Clear, Glowing Skin

5

This product, along with the Defense Nightime Moisturizer are the very best Paula's Choice products I have ever used (and i've Used A LOT!) I've been searching for silicone free, fragrance free, products with Azealic acid and Peptides forever. The closest thing I could find are Drunk Elephant products, but those are outrageously expensive and loaded with Marula oil that just breaks me out. The Defense line (not the SPF lotion- that has nasty silicones and while I love Paula, I don't agree with her stance on silicones) is magic! My skin has never been more clear, even toned, and glowing! I've struggled with terribly red, reactive, acne prone skin with giant pores most of my life. Not anymore. These products are genius.

Love this product!!! Doesnt irritate my eyes!

I love the essential daily glow moisturizer! I use it every day - alone or under makeup. It is the only moisturizer with sunscreen I have ever used that doesnt irritate my eyes! I have worked out, went running and this stuff doesnt budge. It's amazing! It's taken me 30+ years to find it & I'm not letting go!

Excellent serum for night - brighter, more even skin

5

I'm a guy and I love this serum. I tried it because it has azelaic acid as an ingredient (to help fight my melasma) but has a lighter, more fluid consistency than the Azelaic Acid Booster, which is the only other product (so far) with this ingredient. Since it's a light fluid, I've found that this serum is more comfortable to have on my skin, which I use in conjunction with a nighttime retinol moisturizer. I mix them both together on my fingertips and apply to my whole face and neck, which I've found works better than layering one on top of the other. They pair very well together and absorb quickly, leaving my skin looking smoother, more even, and brighter the next day. I wish this exact serum could be available without salicylic acid, otherwise I would wear it day and night. My skin is just too sensitive to have it on all the time with an exfoliant in the mix. I definitely recommend this serum to help clear up, recover, and maintain healthy skin. I have combination-to-oily skin and had no problem using this product.

Great Serum, Absorbs well, Doesn't Cause Breakouts

5

I've been using the Defense serum daily for about 3 weeks. My new favorite serum! Texture feels great after application and absorbs quickly. Similar in consistency to the PC resist ultralight serum. Has caused ZERO breakouts! Made my complexion more even and minimized some redness. Makes skin unbelievably soft for rest of day. I can't stop touching my skin now; my husband also noticed how soft my face is and keeps stroking me cheeks, lol. I am very scientific about how I add new products (i.e: introducing one variable at a time and taking detailed notes of results daily), so I'm fairly sure the results are coming from this serum. It's now my only daytime serum. For Reference: 1) My skin type: Oily and (somewhat) sensitive skin, prone to breakouts, very few fine lines or wrinkles, in my early 30s. 2) My morning routine: PC skin balancing cleanser, aloe toner, vitamin C serum, PC Defense serum (this product), and PC skin balancing SPF 30.

I really love the ingredients in this serum! It contains everything my skin needs all in one formulation. I used it for the first time today, and it feels wonderful. Nicely hydrating without being too much. No sticky feel. No greasiness. My face feels super smooth and fresh. I am excited to see the results of daily use!

Soooooo happy there are no silicones in this moisturizer!

5

It might be too soon for a final verdict, but I am loving the Nightly Reconditioning Moisturizer! I'm 62 yrs old and have an oily T-zone and slightly dry, somewhat sun-damaged cheeks and jaw line. My face doesn't like silicones, but loves oils. No silicones in this gem, but some wonderful non-fragrant plant oils and right now, my face is loving this moisturizer. I've had it on now for over 12 hours and have absolutely no oil breakthrough on my nose, which I get with silicone based moisturizers. I did buy the facial cleanser too, but haven't used it. Once I do, I'll review that as well. Thanks for making a silicone free facial moisturizer!

Adding to my previous review

The character limit did not allow me to finish my review. I am adding more. The summary of the first review is that I loved this serum for its texture, the way it leaves my skin hydrated, comfortable and smooth to the touch, and also the way it layers with other products - absolutely no pilling. I very highly recommended it. I also want to leave a note about packaging. First I have to admit that it is very photogenic and Instagram friendly, and it looks very cheerful on my vanity. I know it does not matter, but it was one reason I chose this over the Resist line I've been using regularly. I think Paula's Choice is getting how to package things with appeal. I love the new packaging also in terms of function, the plastic tube comes with a glass dropper at the opening which makes dosing super easy. However, I also think that there were two missteps with the new packaging. First, the ingredients are not printed on the tube. I care about the ingredients, and I think most Paula's Choice customer do. I sometimes consult the ingredients when layering etc, so my preference would be to find them on the tube. Second, and more important is the inclusion of the paper box. I have always loved how Paula's Choice has shown some environmental responsibility when it comes to packaging products and parcels. It looks like you are slowly abandoning these practices. I absolutely do not see why a plastic tube needs a paper box. Please go back to your roots and abolish the unnecessary packaging.

I wish the Defense products were available in my 20s and 30s

5

I normally use PC Resist line, but I couldn't resist ordering the whole defense system. I have been using more or less the same Resist products for years now, and I was craving for a change. I have to admit the pretty red packaging played a role as well. After placing my order I was unsure whether I have been victim to marketing and gimmick. But once the products arrived and I used them, I am very happy to have ordered them, what's more I love the textures. It is too early to tell about long term results, but I am sure there will be no harm. These products do not promise any anti-aging, so at 40+ I plan to continue to use my boosters to add a punch of proven ingredients to my skincare regime. One big plus of the Defense line is that the textures go along with layering much much better than anything I have used from Paula's Choice (almost all my skincare comes from Paula's Choice for almost 20 years now). About this particular serum, it is a clear, water-based serum that sinks in almost immediately and leaves skin comfortably moist, but not sticky or slippery. It is also not silicone based like the Resist, Skin Balancing or Skin Recovery antioxidant serums. My skin simply drank it up. I have used it after the C15 booster or the Resist 2% BHA, and it played along very well. I have continued with the Ceramide moisturizer, Defense moisturizer, and/or sunscreen and absolutely did not experience any pilling or other ill effect. This is definitely the one of loveliest serum textures I have used. Again too early to tell whether my skin will miss the Resist line, but I will definitely switch to Defense as my basic skincare and supplement with the boosters. I badly wish this line were around in my 20s and 30s, it would have been my one stop perfect skincare. I very highly recommended it for that demographic.

No apparent effect after 4 days, sensitizes skin

3

I was looking forward to this product as an upgrade from the old 1% BHA that I used for 10+ years before the formula changed, and as a milder, less smelly version of the very effective PC vitamin C serum. It is neither: my pores were not improved with this product, and my skin was reddened rather than being evened out. Will try a few more days to see, but I'm honestly not sure why anyone would spend $30 on this: a mild gel like moisturizer shouldn't cost so much. I get better results with a cheap drugstore Cerave moisturizer with niacinamide
