I control the shade and depth of tan!
    • I love this stuff. I am very fair and have problems with my "tan" looking obvious. This is a gentle and gradual way to tan. My husband can't tell I've used it unless I decide to go dark. It's my perfect solution.

    Very disappointed
    • So disappointing. I LOVED the gel version. I got so many compliments while using it. It lasted several days at a time. I had to use the entire container of this concentrated version in order to get the same effect and it still faded within a day! Please bring back the old gel formula!!

    My Favourite Summer Product :)
    • I'm glad I waited to review this. I have dry skin. At first I was mixing it with the wrong products and it made my skin feel dry. Then I learned to mix it with my most moisturizing product and now my skin feels normal again. I love that it makes my face match my body. :) I rarely notice a smell. When I do, it's so faint and does not give me a migraine. And it does not bother me when I do have a migraine either. I use it morning or night. It has become my favourite summer product. LOVE

    Aroma is subtle, but detectable
    • I'm a 10+ year user of PC products. My good skin is a testament to PC. I have never criticized a product. However, the claim of "no self-tanner smell" is untrue for me. The smell exists. Perhaps it is chemistry that can't yet be overcome. Perhaps my sense of smell is more sensitive than most. This is an ingenious product that works well, however, the bit of DHA smell nauseates me & triggers headaches as do other self-tanners I've tried, so I can't finish the container, despite liking the result.

    Best so far
    • Finally, a self-tanner that gives me a light gold tone (I am very fair). Paula's older self-tanner left me a bit orange, especially if I tried to build it up over a few days. This does not. I use it only on my face---add 2 drops to a dollop of Hydralight in the late afternoon when I get back from work or the gym, let it sit until I go to bed and do a full skin routine, and by then I have a golden glow. Subtle but definitely enough to change my skin tone.

    The good, bad and itchy!
    • I wanted to love this self tanner as I've always had problems tanning my legs. Past Self tanners darkened age spots and dots all over my legs. This product worked perfectly on my face and legs. No streaking or dotting, good color to go without stockings. All good, right? The bad and itchy part is that my legs went mad with itch. I drew blood from scratching my legs. Tried Benadryl, no help. Finally, Pink Calamine lotion helped. It's a rare reaction, but it happens. I'm sad about it.

Not practical for arms and legs
    • I bought this product because the foam was unavailable. I had to use three or four pumps per leg for the color to be noticeable. It's fine to add to facial products but not really practical for larger areas as it is expensive and would be used up quickly. Thankfully the foam is now available again and I ordered two bottles.

    Dissapointing
    • The color this product gives is very weak. It's yellowish and i need about 7 pumps for a tan that is kind of worthwhile. The color should definitely be made warmer. if i need to add 7 pumps for a noticeable tan the product runs out pretty fast. Having said that it's a great concept because its great for people with acne since u can use ur fav moisturizer as a vehicle. My tip to paula's choice would be to definitely keep this product, but spend some time improving the color and potency.

    Believable tan.
    • I bought this a couple of months ago, specifically for my face, which is a couple of shades lighter than the rest of my body (I suppose due to diligent sunscreen use?). It took me a while to figure out to use it. For me, it works best to add a couple of pumps to Resist Wrinkle Defense SPF 30. The color is subtle and realistic. It doesn't last long at all, which is not the fault of the product but daily use of BHA. Overall, easy to use and produces good results.

    Wonderful!
    • I was on my way to my local department store to purchase a Clinique self-tanning product when I spied this item in an email from Paula. I am SO glad that I purchased the SUN 365. It is exactly what I was looking for at a much cheaper price. The first morning I used two drops in my moisturizer/sunscreen but that made my face too dark. Now I just use one drop each morning and the results are so natural and great-looking. I would recommend this self-tanner to anyone. It is a great product.

    • I can never get this to look even. I get the principle and it's a good idea to have it be in a concentrate but it's hard to know where you're applying and how much of it. There's no guide color so you literally have to wake up in the morning and just see what the results are.. Most of the time you look like you woke up washed up on an island

    Wanted to love this
    • I purchased this specifically for my face as I wanted to have some color for the summer. The product did deliver a wonderful sun-kissed look but a day or so after using it I began to break out and then my face started to get dry patches and flake. I mixed it with my PC moisturizer that I've been using for quite some time with no problems so it must be the self-tanner. I've been using PC for years, all my skin care is PC and I have rarely experienced any problems. This is the rare exception.

    First and best!
    • I have quite fair skin and got this for my legs. I've been cautious--not too much--and the color isn't dark, but is there. NO smell...I even used it on my neck, which has always been a bit lighter than my face, so unless I wore makeup on my neck (ick), always a mismatch! Now they are the same color! BTW, my skin is very sensitive, so while I'd be the last person to say you CAN'T have a reaction to it, I did not. Another winner from Paula!

