Bad reaction - back to Hydralight

3

I have combination skin that is sensitive and finicky - simultaneously prone to clogged pores and dehydration. I rotate CLEAR 2% BHA liquid with occasional use of 8% AHA Gel, but despite regular exfoliation this moisturizer never really settles into my skin or seems to absorb: skin feels temporarily hydrated on the surface but remains dehydrated. Worse though is that it causes hard red bumps on my cheeks, which is a part of my face I never tend to break out. Hydralight is infinitely more soothing and truly hydrating, and does not contain dimethicone - an ingredient I've recognized recently I need to avoid, since it always causes a reactivity breakout for me. Every time I avoid this one my skin seems to clear up - odd, as this is marketed as good for breakout-prone, sensitive skin. As long as PC continues to offer a couple of dimethicone-free moisturizers like Hydralight, I won't complain!

Caused Redness

I have acne, but don't necessarily have sensitive skin. I applied this and liked it and was on board with it. Then I looked in the mirror less than 15 minutes later and my face was tomato red!

Life changing

Every time I read reviews I go straight towards the 4 star. This is because I felt nothing can be prefect, everything has some flaws, and that the 4 stars were overall more honest. That was until I tried this product! I've never rated anything utterly prefect before. I've always been self-conscious about my skin and that it was red. However, in the short time I've used this, IT HAS FOREVER CHANGED MY SKIN. It feels and looks amazing. I have no redness now. I could not be more pleased with a skin care product. It's my holy grail for sure!

I can only use it at night

I love using this at night, but not during the day as it causes pilling of my sunscreen when I put it on top of the moisturizer.

So great under makeup

I don't understand the negative reviews, but everyone's skin is different. I love the way this works under my foundation, I don't even need a primer. My skin feels and looks great when I use it. Thanks for this formulation.

Beautiful new product; stop complaining about Hydralight.

A couple years ago, when I first heard about PC, I sampled the Hydralight line, including the evening moisturizer. I recall it being basic, but quite decent for it's purpose. I wasn't blown away, but I liked it and totally understood why people with sensitive skin would enjoy it. Then a few months ago I sampled the Calm oily/combo line. I couldn't believe how fantastic this moisturizer was! The other components are really nice too (I quite like the serum), but this moisturizer is the standout performer of them all! It's really outstanding. A huge improvement, in my opinion, from Hydralight. My skin is fussy. I have mild to moderate acne, very irritated and hormonal (like yours truly). No cysts, but inflammation, white heads, etc. I have mild hyperpigmentation from old acne, as well as true blackheads and sebaceous filaments. My skin is kinda sometimes oily, but with rude little flaky dry patches around my nose and cheeks. The sides/temples of my face are incredibly irritable and are easily burned by skincare products. So to summarize, my skin a joyous pleasure to care for (intense sarcasm). PC has been a godsend. Not everything works for me, but non of it has hurt me, and some of it is truly Holy Grail level amazing. This moisturizer is the latter. It deserves more stars than it currently has. All the bitter Hydralight peeps came here to vent their (understandable) frustrations in hopes of getting their Holy Grail back, and in so doing have done this BEAUTIFUL product a disservice. Get samples, try it, ignore the ranty, it's-not-Hydralight reviews. You may love it as much as I do.

I like it better than Hydralight

5

Unlike most of these reviews, I actually like this better than the Hydralight SPF. I used to use hydralight a lot, even when it was the hand cream with spf - it was gentle, mineral (so doesn't bother my eyes), not greasy, and didn't break me out. This Calm SPF is a step up in my opinion. I find it much silkier and easier to spread, and it is slightly more moisturizing. My combination skin really likes it. It also just looks beautiful -- evens out the skin tone, reduces redness, and is not greasy. It even mattifies a bit. I just stocked up and plan to use this all summer. Maybe my skin isn't as oily as the others, so they prefer the less emollient feel of the Hydralight, but I choose this one.

Excellent for combo skin, very soothing

First: I have never used the hydralight that people are asking for PC to bring back, so I cannot compare. I have been picking up only the samples of these so far. One packet lasts two applications for me. I am sold and will buy the full size with my next purchase. This moisturizer is perfect for my combination skin. It is very soothing and has just the right amount of moisture for me. It is not greasy at all and feels wonderful to put on. If I need a little more moisture on drier nights, I add a pump of PC's new Omega complex with this. Some days, if my skin is breaking out a lot, I like to cut back on the products I use at night to "give my skin a rest." This is perfect for those days: cleanser, toner, maybe a BHA, and finish with this. Everything feels soothed and happy. I'm falling in love with Paula's new Calm (Normal to Oily) line actually. Soothing, gentle, and effective.

WHY???

1

WHY does Paula's Choice keep getting rid of great products, and replacing them with products we don't like??? Pretty soon, I won't be using any PC products at all! This CALM moisturizer is NOTHING like Hydralight, so stop trying to pawn it off on us as a replacement!

I bought this because the Hydralight without SPF was no longer available. If I could get the Hydralight, I'd never bother with this again. I have ultra-sensitive, finicky, combo-oily, rosacea skin that seems to tolerate this ok as long as I'm not in the middle of a flare (my flares tend to be triggered by heat and sun. I live in FL and I can use SPF for the sun, but I can't really avoid the heat, so I'm constantly trying to knock down flares). While it seems to absorb well so I don't feel greasy, I still have trouble getting it set well enough that it doesn't make my makeup pill up and get all weird. I do like that it is lightweight and smooth and there's no greasiness. My skin does feel soft after applying it. But the strong chance I'm going to see increased inflammation/irritation makes me wish I could still get the Hydralight. PLEASE consider bringing it back!
