More burning and stinging
from Vancouver Island, BC
About Me Beauty Conscious
Comments about SKIN BALANCING Ultra-Sheer Daily SPF 30 - 2 oz:
I'm grateful this was just a sample, since I had a similar reaction to what CH & Daisy describe. As lightweight as this product is, I can barely stand it on my skin for more than a few minutes. It caused widespread burning & stinging, especially around my eyes. I waited for a couple minutes to see if it would abate, without luck, then had to wash off the moisturizer and flush my skin with cool water a few times to lessen the burning sensation. The lower portion of my cheeks was the only place not irritated. That area does feel soft, but not particularly moisturized.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This is the best sunscreen I have ever purchased. I use it everywhere as well as my face. Non greasy and wears perfectly under foundation. I also use it under my eyes without irritation.

Stinging and drying
from Chicago, IL
About Me Minimalist
Add me to the list of people whose skin did not react well to this product. I typically do not have sensitive skin, and this sunscreen stung on application, and when the stinging wore off, my skin felt tight and extremely dry -- which is unusual for me, as I have oily/combination skin. Disappointed and confused.

Irritated my skin
from Toronto, ON
My skin is oily in the summer and also somewhat sensitive. I use (and love) the cleanser and nighttime moisturizer from the Skin Balancing line so thought I would give the daytime SPF a try. Unfortunately it did not agree with me as it stung upon contact (though I didn't notice any increased redness which is interesting). I left it on for about 5 minutes to see if it was just an initial reaction, however I ended up having to wash it off, after which my face continued to sting for a good 10 minutes. I gave the product two stars as I did like how my skin felt to the touch - very matte and smooth but not tight. Will stick with the Hydralight (now Calm for oily skin) and Resist Youth-Extending SPFs, both of which are great.

Not the right moisturizer for me!
from Boston, MA
Unfortunately I can't speak to the effectiveness of this product because I haven't been able to leave it on my skin for more than a minute. The second I apply it, it burns! I'm not talking a little tingling or stinging. It feels like my face is on fire. My skin usually isn't sensitive at all. I've tried to use this product a few times over the last month, thinking maybe I had just exfoliated too much before using it. I even stopped using BHA for a week. Nope! Same reaction every time. Love Paula's products, this one just isn't for me.

I love this lotion and use it as my day lotion. It absorbs quickly and leaves skin feeling smooth. There is no greasy residue.

Found the balance!
from San Francisco, CA
About Me Budget Buyer
Fair-skinned redhead here. Have used daily sunscreen for many years (20+). I've tried most of Paula's sunscreens as well as over the counter ones. This one has arrived at number 1!! It goes on quickly and dries to a matte finish. It never gets super shiny on me even though I have oily skin. I do reapply in the afternoon if I'm outdoors a lot. For serious beach time I opt for a higher SPF number. It seems "liquidy" when if first goes on and I have created a little technique: pour quarter size amount in my palm, rub hands together, then with open palms I pat forehead, cheeks, nose, and neck/chest. I then have about 30 seconds to really rub it in and cover all the areas. After 30 seconds it gets a little sticky as it dries but in less than a minute it is smooth and matte. I really like the finish and have actually used it as a base before going out at night. I highly recommend you try it! It may be the balance you are looking for!

Wanted to love it.

About Me Brand Buyer
I really wanted to like it. Tried it so many times...almost like I could not believe it. Every time same thing happened. It burns. Right now writing review wondering why I did it again. Just not for me I guess. Never ever had this issue with sunscreen ever so I'm not sure what is is. It happens with a few of the paula products so it must be something they like to use that doesn't agree with my skin.
Stings a bit and makes my oily skin more oily
I have used this product daily (full size tube) for my oily, acne prone skin, but finds that it stings my skin slightly when I put it on, and seems to increase my oil production (likely due to irritation).
from Calgary, AB
I wanted to like this product. Easy to apply, no white cast, good SPF and a light texture. However, it caused quite a bit of eye burning. After adjusting and being more careful with application I still found that my cheeks were stinging. I'm looking forwarding to sampling some other moisturizers to see if I can find one slightly more moisturizing and that doesn't leave me with the burning sensation.