    • This is the *best* self-tanner I have used -- and I've used a lot of them. No streaks, easy to use, I can use my moisturizer (I have dry skin) and tan at the same time. I hope PC keeps this in their product line forever! The one thing I'd like to suggest is this: Some way of being able to tell how much concentrate is in the bottle. I have no idea when I'm getting low on it, and I don't want to run out!

    Not a winner
    • This is the only Paula's Choice product I haven't had success with. If you use too little, you don't tan at all. If you use too much, you turn oompa loompa orange. It's hard to find a happy medium. The only plus is that it doesn't smell like sunless tanner at all. When I mixed it with my everyday facial moisturizer, it broke me out. My facial moisturizer doesn't ever break me out, so it had to be this. I love Paula's products, but not this one.

Thanks for your review! We're sorry this product didn't work well for you, and encourage you to contact us about a refund or exchange. Regarding the breakout you experienced, it's possible your skin is sensitive to one or more of the ingredients in this self-tanner, or perhaps the breakouts were coincidental.

Perfect product for the very Fair
    • I am 34 and I have very Fair skin that burns in the summer. I used a sensitive skin body lotion, two pumps, and a single drop of tanner. I kept the same ratio every time I needed more lotion. I thought it wouldn't be enough, but it gives a 'barely there' tan when it dries. I can add another layer to make it darker but it's great as is. The colour is realistic - and NO smell. After it dried I added waterproof sunscreen which is oily and there were no streaks. Perfect product.

    • Best self-tanner ever! I love that I can use it with whatever moisturizer I feel like wearing that day. There is zero fragrance. I am VERY pale, and have never had any streaking, which is amazing. This product is so easy to use, and the result is just the right amount of natural color. Love it, and will absolutely repurchase!

    Love this product!
    • I have really enjoyed using this self tanning concentrate! Just add a few pumps to your favorite body lotion or face moisturizer. I love the hint of color I get with this & no streaking either! And it doesn't have that distinct self tanner smell. I have not found a self tanner that I love so this is perfect for me. Just apply with lotions that already work for me and end up with a nice glow! So easy to use!

    Not Much Difference
    • After reading all the positive comments, I wanted to try this. My first reaction was, "Wow, this container is really small!" I've mixed it with my moisturizer, and applied it to clean, dry skin as directed. Honestly, I don't see much difference. Granted, it's summer, and I have an olive complexion, but I was hoping it might even out my strap lines, and make the tops of my legs match the bottoms. No luck. I find "Tan towel"works much better. Probably more noticeable on fair skin.

    • I am unimpressed with this product. It makes my skin feel nice but I am not seeing much effect from it. I am fair skinned and have not been overly generous when mixing with lotion, but overall I just don't see much happening. I wish the directions gave more specific information on mixing it. Like a 1;1 ratio or something to guide us more. Overall, I would skip this in the future.

    • I love the Sun 365 Self Tanning Foam and thought this would be a good way to keep my "tan" while on vacation. While it is airplane friendly, the pros stop there. Despite lots of experimenting with the ratio of tanning concentrate to moisturizer, I was not able to get this product to "tan" my fair skin.

Thanks for your review! We're sorry this didn't work for you and wish we had an explanation as to why it didn't. It's a very concentrated formula (hence its size) that should work brilliantly for fair skin. It's possible you may have "diluted" it too much via your facial or body moisturizer, but in any event, please contact us for a full refund.

    Outstanding
    • Like other reviewers I love this--a brilliant (as Paula likes to say on her podcast) product. No tanner smell, easy to adjust for your desired shade, saves time, and doesn't streak! I'm another blue eyed red head that is quite pale so having a nice glow on the décolletage, legs and face is a real treat. I use it with the BHA body cream on the décolletage, the AHA on the legs and the BHA 1% lotion on the face-- all products I would use anyway. 3 drops for each body area and 1 or 2 for face.

Key Ingredients: erythrulose, troxerutin, dihydroxyacetone

Product Ingredients:

Water, Dihydroxyacetone (self-tanning agent), Troxerutin (antioxidant flavonoid/skin-conditioning agent), Methylpropanediol (penetration enhancer) Dimethyl Isosorbide (solvent), Dimethicone (silicone slip agent), Erythrulose (self-tanning agent), PPG-2 Isoceteth-20 Acetate (emulsifier), Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polyacrylate-13 (film-forming agents), Polysorbate 20 (emulsifier), Citric Acid (pH adjuster), Xanthan Gum, Carbomer (thickeners), Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate (preservatives), Polyisobutene (thickener), Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide (stabilizers), Ethylhexylglycerin (skin-conditioning agent), Phenoxyethanol (preservative).

