T-Zone Makeup Tips
Managing combination skin is a delicate balance, and not just with skincare. Trying to achieve a uniform makeup look when you have dry skin on some parts of your face and an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) can seem like an uphill battle. You can achieve harmony, though—here’s how.
Start with a Good Base
Setting your T-zone up for makeup success starts before you even put on the first drop of foundation. Once you’ve finished your skincare routine, prep your T-zone with a mattifying primer that absorbs oil. This will help control oil throughout the day and minimize the appearance of pores, which can be especially prominent in the T-zone.
For foundation, choose a formula that’s best for the majority of your face (if most of your face is dry, choose a moisturizing formula). Apply it everywhere except your T-zone, blending away from the T-zone, not toward it.
Buying two different foundations for your face can be expensive, so a concealer for oily skin can save the day. Choose a matte-finish, medium-coverage concealer that’s as close to the color of your foundation as possible, then apply it to your T-zone, blending it in to the foundation you’ve already applied for a seamless look.
Another option is to select a concealer one shade lighter than your foundation to apply to your T-zone. This creates a highlighting effect without the additional shine that some highlighting products add.
The Finishing Touches
Once you’re finished with your foundation and concealer, set the whole look with a translucent or tinted powder applied with a brush, adding an extra, but still sheer, layer to your T-zone. This provides a final layer of oil absorption to help keep your look shine-free throughout the day. If you have a very oily T-zone, blotting papers are excellent for touch-ups on the go—they keep you from caking up your skin with layer after layer of powder.
With these tips, you can bring your dry and oily areas of skin together for a perfect balance that shows off your beautiful face at its best!
