way too strong for my poor skin

Comments about CLEAR Extra Strength Acne Treatment with 5% Benzoyl Peroxide - 2.25 oz:
Way too strong, I bought this a while ago and after getting a break out tried it again, no dice again it does help with the pimple(s) but then the dry skin and flaking are just as bad! and then it irritates the surrounding skin... hard pass. If you have even remotely sensitve skin don't try this. And I did ease into it as suggested.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Moderately effective but stings
from Baltimore, MD
About Me Beauty Conscious
I first purchased this product as part of the Clear set, but now I only buy the salicylic acid exfoliant because this wasn't worth the skin irritation. It left my skin dry and stinging, even the regular strength version. Also, be warned: THIS PRODUCT WILL BLEACH YOUR CLOTHES AND TOWELS. Wash your hands after using and be careful not to let it drip on your shirt!

This product is the only thing that cleared my breakouts. I was about to give up on topical treatments and try accutane and then a friend reffered me to paulas choice!!! I think it took about a week and a half for my skin to clear up almost completely.I had consistent bumps on my forehead and I would hormonal breakouts on my chin. Now for the first time in years I have clear skin :-) Thank you Paula~!!!!

Made my pimples worse and caused deep acne pimples!
from Philadelphia suburbs
First of all, I rarely right reviews unless I feel really strongly on a product (good or bad). Every time I have tried this product, this being the 3rd and last, it makes me break out even more and causes deep, cystic like acne pimples. The regular strength version never did this to me. I am 40 years old and never had a problem with cystic acne in my life! So, I DO NOT recommend this product. It broke me out more and did not clear up my face at all, only made a couple pimples turn in to 6 pimples AND the deep kind!! Perhaps there is an ingredient in it that causes me to break out, I simply do not know. I will also add, this is the only new product I added to my skincare routine. The Regular strength always worked fine for me.
Bought for son, can see improvement right away.
from Las Vegas, NV
I bought this for my son who is 12 and has similar skin to mine. Good tone and just a bit of acne but his pores are beginning to clog a little which is giving him some small red pimples & with whiteheads and he is becoming prone to blackheads. I'm trying to show him ow to take care of his skin so he did a warm cloth to open the pores after he washed is face in the shower. Then we applied this product and after the first use his skin looks much less "congested" clear and glowing and the appearance of blackheads is less.
I can use this one

This is the first 5% benzoyl peroxide product that I can use without irritation.

Harsher than I remember
i don't remember it being so harsh on my skin in the past. I've used PC for about 10 years. I love the Clear line, and while it does not eliminate all my acne, it keeps me fairly clear. This treatment lotion worked great in the past. Now my skin get red, irritated and dry, and it bleaches all of my towels. I don't remember this happening in past. Did the formula change?
The only thing that helped with my acne
I love this stuff! I wouldn't recommend using BHA with this cause I don't really feel a need for this myself and my skin tends to be irritated if I use both. I find benzoyl peroxide way more effective tho.
A month in and....no major breakouts!!
By Jay K. Rene
from Staten Island, NY
After running out of the generic 5% benzoyl peroxide gel my dermatologist prescribed me, I was happy to find this product at the same strength and budget friendly price. Upon using the product for the first time (I use it twice a day, morning and night), I've noticed that my breakouts have been less and less frequent, and when I do get a pimple here or there, it dries up with 1 to 2 days. It keeps my pores relatively smaller and my skin more even and less oily throughout the day (which I'm super happy with!!) The only down side to the product for me is that I do notice the liquidy nature and thinness of the formula which translates to it feeling slightly greasy when I initially put it on. It also takes a while for the formula to absorb into my skin, but once it dries after a couple minutes, my skin feels fresh for the rest of day! I only have to use a pea size amount at a time so I'm sure I'll have another 2 month until I have to re order.

Dry, burning, more breakouts!
I had high hopes for this product as I used a drugstore product with similar active ingredients that worked quite well when I was younger. Maybe it's the change in my skin with age, but this product simply does not work for me. Not only does it not work, it leaves my skin extremely flaky (even with proper moisturizing), burns, and seems to cause MORE breakouts. I will not be using this one again.