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Start with clean, dry skin.
  2. Dispense moisturizer into the palm of your hand, and then add 2-3 pumps of the concentrate for a medium tan result.
  3. Apply the mixture evenly and smoothly, one area at a time.
  4. Wash hands thoroughly to avoid tan palms and cuticles.
  5. Wait 10-15 minutes for the skin to completely dry before dressing.
  6. Color should develop within 1–3 hours and may continue to deepen for a few hours after that. If the desired level of darkness is not obtained after one application, simply reapply and your "tan" will deepen. Once you are satisfied with the results, reapply self-tanner every few days to maintain depth of color.
  7. Full results are visible in 24-48 hours.

TIPS AND TROUBLESHOOTING:

  • Use a nail brush to prevent getting color under your fingernails and toenails, or, alternately, apply this product wearing disposable plastic gloves.
  • A tan from a self-tanner does not provide any sun protection! It is essential to continue using sunscreen while using self-tanner.
  • The active ingredient in SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate is dihydroxyacetone. This ingredient reacts with the amino acids in the top (dead) layers of skin (keratinized skin) to turn the skin a golden-brown color. Your color will be darker or lighter depending on how much of the Concentrate you mix with your facial or body moisturizer.
  • If you opt to apply self-tanner to the tops of your hands, it’s a good idea to lightly go over your cuticles and any rough edges around fingers and toes with a Q-Tip dampened with nail polish remover. This step ensures self-tanner won’t set and unnaturally darken those areas.

How long does the color last?

That depends on how well it "takes" on your skin. Results with the same self-tanner can vary from person to person because of an individual’s chemistry or skincare routine. On some people the color may last a week or more, while others find it lasts a couple of days. However, because SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate contains a higher concentration of self-tanning ingredient dihydroxyacetone, most will find their color lasts one to three days longer than when they use standard self-tanners.

Results will not last as long if you use an AHA or BHA exfoliant on your face or body, use a facial or body scrub, or a loofah in the shower. All of these exfoliants remove some of your “tan” along with dull, dead skin cells but one reapplication of SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate refreshes your faux tan.

How does using an AHA or BHA exfoliant affect the results I get from using SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate?

First, we do not advise mixing this Concentrate with any of our AHA or BHA exfoliants. Second, there are pros and cons to combining any exfoliant (AHA or BHA exfoliant or topical scrub) with a self-tanner. This concentrated formula contains dihydroxyacetone (a derivative of sugar that turns skin cells a shade of brown), which affects only the uppermost layers of skin. Because exfoliants affect these same layers, they work to slough off the skin cells affected by the self-tanner, thus reducing how long your "tan" lasts. The positive is that when the skin is smoother (the benefit of using a well-formulated exfoliant) you get much more even-toned results from the self-tanner. To keep the level of color you want and benefit from daily use of an exfoliant, simply apply the self-tanner more often.

Why is the size so small compared to most other self-tanning products?

The size of this product is due to the concentrated nature of the formula and how it is meant to be used. It takes only a few drops to get a natural-looking tan. Plus, SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate allows you to customize the level of color. It also allows you to turn the facial or body moisturizer (even those with SPF) you’re already using into a self-tanner!

Whereas a regular self-tanner requires quite a bit to achieve head-to-toe results, it only takes a couple pumps (which is a very small amount) of SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate to get equivalent results.

Can I mix SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate with my facial moisturizer with SPF? What about regular sunscreen?

Although normally we advise not to mix other products (like Resist C15 Super Booster) with facial or body sunscreens, because only a few drops of SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate are needed, the mixing shouldn’t affect the ability of your sunscreen to provide broad-spectrum protection. If you like, once the mix of Self-Tanning Concentrate and your sunscreen has set, you may apply more sunscreen or a foundation and/or pressed powder with sunscreen to provide another layer of anti-aging protection. If you opt to mix this self-tanner with your daily SPF product, use no more than two pumps of Sun 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate. More than that could dilute the amount of sun protection you're getting, in which case you should apply the self-tanner first, allow it to absorb, then follow with your facial or body sunscreen.

Will SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate work to make vitiligo look more even?

Quite possibly, yes! There is some research showing that applying self-tanning products with a higher concentration (above 6%; this Self-Tanning Concentrate contains 20%) of the self-tanning ingredient dihydroxyacetone can help mask the loss of pigment and patchy look of vitiligo. SUN 365 Self-Tanning Concentrate may be applied full-strength to these areas, but we advise testing it on a smaller area first to be sure you like the color that results.
