisturizing effect. I much prefer using the Resist Super Antioxidant Serum - very moisturizing (esp. when coupled with a moisturizer) and easy to use with the 1% Retinol Treatment.

broke me out

this serum broke me out, and made my skin flake and caused red bumps all over, including one huge pimple that was deep and still hasn't gone away.

This product is orange in color and thick in consistency. Originally I thought the orange color was due to product separation, which is not the case. This serum doesn't take long to soak in but does leave an ever so slightly tacky feel on the skin, which isn't a problem because I always follow up with a moisturizer and that tacky feel is gone afterwards. There isn't much of a smell at all, which is really nice for those of us with asthma that are extra sensitive to odors. I think this product is worth having and is much better than any drug store serum I have tried before.

My skin loves Skin Recovery Antioxidant Serum With Retinol
from Western Oregon
. Friends have commented on the marked improvement in my skin since I began using Paula's Choice products a couple of years ago. My sensitive, dry, combo skin particularly loves the serums, which melt on, feel silky and reduce the dreaded "dry flakies." My skin is easily irritated, and I seem to have the best results by alternating this Retinol serum with the Resist non-Retinol formula. Both melt into my skin and reduce the dull-flakies.
